This came sooner than I expected and was beautiful! A lot of the reviews are mixed about the ashtray, but mine is perfect and Genesis The Project is very tasteful, goes very well with a cup of coffee.
I bought a box of 20 Genesis robustos a few weeks ago and really enjoy the cigar. I decided to buy the sampler ashtray deal because the cigars are that good and other reviews were positive about the ashtray. The ashtray is pretty cool. I slotted the tray with a quarter round file where the cigar will rest and touched it up with a polyurethane stain, Minwax Honey Oak 370 to be exact. To get the tray out, either remove the drawer or open it halfway and push the tray out the top of the box with your fingers. The tray also has a sheet of glass on the bottom that protects the RB logo. The glass is held in place with moulding. It's very nice, I am happy I bought it.
Fired one of these up as soon as I got it. So far wasn't too impressed with the cigar, but the ashtray was well worth the money. Going to give the cigars time to age a few months in one of my humidors. The first one I fired up just seemed dry and tasteless. I am a full flavored cigar smoker. It's all about preference and what you like mild to full flavor. Cigars International is my favorite website to purchase cigars and I will keep coming back.
Just got the ashtray sampler in. Construction is maybe C+ to B-. Lacquer is pretty recent, wood doesn't match up in several places and is rough under the lacquer in 30% of the tray. Spent 10 minutes rubbing the rough spots with 00 steel wool and it's pretty smooth action on the drawer and ash tray access. Cigars are very soft and cello unsealed. Going to rest them and come back about the stogies. Not bad for the price, but if you are comfortable with woodworking, spend a couple bucks for the wood and do better yourself. I'll be removing the drawer so I can fit my usual 5x50/6x60 smokes and just put it in my stogie go bag.
The stick was thick and juicy as described. Very pleased with the burn and scents. The ashtray on the other hand. The tray was gapped and allowed asshes to fall into the drawer. Also it didn't provide a divet for the finger. So putting it down was a balancing act. My plan is to cut a piece of acrylic snug to fit in the opening, attach a mini puck, and turn it to a mini-dor. Also rout out the divets on the tray so the stick will rest neatly as it should. Understood, it is a project.
Coffee and creamy testure make this cigar one of my favorite dessert smokes. The ashtray is great and looks great on my coffee table. I leave my lights and cigar cutters in the little drawer.
Picked up this sampler back in mid 2013. I was excited to give it a try and smoked one that weekend. Really tight draw had to work on it to smoke. Gave up and let them sit for a while. The ashtray is a great concept but as reported the cigar doesn't sit on the ashtray that well. I used the Dremel and took a little off and it works great now, nice touch with the ashtray keeping all the stuff together. Now 8 months later and I tried another cigar and WOW great smoke, nice even draw, lots of smoke output and plenty of flavor, ash stuck around for about two inches till I tapped it off. Nice dark wrapper with a slight sheen. Earthy flavor with hints of that familiar barnyard we love. I don't know the flavor but I got a slight floral taste that was nice. All in all a great smoke, that I would put at a medium almost full. Give it a try you won't go wrong. Just be patient and let them rest a while.
Getting quite an ashtray collection & my Genesis The Project Ashtray is one of my favorites. It's furniture quality, so I haven't actually used it except to store supplies. The deal I got was 25% off, so I was thrilled to find the quality & flavor of the Ramon Bueso offerings is on par with many high dollar sticks. Smoked one & am storing five. Good cigar. Beautiful ashtray. Great deal.
I don't get the bad reviews on this cigar. I think it is by far one of the best cigars I've had for the price and I've smoked my share of different cigars both expensive and cheap. This cigar has everything you would expect out of a much more expensive cigar and I've been smoking cigars for 30 years. This cigar starts off with a coca coffee flavor with a hint of pepper and spice. Great all the way down to the nub. Draw on it slowly and enjoy the flavor. Don't let this one pass you by.
I am pretty satisfied with it, the cigars were fairly decent, although they definitely need more time in the humidor to even out. I let the cigars sit in my humidor for about a week before trying one, just to get a baseline on these fellas. Even burn, easy to light with a decently tight light colored ash. The draw was good, plenty of decent smoke. They definitely need more time though, to even out the taste. I'll give it six months or so then try another. The ashtray is nifty, I like the little drawer to keep all my little odds and ends in. As a plus, my wife thinks it's pretty.
The cigar is ok nothing special but the ash tray is perfect. Love the great little compartment where you can store lighters and cutters.
Ashtray I got had a broken knob on the drawer, but let me tell you once I got inside WOW! I am going to hide these from myself. Soon as I had the first one I wanted another one. Great taste good burn.
I didn't know what to expect with the Genesis cigars. This cigar exceeded my expectations and my friends enjoyed it as well. The box it came in doubles as an ashtray which is a nice touch and you can store your lighters, cutters and punches in the bottom tray if needed. Highly recommended!
This is a nice little gift for a cigar smoker. The cigars are pretty good and the tray to hold your lighters and cutters is a great idea. The only issue is the ashtray.....they didn't build it right. There are cut outs on the outer frame but the ashtray, which is removable, does not have the notches to hold your cigar. Therefore, you end up having to put your cigar in the ashtray at the corners. Kind of a disappointment, actually.
Originally ordered for the cool ashtray but after smoking one of the cigars its the other way around and the tray was just a bonus. The construction was excellent and had tight roll but amazingly the draw was on point the while way through. The burn was a hair off most likely because I smoked it as soon as I opened the box from CI and the flavor was earthy with hints of coffee and cream, and a flavor I cant describe because I have never experienced it before but it was great. Like I said the draw was perfect and a lot of smoke. This cigar quickly moved up to my top 5 brands list and I can see an order for a box in my future.
Just received this afternoon, larger than you would think, have decided to put them in my humidor for now to let them nap, have learned that they are much better tasting after letting them stabilize for a bit.
I've had this for a couple months now. I smoked one of the 'gars after letting it rest for awhile, it was pretty good. I'm not sophisticated enough to pick up on specific flavors or aromas but the overall taste was ok, nothing to write home about really. Still have 3 sticks left, letting them rest some more and hoping that maybe some aging will develop some flavors. As for the ashtray itself. It's still going strong after 2.5 months, but I noticed about a month ago that it's off center now. It no longer sits flat on the table, it has this annoying wobble, like when a table leg is slightly shorter then it's opposite leg. Dunno why this happened, it was fine when I received it.
just sayin', this is one delicious stick. I got it in the pre black friday sizzler deal and I would definitely buy a box in the future. I've heard it said that the proof is in the ash, I had 2/3 of the cigar ash before I knocked it off myself, and it didn't come off without some convincing. Very satisfied.
Just like the last dude, just got my ashtray combo today. I haven't sparked up the cigar yet, they arrived kinda cold from the outside temps and wanna give 'em a chance to warm up for a few days and stabilize. The ashtray is awesome though; really sharp and a lot bigger than the pics make it look. It's well constructed, drawer opens/closes without a problem and it's perfect to store my new cutter and lighter. Not to mention, got it in 2 days from order. All in all, perfect purchase...thanks CI.
Just got this sampler in today! I've not tried the Genesis Cigar yet but the ashtray is pretty sweet; I love the drawer to hold my lighter and cutter while I'm smoking. Only thing is the tray insert comes above the cigar holders. It needs to be lowered about an 1/4 inch to not be in the way of the cigar.
