Gurkha Legend Vintage 2001

Gurkha Legend is back in vintage form and it’s better than ever.

Legend - a bold statement. A statement few brands can stand behind. However, this statement is one Gurkha both embraces and exemplifies to the fullest degree.

In 2008, the 90-rated Gurkha ‘8-Year Aged’ Legend was taken from the market due to a shortage in tobacco leaves. The rare, uber-expensive tobaccos used to create this delicious morsel were used up, much to the disappointment of countless enthusiasts. However, Gurkha has launched a new breed of Gurkha Legend using a choice Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper cultivated in 2001. This marks the rebirth of Gurkha’s highly perceived Legend, and it’s called Vintage 2001.

Gurkha Legend Vintage 2001 is a savory morsel dressed in a dark, triple-fermented Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. This rich, chewy leaf cultivated in 2001 conceals a bold blend of extensively aged Cuban-seed long-fillers grown in the Dominican's famed Cibao Valley. After extensive post-roll aging, each Gurkha Legend releases gobs of rich, satisfying flavors. A buttery-smooth bouquet sits heavy on the palate yielding a rich creaminess throughout; a creaminess complemented by notes of dark chocolate, leather, and black espresso bean. The finish is long and memorable, yielding peppery-sweet nuances after each puff. Medium to full in body and complex to the core, Gurkha Legend Vintage 2001 is truly a work of cigar-making art.

Then, there’s the Gurkha Legend Vintage 2001 Aniversario. A beautiful creation using only the blend’s finest, highest-grade tobaccos and crafting them into a gorgeous Double Perfecto shape. Magnificent, and extremely tasty to say the least.

Good but wrapped tight so not enough air which means more re-lighting if you set it aside for a few minutes.

Not a bad cigar.
Before I write my review I have a concern. This is my fourth or fifth review and none have reached the website or your magazine and no thank you or reason why. I have checked the website and the last reviews was from spring of this year. It's fall and how many reviews like mine go into file 13. The Gurkha Vintage 2001 was not a bad medium cigar. Had a few burn issues ( uneven burn towards one side) but other than that enjoyed the smoke. Lots of smoke, easy draw, and medium flavor. As with all mail order cigars thirty days or more in the Humidore improves the cigars over all quality.

Not terrible but not good either
Pretty dry when I received them, had to place in the humidor for 1 month before trying one out. The flavor was a bit fuller/bolder than anticipated. A spicy taste that lingered far after the smoke was done. I won't buy again.

Nice even Smoke!
Well made cigar. The flavors are blended well. The cigar matures through the middle, but at the end when it heats up it, the flavors are over ridden by the heat. I truly enjoyed this cigar. I guess that's why I bought more than one.

Deployed Joy
Being in the military and deployed I am always dealing with uncertainty of deliveries, CI regularly delivers as expected. The Gurka Vintage I received did not disappoint and was enjoyed when i completed a mission and back at Camp.

Definitely a must have in your humidor!!!
Exactly what you would expect from Gurkha... great smoke, smooth draw, nice aroma all at a great price. I only regret that this was a 5 pack because they were gone before I knew it.

Expected More
Not flavorful at all. Poor burn lots of smoke from end of cigar from start to finish but little smoke on draw. Got dizzy trying to draw smoke. Bought 20 got a free 5 pack. Smoked 5 and will not smoke another. Expected more for the price.

Primary Smoke
Gurkha is my go to [second only to LGC] and these are part of the reason. Love the double perfecto shape and the smoke is smooth, easy and just keeps layering flavor upon flavor.

Good flavor, but spotty construction
Easy, though airy start. A bit of a loose roll. Tunneled badly. Decent medium flavor; sweet.

Fell Apart
I am usually impressed with the Gurkha brand of cigars, but these here I am not. They start off good but shortly after lighting them, for some reason the wrapper and then the rest of the cigar start falling apart and become unable to smoke. I thought the first one was a problem, but it has happened three times in a row, even after being in the humidor for a couple of weeks.

I love to discover new enjoyable cigars!
This is my first Gurkha cigar. I usually smoke lighter, milder cigars like Macanudo or Montecristo. I expected the Gurkha to be stronger, as most darker colored tobaccos have been for me. I was very surprised! This is an easy drawing, medium flavored cigar with a very smooth and enjoyable character. I love discovering new experiences to add to my humidor, and I will probably buy these again!

Very Vintage
Great vintage taste. Wish the wrappers wouldn't have shed. Not bad for a free 5 pack but not in my top 50.

Like smoking a pepper can
I have tried 2 and both are overpowering on the pepper. I will let these sit and age so they hopefully mellow out on the pepper. Very disappointed.

So the smell is aweful but there a great cigar. I'm so perplexed on this on. I just smoked one so far so maybe the rest will be different.

BAD cigar, will never smoke these again!
I got five of these in a mega-sampler, sat in the humidor for over a month....terrible, dried out cigars. The wrappers immediately started unraveling when I cut the end off the cigar, on one it came completely off before I lit the cigar. I will never order another Gurkha cigar even in a sampler, a complete waste! Not sure if CI was clearing out the warehouse, but these were BAD.

Pleasurable mild long smoke
I've got this one as a part of a Gurkha sampler. Unlike other Gurkha cigars that I've tried, this one is actually pretty well built, has a nice smooth wrapper and draw was pretty easy after one cut. Looks like majority of Gurkhas suffer from inconsistent build quality. Burn was a little uneven, but good enough, it didn't require any relights. Taste was pleasant and not overwhelming, slightly spicy, mild to medium strength (which I prefer) and it didn't leave horrible aftertaste which I was afraid of after smoking a couple of other Gurkhas from the same sampler.

YUM
All I can say is YUMMY!!! Well, I guess I can say a little more. This cigar came in a Gurkha Brown bag special, so I was hesitant to smoke it, not wanting to be disappointed. So it sat in my humidor for 2 months until the day I decided to light up. WOW from start to finish the flavor was consistent and delicious (chocolate, coffee and a hint of spice), the burn was great, only 1 touch-up need after the first ash. Highly recommend this cigar!
Customer Testimonials
WOW this a wonderful cigar. I had no burn probs or hard draws with this cigar. I must have gotten a well seasoned bundle cause these are GREAT. The taste is mild with no bitterness at all, the ash is nice, volumes of smoke and the aroma is really nice. I've only handed out 1 of these beauties and he was THOROUGHLY impressed as well. Thank you, CI. sarge66.
For me this was a mediocre smoke. The flavor profile is okay, but the burn is bad and it went out very quickly. Not impressed with this Gurkha.
Just got done smoking the Gurkha Legend Vintage 2001 in Torpedo a few seconds ago, and I must say that it was not up to the hype. The burn was inconsistant which I believe was due to the very veiny wrapper. The burn was ok until the first ash from there it constantly needed touch-ups. The flavor was very spicy and had a good amount of strength to it. Only one cut was needed to get a good draw.
Just about one of the best smokes I've had from CI... the first one I smoked out of the Plumpin' Premiums III sampler pack that arrived yesterday. Blew through about 4 chapters of my book out on the front porch with this one... and it was special. Great, even burn, and fine flavors. The chocolate and espresso notes were particularly noticeable and pleasing.
Great flavor. But I experience a hard draw and some wrapper issues.
This is a fine cigar; burned even and provided a nice smooth steady smoke throughout the entire length. I would recomend this stick to just about anyone that enjoys a med cigar.
This is a must try. Case closed. I promised one of the squad leaders in my platoon one when they came in, but as soon as I had my first stick I knew I messed up. Hands down one of the best cigars I've ever smoked. At first puff it kicked me to my seat with a rush of flavors and strength that mellowed out as it burned down, about the last 1/3 of the cigar it seemed like the rush was back for a great ending. Definitely set aside a good 45 minutes and smoke it slow, its well worth it
Gurkha is hands down my favorite brand. I've had so many Gurkhas in the past but somehow missed out on this one until recently. Had the double perfecto and I must say in my opinion this beats everything I've ever smoked even the centurian. Perfect mixture of slightly sweet tobacco with slight traces of mocha and somewhat nutty at times. Never harsh throughout the burn and didn't have any problems with construction. This one has simply made me a Gurkha man for life.
Simply an incredible cigar. A perfect medium flavor that is not spicy, too mild, or too strong. It burns evenly with a good draw and thick smoke. I found myself taking this one all the way down to the nub without even noticing a change in richness or thickness of the smoke. It's a very fulfilling cigar.
Got a 12 pack of the Anniversary (perfecto). These are my introduction to Gurkha. I've smoked 6 of them so far. The smoke output is tremendous, the flavors are unique. The first couple I smoked put off a sort of kerosene scent at first light, which troubled me. The last few have not had that issue. I am not very patient about letting my sticks sit, so maybe I rushed them a little. My only real complaint is the burn. Maybe it's my humidor, but when I get to the middle of the cigar (remember this is a perfecto) the outer wrapper loosens up, separates from the binder and stops burning. I find myself constantly touching them up. Next Gurkha's I buy will be a different vitola.
These are good cigars. The original Legend (now discontinued) are much better, but these are good too. As with all Gurkhas, don't pay MSRP for them, but when you see them on sale or thrown in as a freebie, jump on them.
This is one of my favorite cigars! I love the reddish hue, the nubby wrap of the cigar, and the aroma right out of the wrapper. I've never had a complaint smoking this around non-smokers. Also, after a slight rest in the humidor, these light perfectly and have an incredible draw that keeps you mesmerized. Consistency is never an issue, and the taste is truly 'creamy' with a mild to medium profile. Regardless of my lack of words to describe this cigar, it's one of the most unique sticks you'll ever smoke.
This is one of the best cigars I have ever smoked. From the prelight aroma, to the cool draw, construction, burn all textbook and the flavor is out of this world. It is somewhat out of my budget, and I can't smoke it everyday, but I will smoke it as often as I can. I can't get over how awesome this cigar is. Gurkha fan forever.
Right down to the nub on this one! Excellent Excellent flavor! What a finger burner, sharp straight burn never gets hot or bitter.
Bought this cigar during a Joe's Daily Deal and split it with a friend... what a mistake! I should have kept all 10 for myself. A true pleasure to smoke. Chocolate and coffee undertones, tasty wrapper, tons of flavor. I'm sure these won't last long in my humidor. Highly recommended!!!
