A 94-rated stunner.
My Father is enchanting from head to toe. The traditional packaging and vitolas represents the roots of old world Cuba, while the blend combines the very best of Nicaragua with a Havana twist. Each leaf in this blend has been hand-selected for optimum aesthetics and flavor. First, you’ll notice the pristine wrapper. A Habano-Rosado leaf grown in the misty valleys of Ecuador. Beautiful and dark in color with an oily sheen and pre-light aroma that’ll make you froth at the mouth, this wrapper conceals a bold, full-bodied mixture of aged Nicaraguan long-fillers grown from Cuban-seed in Esteli. The experience is robust, yet elegant, offering heavy notes of pepper on the palate and through the nose complemented by a touch of nuts and dark espresso. My Father is a complex, medium to full-bodied cigar that’s surprisingly smooth, creamy at times, and ultimately satisfying.
In addition to several 90 and 93-point ratings, My Father received a well-deserved '94,' to complement its spot among the world's 'Top 25 Cigars':"Very well constructed, with an oily wrapper and triple-seam cap. The cigar is immediately rich and meaty, with leather, coffee bean, and a balancing sweetness."
I am fairly certain that God created the tobacco plant so as to enable man to create the My Father robusto. And we smoked, and we saw that it was good.
I was introduced to the My Father at a wedding, and was very impressed; impressed enough to order a box from Cigars International within a day or two after the wedding. I smoked one last night and it confirmed the wisdom of my purchase decision. As others have described, you get a few different flavors as you smoke it, but what stood out to me was how smooth it was. It lit easily and burned evenly, with a very nice wrapper. I will definitely be ordering these again in the future and may even get a box to share at an upcoming bachelor's party weekend. When you find something this good you just want to share it!
Between my fingers at this very moment is a Lancero/Panatela 7.5 x 38. My goodness! Full bodied, yet deliciously smooth and flavorful. The draw is like creamy butter with a finish that is sweet and nutty with a note of espresso. Five Stars! A magnificent experience with a glass of Noval Black Port. :-)
Very easy to light. Very good construction, draw and burn. Voluminous smoke output that is dry on the palate. A couple touch ups needed. Medium to full strength and full flavors. Initial flavors of cream, sweet spices and coffee with a medium length heavy pepper and caramel finish. The strength and pepper spice constantly change and appear in large waves, tapering off in the second half. A wonderfully blended and complex cigar.
I have to agree with the gentleman from Miamisburg. There is nothing even remotely similar about a budget Perdomo stick & an overpriced My Father offering. Typing using all caps should pretty much tell us everything we need to know about that particular review. The whole line of My father cigars exude full bodied/full flavored goodness. I haven't tried the new Connecticut blend yet. It promises to be much milder than previous MF offerings. Pre-light aromas yield cocoa & cedar. Pepper levels are very low, which I like, as it allows the flavors of currants, leather & black tobacco to shine through. I am amazed at the smoothness of this robusto, which is strong from beginning to end, but is delivered in a way that tricks you into thinking it is milder than it actually is. All the MF stogies have this attribute. The My Father Special is my personal favorite, although I can't afford it anymore than any of the highly priced vitolas from this manufacturer. I occasionally find a deal on them & gladly purchase them when the per stick cost gets down to under 4 bones. Bottom line is that My Father makes some pretty choice cigars. The original earns a 90/100 & the Special gets a 92/100.
Don Pepin is a Cigar God.......I will smoke whatever he makes without hesitation, and I will like it !!!!!!! As expected, this cigar does not disappoint. Here's my review............Its good !
I've tried most, if not all, MF's. This cigar is not cheap and much hyped. But every time, it's been well worth it!
This smoke is in my top three of all time. To no surprise of Don P and Jaime fans, my other two are the 2012 special edition MF's and Jaime Garcia Reservas. Outstanding notes of rich coffee, space shuttle clouds of cool smoke. As a reviewer said above and I couldn't agree more, this stick deserves your own company in silence. A++
What can I say? I got a box of 23 as a gift to myself. As always they never disappoint. Hints of cream, coffee and herbs fills my mouth through the cigar with the traditional hints of pepper. They are not cheap and they stay in my private stash for my pure enjoyment. These will sit for at least 9 months before I indulge. I recommend these without any reservations. A bit tight on the draw but this can be expected from a belicoso. One again My Father proves why these are stored for special occasions. Cheers!
This is a cigar that I would love to smoke every day if I could afford to...Instead, My Father is a 2 a week stick for me with my less expensive options as my daily smokes. Great cigar for the price.
No. 1 (robusto) (5.2"x52) Ran across these at a local store and what a surprise. Absolutely FANTASTIC. 9 out 10.
One of the finest new cigars on the market today. With a reasonable pricing point, I was amazed that It was not a much more expensive stick. If you've not tried the 'my father line' you should, you'll be pleased. A lot. Just in time to order for fathers day this year, Good Luck!
This is one of the best smokes ever! Great taste and great smoke! Flawlessly made and smokes to the nub! Wow I am ordering more right now!
Smoked my first My Father (No. 1) today. Wow! Starts out very strong, then mellows out. Good draw, smoke and ash. 30 minutes later and I'm still a little weak in the knees. Excellent!
My Father is a cigar that every die hard smoker should try. With it's full body flavor of earth, hints of cocoa, cedar, clouds of smoke, and remains smooth from your first draw until you fingers start to burn. It is a work of art as you watch it slowly burn, forming a chalk colored ash. This cigar is meant to be smoked during a time of reflection, and with nothing to distract you from enjoying each puff. You owe it to yourself to purchase the My Father sampler, and I would be shocked if any one would regret the money they spent.
Easily one of the best. Refined perfection and full flavor. There was so much going on its hard to describe, maybe delicious. Everything you look for in a cigar is perfectly balanced here. Unlike alot of overpriced smokes, this one is worth it for any level of smoker.
keeps evolving, changing tastes throughout. My personal favorite.
got it burnin right now and have to say a lil much when it lights but an inch and half in , smooth and light iam getting coffee and alil tingle of spice in the nose .all in all nice. perfect burn and slow just right .lots of smoke and highly recommened
My wife picked one up at a local cigar shop for a family cookout I would be having this past weekend. I tended the grills with this and a glass of Chivas in hand. Excellent smoke. One of the rare finds that is completely worth the money. I will be trying to find some room in my humi for this gem.
The number 1 (robusto) was awarded the honor of being C.A.'s #3 cigar of the year for 2009.
i have smoked a dozen of these and unlike the previous reviewer, i did not taste anything similar to the cheap perdomo bundled cigar mentioned. i suppose the similarity is this, it is much milder to start than i thought especially the robusto size. but that lasts about a half inch then the power hits you between the eyes. this is one of the most complex cigars i have smoked, powerful ,yet smooth and balanced, noticed a lot of intense coffee flavors really linger on the palet.mild pepper as well, this is a work of art, and in my opinion ,pepin garcia's best.
THIS CIGAR WAS PRETTY SMOOTH. IM A DIE-HARD PEPIN FAN AND WHEN I LIT THIS PUPPY UP, IT WAS KINDA DISAPPOINTING AT FIRST. IT IMMEDIATELY TASTED IDENTICAL TO THE PERDOMO "TIERRA DEL SOL" CIGAR. IM SO SERIOUS! IT HAD A MEDIUM BODIED CHARACTER OF WOOD AND COFFEE WITH NOTES OF BROWN SUGAR AND THE PEPPER JOLTED IN ABOUT HALF WAY. IT CHANGED UP FROM A PERDOMO "TIERRA DEL SOL" TASTING CIGAR, TO A NICE COMPLEX PEPIN SMOKE AT ABOUT HALF WAY WHEN THE PEPPER CAME IN. YOU DONT HAVE TO TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. BUY A PERDOMO " TIERRA DEL SOL" AND A "MY FATHER" TASTE THE SIMILARITIES. TIERRA DEL SOL IS ABOUT $10 CHEAPER.
I bought a box of the No.1's (Don Pepin Garcia My Father) without trying one. I was not disappointed. Jamie has learned from the best and it certainly shows. This cigar is peppery, woodsy, sweet and complex. To sum it up, these are great!
