San Lotano comes full circle....err....full Oval. Before the Oval, San Lotano was praised by all who crossed its path. But after Oval there’s nothing left to say - this exciting new handmade says all that needs to be said.Introducing the San Lotano Oval, a completely unique blend and shape that’s all its own. Featuring a distinctively-shaped press finish that looks like, you guessed it, an oval, and a blend of tobaccos that’s equally as unique, San Lotano Oval is truly a special cigar. Sporting a toothy and scrumptious Habano 2000 wrapper and brimming with rich Nicaraguan and Honduran long fillers, San Lotano Oval is primed for flavor. Accenting the blend further is a secret filler, known only to the people at Tabacalera Fernandez. Despite its untraditional appearance, this shape perfectly complements this masterfully blended handmade, creating an amazingly smooth and balanced experience. Expect notes of leather, nuts, and spice backed by a long, rich finish. Medium to full-bodied, the Oval burns and draws spot on. Unlike anything else, and that’s a good thing.San Lotano Oval received five separate 91-point ratings, one of which earned it a spot in the Top 25 Cigars of the Year. But this one in particular says it all perfectly: "Crafted with a very round head and ovular edges, the flat corona is rich with steady notes of leather, wood and dried cherry. The draw is even and lush throughout"
Wow!! One of the best cigars I've smoked to date. I've been smoking cigars for a couple of years and tried many premium smokes, but this one takes the crown. The oval shape is unique and feels good in hand. Draw is perfect and burn is razor sharp. Billows of creamy smoke and the flavors are out of this world. Seriously, you have to try this one!
By far one of the best cigars I have ever smoked. I HIGHLY enjoyed it. After I finished I almost lit another one back to back I liked it so much.
Quality cigar, plenty of flavor and I thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through. It burned incredibly evenly, despite a shamefully awful light. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for whenever they go on sale, as it is probably my favorite smoke to date.
Truly a standout blend. Featuring a Habana 2000 wrapper, Nicaraguan & Honduran fillers, as well as a secret leaf, SL Oval embodies medium to medium full goodness. The 6.5" X 54 Toro is a significant achievement that bears the makers name. Already a major player in the full flavored area, with triumphs like Diesel, Core & Man-O-War, AJ Fernandez puts his distinct mark on the medium bodied market with Oval. Creamy smooth clouds of spice laden smoke produce a myriad of delicious flavors, that are ever changing & as complex as any medium bodied cigar, in my experience. Earning well deserved accolades that include "Cigar of the Year" nomination & ratings as high as 96, my personal rating is an enthusiastic 94/100. Worth trying & worth keeping on hand. My only caveat is that I prefer slightly more full bodied blends. That doesn't stop San Lotano Oval from making my top 10 list.
I agree with everyone. I'm a big AJ fan. This cigar is great! You cannot go wrong with this cigar!
This guy really knows how to make great cigars. I really like this blend smooth yet flavorful. And unlike some others construction, burn and draw is never bad.
This is absolutely the best cigar I have ever smoked. Honestly, this should be everyone's gold standard to compare the rest!
Just had my first one last night and I'm VERY IMPRESSED!!! Truly one of the best cigars I've ever smoked!!!
This was my first Cigar I smoked and now I'm a 600 + a 150 humidor owner! All I can say is Wow, still today after a year plus it will all ways have a place in my humidor and a special place for a good friend who drops by! Ir you never tried it your missing out on a very smooth med full Cigar, you won't be disappointed that's a promise!
Double wow! A.J. has so many wonderful blends that he is beginning to rival Alec Bradley, in my eyes. San Lotano Oval is another winner. A bit milder than most other Fernandez offerings I have tried, but no less powerful in flavor. After cutting, I noticed the easy draw. Perhaps that is due to the irregular shape or it may be on purpose. Either way, it works. Clouds of smoke are emitted with every delicious puff. As a result, the stick burns rather quickly, which is a shame, since I want the experience to last. Finding a deal like the A.J. Fernandez sampler this came from, keeps the price down to a manageable level. So I will be looking for a deal on a quantity of these, as I do for many other over five bone blends, that I like to keep on hand. Thanks to CI, the opportunities keep coming & for that I am thankful. As for the Oval blend itself, I am hooked. Medium bodied, full flavored sticks are not all that common in my experience. Oval is that & a lot more. It smells fantastic, hosts a myriad of spices & goes great with a cup of expresso. Perfect for the 1st 'gar of the day & the next & the next. You get the idea.
Can't understand why this cigar only received a 91 -- definitely a 96 plus: even consistency, good draw and the flavor is pleasant on the palete.
Excellent!
Longer than expected burn and pretty good taste.
Excellent...flavor, appearance, construction, burn are all number 1. Very enjoyable.
In my opinion, the best cigar in AJ Fernandez portfolio. Great right of the truck, but if you have patience and you let them rest, Wow, you enter into another world. I love the robusto size. The shape and the way it feels in your hand is always consistent, the flavors are the closest I've come to smoking a Cuban cigar.
Bought this cigar after my brother in-law recommended it and WOW! This is definitely gonna be a staple in my humidor, I love the oval shape, the draw is smooth and the burn is consistent/even. Nice flavors, leathery & bold. Talking about it, I'm gonna smoke another one right now!
Really liked these cigars. Will be buying a box soon. Thanks CI.
If you like a cigar with lots of favorful smoke then this is for you. Best of all, it's not like a crawdaddy, where you have to fight for the goodness. This cigar lets loose with clouds of flavor with a smooth, effortless draw. This stick is now in my top five list. Don't buy it! I want them all! Just kidding friends - let it sit just a week in your humi, and you'll be sending me Xmas presents for this recommendation.
This is my GO TO cigar! I am an AJ Fernandez fan, and he hit the ball out of the park with the San Lotano line.
I absolutely loved this cigar. Very smooth draw. Loaded with flavor. Definitely of my list of cigars I love.
It seems almost everything gets vaguely labeled as medium-full, but this cigar defines the category for me. It's a clear step beyond medium, but not one of those ass-kicker full cigars. The extra step just brings rich flavor, but keeps the clean burn of milder cigars. Nice even burn too - I wondered how the oval would handle, and it performed well. I'm not sure if it burned quickly or if time just flies when you're enjoying a great smoke. Even the shape was much more comfortable in the hand than I would have expected. Highly recommend this one
The Oval is a superb cigar. Before lighting this cigar I smelled the wrapper. It honestly had the aroma of a sweet chocolate. It smokes smooth and toasty, chocolatey. It may cost a bit more, but it is definitely worth it. No harshness at all. As I inhale, the sweet aroma passes my nose with such a wonderful sweet toasty aroma. It was a delicious smell. Like someone had just ever so slightly burned chocolate. Will definitely buy this cigar. My mouth tastes like chocolate malt meal. I had no wrapper issues whatsoever. A+
I recently smoked a San Lotano Oval toro, and loved it so much that I ordered a full box. Unfortunately, like another reviewer, several of the cigars arrived with severe cracks at both the head and foot of the cigars. I'm sure that CI will make this right, but there appears to be some quality control issues with this cigar. Perhaps it is the unique oval shape that is causing the cigar to crack?
I had to buy a box of these unique shaped cigars when I saw them in the top 25 in Cigar Journal. Chocolatey with a mellow refined sweetness. Nicely balanced, a perfect draw and long finish. The wrapper is dark, leathery thick and chewy, however six of the cigars were damaged beyond smoking. CI was very cooperative in replacing them so I am very satisfied with this purchase as always.
great cigar, one of my favorite..i cannot find in my local cigar shop it is a treat to order these cigars..thanks ci
