Ha!!!!!
The only hesitation that occurred was when I re-evaluated my career in the cigar business after being offered this sorry cigar. I took the maker's word that they're mellow, smooth, and not vomit-inducing. Just to make sure though, I outsourced the tasting process to a trio of palate-challenged dudes across the hall from me. They musta been knee-deep in the sauce because they gave Hesitant Pirate a unanimous thumbs up. I guess the $29.99 per bundle price tag for 20 big Churchills had something to do with it. One thing is for sure: there's no accounting for taste.
Seems like all of us received this one in a sampler. Just smoked one on the driving range and was suprised what a good smoke it is for a buck. Might actually be a PEC(performance enhancing cigar), as the balls were flying straighter and farther than usual.
Great for the price. They really have no flavor whatsoever to speak of, but for a $1 each, that's fine. Throw them in a humidor for a few months and it picks up a tiny bit of flavor. Recommended for a cheapo cigar.
I got some of these in the PO' Boy II sampler. I originally got the sampler to fill up some room and season a new 100+ ct humidor and as I bought more quality cigars I realized I needed to remove some of the random ones. The sampler was 1$ a stick so I don't expect greatness, Just looking to expose myself to something different when sitting on my deck at night. I pulled this one out and started on it expecting to get a few min in and want to throw it out. I was extremely amazed. It has a very light flavor but absolutely no bitter, bite, or harshness. None, zero, nulcha, zip. It hit that "I would really like a cigar right now" spot without having to kill one of my Acids or Gurkhas. I don't know if I would buy a pack of just these but if someone offered me one or these were added to a combo/sampler pack I wouldn't be upset. Its lack of personality IS its personality. True it doesn't have anything that jumps out at you but it is just a good solid basic no frills cigar. It has no obnoxious odor to the people around you, draws easy, billows smoke, and finishes clean. You won't get excited but you won't be upset. I use this cigar as a baseline comparison. Its like tasting a coffee that all you can say "yup, thats coffee." Theres nothing good to praise it for but nothing bad to complain about, which in and of itself is a praise. That the only con about this thing is it doesn't have any kind of signature good or bad and at 1$ each that's exactly what you want!
Great smoke, very mild. Will buy again.
I was a little leary of these, but in weak moment I bought a bundle of 20. Well guess what, there not that bad. I probably wouldn't bust them out at the big game but they're great when I kick back watch a movie after a hard days work.
I don't know why some people rip on these things. Granted, they're not top of the line or anything, but a perfectly good day to day smoke. They burn evenly, don't fall apart, and taste decent. They've become my de facto cigar for non special occasions. I'll be ordering more when I run out and have room in my overstuffed humidor.
My friend Fred loves these. He buys three bundles every month. Can't get enuff of them. Gives em to the mailman the dog catcher and his back waxer. He just loves them. Puts them on his tree at Christmas. Wow what a smoke
The first time I order these I liked them as an every day smoke. The second time I ordered them I was not impressed. The construction was wimpy and the sticks felt really soft to the touch, like they didn't have enough filler. I'll give them another chance, but only one bundle at a time.
Not a bad cigar, nice burn on them, but no taste to them....can't put my finger on the taste.... but they're not harsh.
A nice, smooth, even burning, mild smoke for cheap. You can't beat this one with a stick. It's a good deal all around.
Ok, not the best I've ever had but with the right stout/whiskey combo to back it up, not bad. I never had to re-light, had good smoke and not bad flavor. Not bad at all for a buck a stick.
Got two of these in the po boy sampler, and they are not too bad at all, even burn, good draw, and very mild, they have almost a buttery mouth feel and a very light flavor, a good morning cigar or for when you want something exceptionally light.
This cigar is far from being sorry. I am pleasantly surprised after smoking 3 of them out of a bundle i just received. They are mild, that's for sure, but i have to say i am pleased by the pleasant aroma and taste. These will be my every day cigar since it seems the Dark Sharks are so hard to get now. These aren't as good as the Gran Habano Vintage cigars by no means, but for what they cost these Hesitant Pirate beauties are a great value. Thanks, CI for being the best cigar retailer in the world!!!
Not actually that bad. Smokes good, just no taste.
Easy to joke about this cigar. However, it is smokeable. It actually surprised me a bit. Offers no bitterness or bad after taste. Simply lack flavor like 99.9% of $1 cigars. Worth a try it you are looking for a low priced filler cigar.
Construction is fair, most of the sticks in the bundle i bought had pretty veins in them.Smoked 2 when i first got them, they were harsh and the taste was questionable at best. After they sat in the humi for 2 months, the taste was better and wasnt harsh. They are good everyday and yard smokes.Just let them sit a bit. I also took them out of the cellophane.
Good draw, burns well, kind of a buttery taste with a hint of spice tastes better at the beginning and middle than toward the end. Decent everyday cigar whether you are swabbing the decks, raping and pillaging or walking the plank into shark infested waters.
This are not very good, just to mild for me, but for the price it might be perfect for somebody else.
Got these in a sampler pack and the first one I smoked I wasn't too enthused about. Was mellow enough but I didn't like the after taste. So, I tried a second one after I let it live in my humidor for a good month. Was definitely better the second time around. I might consider buying these to toss out to my moocher buddies when they come over to sample my wares.
Received one of these in a Churchill Sampler a few months ago and put it in my rotation of "everyday" smokes. Well, it's no Gurkha or Vegas 5A (my two favorites), but I like it better than some of the other turds that were in the sampler. A buck a stick is about the most I will pay for it - it's good for a "I want to smoke something, but don't know what" mood I get in from time-to-time. Would be a good choice when the fish aren't biting too well, or when mowing the grass or walking around the neighborhood.
These are very mild, kinda bland actually. Doesn't taste like much. Not so great aftertaste. It is an ugly cigar. At first I thought it was poorly made, but it smoked well and burnt evenly so I think the rough look is just to add to the "pirate" gimmick. I'd give it a 5/10. I like the art on the band, but that's about it.
