La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial

A bold new statement from La Aroma.

Enjoy Edicion Especial, a tasty new variety from La Aroma de Cuba. Carefully crafted by hand in Nicaragua by cigar artisan Jose 'Don Pepin' Garcia, the Edicion Especial is enchanting through and through. On the outside, a leathery Cuban-seed wrapper glistens with oils. Grown in the misty valleys of Ecuador, this flavorful leaf conceals a robust mixture of aged Cuban-seed long-fillers from the black, volcanic soils of Nicaragua. Together, these tobaccos produce a hearty experience layered with deep, toasty flavors. A silky bouquet smacks the palate with an earthy core of aromatic nuances supported by notes of cedar, leather, and white pepper. Medium to full-bodied, La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial is a satisfying, well-made cigar built for enjoyment.

In addition to a 93-point rating and 'Humidor Selection' honors, La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial was named one of the Top Cigars of the Year, numero four to be exact. The rating noted: "A very attractive belicoso with a great draw and even burn. Every puff is rich with coffee and cocoa notes, yet well balanced by cedary flavors and plenty of spice."

New blend??
Seems this very fine cigar has changed a little. Not quite as full bodied as before. Like it a lot. Great anytime of day.

These are my favorite smokes, but this batch are tight and hard to draw. I hope the rest of the box is better. These are good cigars and taste good.

The Best
This is my favorite cigar. I have one humidor packed with them. I can’t describe it like some of you folks at CI, but I would take this cigar over any other. I can’t get enough of them!

A very nice medium bodied smoke.
The La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial and the Herrera Esteli are two of the better medium bodied cigars I've smoked recently. Not much to find fault with. I did notice that the strength can sneak up on you a bit. Having said that I shared one of these with a friend who seldom smokes and he finished it without incident. A good choice when you are not sure what to reach for but want to smoke something nice. I would rate it somewhere between 4 and 5 stars.

La Aroma de Cuba EE #3
One of my favorite cigars. My opinion, very close to smoking a Cuban. Burn is always great!

So so smoke
I just smoked one of these, which I bought in May 2015. It was a little too strong for my tastes...and left a bitter after taste.

A Great Smoke
Read the general reviews of this brand and chose the Edicion Especial for is mid range strength. I wasn't dissapointed. This cigar is well made, smokes evenly and holds a good ash. Taste borders on the milder side of mid and went well with a cold brew. I would recomend this cigar to anyone wanting to try the brand and will be ordering more.

Great smoke
Good medium strength smoke. Smooth drawing and even burning. Starts with mild cedar and spice, tastes of leather and vanilla. Velvety smoke through out. Spicy finish.

Built for enjoyment, top notch cigar.

Outstanding cigars!
What a good cigar. I do agree that there might be some inconsistant issues, but the least is still great. My recent purchase is perfect, smooth from the start (older box?) #2 robusto. The roll is not too tight or loose, but perfect with clouds of light gray smoke, even burn, and a kick that becomes apparent at 2". A bit pricey, but a total joy. Maybe a bit smoother in flavor than mi amore or mi amore reserve, but equal power. Hard to decide between ee and mi amore reserve. No way these are going to sit. As good or better than the best cubans I have experienced. Pull the trigger.
A fantastic cigar! The E.E. #55 is the cigar I like to enjoy. Just an all-around great cigar- another one I really like to keep in my humidor!

La Aroma De Cuba Edicion Especial #55 is one of my favorite cigars! I always like to have several of these in my humidor to enjoy on a special occasion! Well Done!
AS of Newton, MA
Exotic floral aromas, sweet cedar, a tart fruitiness and mild nuts round out this cigar. The belicoso has an oily habano wrapper that burns slow and even with an excellent draw. It starts out with full flavor and than mellows out with a mild zesty finish. A perfect multi dimensional summer cigar that goes great with ice tea and lemon.

To ME of MA, dude you know your smokes for sure but instead of the RP you mentioned replace that with the 601 green or the Diesel Shorty now you have a list of fine smokes. These are excellent burning, tasting and smelling indeed and should at least be in the top 20 cigars imho. You won't be disappointed if you try these, well worth the price and the wait!

Very solid and smooth. I like the band and how it was made. I ordered a bundle last week. Time will tell if I really like them but so far their great. I've seen these in the magazine a lot but never order them. You can't go wrong that's for sure.
FD of Gardena, CA
Smoking one as I write. Has a lot of pepper at the start pretty smooth with tobacco flavor. Can't complain worth what you pay for . This one for sure in the top ten. These are a must buy. Try them.
FD of Gardena, CA
I spent one fantastic hour and a half with the LADC EE No.5 the other night. Man, what a fine smoke. After an initial blast of spice and white pepper, the cigar quickly mellowed out to a beautifully toasty medium bodied stick. The burn and construction were perfect as you would expect from a cigar of this caliber;cool, smooth and delicious to the nub. I will buy nothing else until I can get some of these in my humidor. Many thanks to the BOTL that gifted me this cigar.

Picked up 5 belicosas on a Jambalaya a few weeks ago. Let them rest a little but I really couldn't wait to try one. The cigar is a masterpiece in appearance and construction and the fancy schmancy band doesn't hurt. Evenly packed with a beautiful wrapper and a perfect burn. Somewhat creamy with a spicy, white peppery finish. A little bitterness is present, but nothing a couple of months rest wouldn't cure. In fact this would be a great cigar to age for a year or two; I'll bet it would become unbelievable. I'm a huge Don Pepin Garcia fan, and this one is up there with his other finest efforts. The best comparison might be with the Serie JJ, but I think I prefer this. It's a little out of my price range, unfortunately, but if you've got the dough you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended.

This is a hit and miss smoke. Wrapper is always flawless, but binder and filler occasionaly seems like it wasn't allowed to age properly. I have gotten around this a couple of times by allowing the cigar to rest for 6 months in the humi, but for the price this shouldn't have to be a standard practice. When this cigar is on, it is on. It is more toward the full bodied side of things, but not so much that it requires an "accomplished" pallet to enjoy. It has a nice draw (I don't get the box press or the I-press so if that is your thing the draw wouldn't be that great.) I am a robusto fan, so I haven't smoked any of the larger offerings, but this might be an answer to the filler and binder issues. All in all a good cigar, but you may have to let it rest a good while before smoking.

Hey C.I. and fellow herfers,I've been a fan of the standard (La Aroma De Cuba) so when I found out that they were doing a collaboration with Don Pepin Garcia I already knew these would be first rate-got a box of robustos and smoked a few and they were just exquisite .I'm letting the rest age and distracting myself with other cigars.Trying to imagine how they'll taste in 6mo. to a year. Thanks C.I. as always,RK

Another incredible creation from the master blender...havent had a stick by Pepin that I didnt want to eat,,,this one passes the test with flying colors,,,rich oily wrapper,,medium bodied,,spices flying through,,gonna need new fingerprints after this burner...if you havent tried it its a must have,,,this is my top 5,,,DPG Blue, 601 Red, Cubao, RP Edge, and the La Aroma EE, if any of those are on your list,,,then make this the latest edicion....

This is an incredibly smooth and refined cigar. Medium bodied through out with a complex flavor profile that amps up as you smoke it. Creamy and nutty with nice easy going spiciness. Additionally the construction and burn are perfect making this cigar a smoking pleasure from start to finish.

I'm a big time Pepin fan! And enjoy all of his spicy, peppery creations, and the( La Aroma de Cuba Edicion )Especial is no exception. This cigar shows it's spicy side off the bat, then morphs into a creamy, nutty, very flavorful smoke with a tad of pepper on the finish. Very smooth, very balanced. The aroma produced by the cigar is heavenly. This cigar is definately worked it's way into my top 5 favorite cigars. I would recommend this smoke to any fan of Med/Full bodied smokes.
JJ of Sherrills Ford, NC
Ah, another Pepin classic (La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial). This one isn't quite as spicy as some of his other blends, but this is a quality smoke nonetheless. The smoke is smooth and flavorful and the construction was flawless. One I plan to keep in the humidor for years to come!

Despierta y huele las rosas!

Jacob J.

(Wake up & Smell the Roses!)

Most people don’t start their day with a powerhouse cigar. But it’s February in Pennsylvania, and while the weather has been all over the place lately precipitation-wise, there’s one thing it’s been steadily, and that’s cold. Sure, it might not be below freezing every day, but cold is cold, right? And when I’m shivering on my way to the office, I generally lean towards the stronger stuff.

There’s just something about a real heavy, full-bodied cigar that warms my soul. In the summer I want something with an airy, crisp finish, but in the winter, nothing but those palate-busting, earth-laden spice bombs will do. That’s why for breakfast this morning I reached for a new release from the factory that produces a good number of my favorite spice-bombs: The La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial, made by the one and only Don Pepin Garcia in Nicaragua.

Now for those who have been around the block a few times, La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial should be a familiar name. The La Aroma de Cuba bearing the ‘EE’ on the secondary band has been with us since ‘08 but received a bit of a reblending before being rereleased in early 2020. On paper, the blend remains the same: Nicaraguan long-fillers covered by a Nicaraguan binder and Ecuador Havana wrapper, just like before. The difference is in the primings, the parts of the plant from which the leaves are pulled. The tobacco used in the updated version come from higher up on the plant and exhibit more strength & complexity than the original. I haven’t burned the original EE recently enough for it to be fresh in my mind to compare, but I can say that as far as my tastes are concerned, the updated version fits the bill perfectly.

For this tasting, I went with the No. 1 size, a 5 5/8” x 46 Corona Gorda. The wrapper is chestnut-brown and oily, with a little bit of tooth and very little give when squeezed. Overall a beautiful specimen, and when run under the nose gives off aromas of barnyard, leather, coffee, and a touch of citrus. The draw was a bit tight, but by no means unenjoyable, and the cold draw carried notes of earth, coffee, and bread. It took a light from my soft-flame lighter without fuss.

While this might not be everyone’s cup of tea (pun intended) for a morning cigar, to me it’s the ultimate wake-up smoke. For starters, the dominant flavors throughout are coffee, cocoa, spice, and earth. Naturally, this makes for an excellent pairing with my daily cup of strong black coffee. The coffee and earth are there from the beginning, but the spice and cocoa come into the picture in the first third and steadily rise as the burn approaches the band. I would peg the first half as medium-full in body, and while there is some strength, it won’t put you on your ass. After the halfway point, the flavor is kicked up a notch, and the spice and pepper rise to join coffee, earth, and cocoa in the dominant up-front notes. There’s a bit more sweetness in the finish of the second half, which is more apparent with a retrohale, but it’s still not enough to make me describe this stick as ‘sweet’.

While Don Pepin has long been a favorite cigar producer of mine, La Aroma de Cuba is a brand I overlook too often. The reblended Edicion Especial has inspired me to take another run through their portfolio, especially before the weather warms up again and I move to less heavy selections. Overall, a very satisfying cigar that’s strong, but not inaccessibly so. And can’t forget the burn, razor straight all the way down with no touchups required. Bravo Don Pepin, this stick was the perfect way to start the day.
