Oliva Saison

Tis the season for Oliva.

What happens when the Oliva family takes the best yield, from all their fields, from the same year? Amazing things....amazing things dubbed Saison by Oliva.

Saison by Oliva is the latest addition to their growing arsenal of standout Nicaraguan handmades. To create this blend, a silky, dark brown Ecuadorian Habano wrapper was paired with a rich combination of long-fillers from Oliva’s farms in Somoto, Esteli, and Condega, Nicaragua - all harvested in the same crop year. This vintage ensemble is ripe with flavor, delivering a big, booming Nicaraguan personality that’s notably refined and well-balanced. Notes of leather, oak, pepper, earth, coffee, and a slight twang on the finish offer a perfect interplay and coat the palate with proficiency. It’s medium to full-bodied at its peak, but the density of flavor can hold its own against even the fullest of them. In a nutshell, this new handmade from Oliva has charm, character, and ample flavor. Plus, it’s yours in a box for around $4 apiece every day.

Saison - great cigar. Well done Oliva.
Saison, I am glad I held off on posting a review of this fine cigar until I had few of them and the last one having had 4+ months in my humidor. The first two I smoked shortly after purchase and I was not that impressed. They had an after taste the just did not sit well with me. However the longer the sat in my humidor the better they got. This one I must say is excellent. From construction to taste it is one excellent cigar. Well worth the price. Highly recommend it.

Good product, which I always expect from Oliva, well priced and goes extremely well with tiny sips of Remy Martin cognac.

Nice flavor, usually burns well
I received one in a sample pack and liked it, so I ordered a 5-pack during my next order. All but one or two burned well, and even those weren’t too high-maintenance. Their flavor is rich with good mouthfeel; I would buy again.

Strong to smooth
This is my 4th box of these gems. I can't get enough of them. They start out pretty robust, but by mid-way through the stick, they turn very mild. A great cigar that leaves you without a strong punch in the mouth.

What Is Not To Like?
Medium Bodied--- flavorful, The Saison has become my go-to cigar, sure in the knowledge that my one-a-day smoke will be well worth the choice.

Wow! This one is a flavor bomb. The entire 5 pack of Vintage 2009 was gone in two days. They were amazing but regrettably these may not be widely available once the "Vintage 2009" is sold out. I have some 2011 Maduros coming which I am anxious to try.

Nice cigar at a decent price
Plenty of smooth flavor, nicely made. An excellent smoke.
Customer Testimonials
The Oliva Saison was amazing. Super smooth. A little sweet. Great construction and burn as with all Olivas. I will be stocking up more of these!
I've been on a mission lately, trying about 19 different cigars so far, and this is one of the best even though I lean more to the mild-medium taste. Pleasant and light aftertaste, burns evenly and stayed lit. Agree with all the positive comments.
Have to say this was my first Oliva Saison that I have tried and I was impressed. I usually smoke a Gurkha brand cigar, but these are maybe a new one I might have to keep stocked up on. Smokes awesome, burns even, has a great flavor. Couldn't ask for anything better than that.
Saison is on point with the flavor. I really like this cigar. Construction is great, burns evenly, and has a great taste. I like the twang on the finish. Great cigar.
At first, an annoyingly tight draw and bitter taste. After 2 weeks in the humidor, it was a completely different cigar. Great flavor with easy draw and plenty of smoke. I never regretted my impatience more.
Oliva Saison is a great tasting cigar that is very smooth in flavor. I enjoyed this one to the fingertips. Aroma gets your attention too. Very nice all the way around.
This is my first review of a cigar and I've been moved to write it because the Oliva Saison is that good. The burn is perfect, leaving a solid ash that will stay for about two inches. The construction fantastic with a nice firm draw and the flavor oh, so satisfying. There's a subtle sweetness to this cigar which lasts all the way through the nub. Almost burnt my fingers smoking this one! And lastly, the value can't be beat. You won't regret picking this one up.
Oliva V is all I smoke. I wanted to give the Saison a shot and I was impressed. Not as strong as a V but a very satisfying cigar.
Quickly becoming my favorite smoke enjoy them immensely another winner from Oliva
One really tastes a variety of spices as the cigar burns to the nub.
Oliva has another winner. The Saison is a anytime of the day, very enjoyable stick. Great value.
Although I think the quality of Oliva has deteriorated because they are producing so many cigars, I thought this was a very good mid- level stick. Plenty of body, very woodsy, and consistent to the end. Other than the MIII, this is the only Oliva that I am buying these days.
Bought a box, as it included the 10 stick Oliva sampler. It proved hard to turn down. Was not expecting much with this cigar, but figured it can't be that bad if it was from Oliva. Needless to say, I was impressed. Medium bodied cigar that smoked evenly (tried one the first day i got them) with a slightly tighter than average draw, but not too tight at all. Subsequent smokes have been great. The only thing I think Oliva did to save money was to not use their standard embossed cigar band, this one is flat and had a thick shiny coating and the box is kinda basic, but I can live without the fancy stuff you don't end up smoking! I think this is my new "go to" cigar when I don't want to drop a ton on a cigar.
I was pleased when I received my deal of 10 Saison torpedos. Everything about these cigars shouted, 'excellent product' from the high quality embossed glossy ring to the rich, oily wrapper, to the flavor. Peppery flavors with somewhat metallic notes. The wrapper offered a hint of sweetness as it burned down. Long, pleasant finish with a somewhat sweeter aftertaste. Not for smoking on a walk, in the wind; this one's special. Burn one with a friend so you can compare notes. There's a lot there!
Just ordered a box of the Toros, mainly for the MB3s they came bundled with, and curiosity. I'm an Oliva fan and have yet to smoke one I don't like. It will take a few more before I have fully formed my opinion on them, but here's my first impressions. First draw was quite floral with some bitterness at the end. I've never really smoked a newly released cigar like this before, but I've read plenty of reviews referring to sticks being too fresh. I now understand that phrase a bit better. While there is certainly a depth of flavors to this one (floral, grassiness, cedar), it just seems a bit too fresh. That freshness (along with some bitterness in the first third) detract from the overall smoke. Not the best Oliva, but I imagine with some age it might stand alongside its siblings.
Off the truck, it had a barnyard-like aroma, but opened with an initial blast of pepper eventually mellowing into leather and oak. Past the first inch the cigar opened up and became more balanced with the noted flavors with an earthy aftertaste. If your a huge Oliva fan you will sincerely enjoy the experience and is a worthy stick to keep in the humi.

Oliva Saison

Steve R
Oliva. I’ve always loved the brand. Back when it was lesser known, and the Serie ‘O’ cigars came in felt bands and the maduro variety came in toilet bowl shaped boxes....yeah, I loved them back then. Some of you might remember the days I’m harking, some may not. Either way, most folks know the name Oliva, and the brand has been flourishing, at a feverish pitch, over the past 6-7 years.
Allow me to set the record straight. I am not a huge fan of the Oliva Serie ‘V.’ Gasp! I know, I know. 94-rated. #4 cigar of 2007. #12 cigar of 2008. #5 cigar of 2009. #22 cigar of 2011. #18 cigar of 2012. I get it. It’s good. It’s really good, and I would never deny that. It comes from Oliva, they make quality handmades, and people love it. In fact, they flock toward it, still today, 7 years later. But for me....well, my palate leans towards other cigars, and plenty of them come from Oliva. And that’s ok! There ain’t nothing wrong with that, and don’t let folks tell you otherwise. That’s the beauty of this fun little hobby of ours.
Now, let me bring up Oliva Saison. Saison is a term from the wine industry, and a method used by the Oliva family to craft this blend. Hence the name. Basically, in a tasty nutshell, Oliva took the finest yield of tobaccos, from all of their tobacco crops, from the same year. They carefully blended these tobaccos, and re-blended them, then re-blended them over and over until something truly special and unique was created. And that, my friends, is how Oliva Saison was born.
On paper, Oliva Saison sounds simple. A silky Ecuador Habano wrapper, overtop all-Nicaraguan long-fillers from Oliva’s farms in Somoto, Esteli, and Condega. But through careful blending and constant testing, the Oliva family has captured the deep, rich, prominent flavors of Nicaraguan tobaccos and delivers them in a bold yet graceful and exceedingly unique way. Upon lighting, pepper and earth smack the palate in robust fashion. No taste bud is left untouched, and the thick, creamy smoke fills the mouth and nostrils. Like many cigars, the pepper fades ever so slightly, making room for other nuances. Leather. Toast. Coffee. Nuts. Rich tobacco. These flavors mingle with the initial burst of flavor to deliver a medium-bodied bouquet that grows in strength as the slow burn approaches a nub-like state. Tons of flavor, delivered gradually and almost strategically, to complete a complex and eventful experience with no peaks or valleys. Just a consistently eventful array of flavor that satisfies from start to finish.
It’s really that simple. An incredibly difficult cigar to blend, but incredibly easy cigar to enjoy. That’s Oliva Saison. Yet another fantastic release from the Oliva family, and a shining addition to the award-winning, highly rated Oliva portfolio.
