MacBaren Dark Twist Pipe Tobacco

Purchased from CI in the 1-lb bag and shipped super fast at no charge because I'm a veteran. This is a roll cake tobacco blend. Upon opening, the aroma of rich tobaccos comes thru that is slightly pungent due to the DFK part of the blend I believe. It is cased/flavored supposedly with maple but I did not detect that in the aroma. The roll cake coins have average moisture and I rubbed them out to pack the pipe. Approximately 3 coins are required to do the 3-step pack. Char light showed moderate expansion. The burn is average for hotness. The smoking experience is smooth indeed. The flavor is rather complex and rich, with the DFK being the dominant flavor. This Mac Baren has a bite to it so sipping it will get you the full flavor without the bite. The bite cost it half a ratings point. The room note is average and yet I believe it to be intriguing though non-smokers may not be as pleased with this one as other aromatics that have more casing and flavors added that add that extra something that makes people ask that question about what kind of tobacco you are smoking. Bottom line: Dark Twist offers a robust smoke but is a bit on the pricey side. Compared to Mac Baren's 7 Seas line, this member of the Classics Line comes up a little short only based on price. Excellent overall. I am cellaring this one as I think aging will show even more promising outcomes. Definitely worth trying. 4 stars all the way.

This is what tobacco should taste like. Wonderful aroma and excellent flavor. The coins in the 1 pound bag may be a bit rough in appearance, but the flavor and taste are outstanding.

Although it have double the virginia amount vs dark fired Kentucky however the latter dominate significantly. This is very sharp when smoked young, need to mature more. I love mac baren tobacco and i know they benefit from aging. Very similar to orlik dark strong but in roll cut. Smell is smokey sweet, taste is of sweet virginia and bbq kentucky. Burns slow and cool. If you are a fan of the leaf combination then this may worth a try.
