Gurkha Centurian Double Perfecto

Description

The timeless Gurkha classic.

This limited release is truly something special. Gurkha, of course, is the brand that’s widely hailed as one of the finest handmade cigars in the world, often called the “Rolls Royce of cigars.” And with the extremely limited, Special-Edition Centurian Double-EX, they may have outdone even themselves. In fact, this was originally made for the Sultan of Brunei - a cigar so limited and exclusive that it was commissioned specifically by one of the wealthiest men in the world for his own private consumption.

These cigars are hand-rolled from exquisite Cuban-seed ligero tobaccos grown in the Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic, aged 8 full years, and hugged by gorgeous, dark, silky Connecticut wrappers fermented to perfection. This combination imparts a rich, very creamy taste with just the slightest hint of spice, and a mellow, pleasant, yet remarkable burst of flavor on the finish. This Perfecto shape is intriguing, a thick 60-ring perfecto that carefully tapers at both ends. Due to the demands of the tricky shape and quantity of aged tobaccos used in each cigar, only the most experienced torcedors in the factory are allowed to make the size, resulting in unerring consistency and flawless construction.

This sale price is insane! There are few cigars priced past ten a stick that I find worth the money. This is ABSOLUTELY 1 OF THEM. I never miss a chance to buy when on sale. It hits on every mark. Burn. . . construction. . . taste! Top reviewers place this with the Cubanas of old. I wouldn't know at my age. I do know it's my. favorite. I've done a lot of them from Padron to Ashton and this one is where is at.

Had one that was rolled a little too tight had to do some work to get it to draw but the rest were just fine. It’s a medium bodied smoke good quality tobacco. Had a very nice aroma. I would say medium to slightly full range. The perfecto is a very nice shape for me. The wrapper looked really great very smooth.

The Gurkha Centurian Double Perfecto is one of Gurkha’s finest in my opinion. Smooth, easy draw producing thick clouds of smoke. Upon lighting, it gives off some creamy and baking spice notes. As it develops, it intensifies from a medium to more of a medium-full bodied strength. As you get to the thicker middle portion, that’s where this cigar really takes off. Flavor profile jumps to Cuban-esque, leather, toast and earthy notes with the creaminess and spice still lingering in the background. The Centurian finishes wonderfully, leaving me begging for more and anxiously awaiting the next time I fire up one of these beauties. The only reason for the 4-star review is because about 3 out of 5 Centurians I smoke (and there have been quite a few) require some touching up at some point during the smoke. If I were to ignore the burn quality, this smoke would receive a 6 out of 5 stars based on complexity, strength shifting qualities, and evolving tasting notes. Note of caution…unless you want/desire a head rush, eat something before enjoying this fine cigar, because…PHEW!!!

This cigar was part of my monthly cigar club sampler. After putting the sampler in my climate-controlled humidor for at least a week (at 72 degrees humidity and 68. 5 degrees Fahrenheit), I smoked one. It was very well constructed with good burn, but the last couple inches were a little uneven. It had a medium strength, a decent flavor, and was on the mild side of the spicy pepper spectrum, with more noticeable leather and earthy tones that I’m not a big fan of. Strength: 6 of 10 Construction: 5 of 5 Flavor: 3 of 5 Burn: 4 of 5 Smoke:4 of 5 I would accept this cigar as a gift and even say thank you. I would not buy them for myself.

She's skinny, she's thick, she's skinny again...but ohh man is she nice all around. Full Bodied smoke, with lots of Leather, and earthy Wooden notes. If she finished sweet, she'd be a perfect perfecto.

The burn was even throughout. The first and second part were nothing to write about but the last part had the most flavor and is about when the nicotine buzz kicks in.

I was able to try the Centurian when I bought a Gurkha sampler, and this was by far my favorite one of the bunch. It has a great taste and a quality wrapper with an easy draw. I did have to relight it once or twice, but the flavor definitely makes up for it. For a 1.5 hour smoke, these are definitely worth buying multiple times.

Tasty Ghurka product although I did experience a bad stick in that the wrapper seemingly shredded with difficulty maintaining a lit cigar…I surrendered the cigar but have others to enjoy!

Most good for the sale price, really like the flavor. The wrapper though.... I cut them close to the tip and still a few of them started to unwrap. Again, sale price made it worth it, would not pay the regular price due to this issue.

For starters I live the gurka line with amazing classics like titan and beauty with ranges of complex flavors, styles and quality. They are a brand that has an amazing range. This perfecto is beautifully made and everyone has been a solid smoke amazing shape and stays lit the whole time. What gets me for this one despite the amazing construction is what it's lacking in flavor. Hard to explain but just run of the mill cigar. Nothing horrible yet nothing miraculous either. I'd say if you want a solid perfecto that's well built give them a whirl as all palates are different.

Gurkha Centurian

Steve R
The Gurkha Centurian is not your every day cigar. Rather, it’s a special cigar for a special day. Let’s be honest, how often do you get the chance to enjoy a $30 cigar that was made exclusively for the Sultan of Brunei? In case you're wondering, Brunei Darussalam is an oil-rich country located in the island of Borneo, and the Sultan is not just the Sultan, he's also the country’s Prime Minister, Defense Minister and Finance Minster, aside from being one of the richest men alive.

To me, The Centurian is a must-have cigar, so I have a canister full of Centurians on hand - each is waiting its turn for a special day. Unless you overslept, last weekend was New Years, a perfect time to break open the canister and enjoy one of my all-time favorites. You can’t say enough about the look of this perfecto - a solid, 60 ring gauge double torpedo that’s packed with aged Cuban-seed Dominican long-fillers and sports a flawless Connecticut wrapper leaf that’s silky to the touch. Upon sparking up a full-flavored burst of spice and rich earthiness shifts my palate into overdrive. After my first few puffs my only thought is Cuban Bolivar. The rich Cuban-like earthiness put forth by this cigar is so smooth that I hardly notice the underlying strength that creeps on me. Word to the wise, do not smoke this while operating heavy machinery, on an empty stomach, pregnant or a few drinks over the limit. As the cigar enters its thickest point, it tends to mellow a bit, but continues to deliver a potpourri of flavor. Spicy, woody, earthy, toasty, rich, but always smooth. But give it time. Just as I start to recover from the mellow buzz, the cigar begins to taper into a full-bodied finish that’s loaded with creamy spice, giving new meaning to the phrase “go out with a bang”. Eventful from start to finish.

Gurkha’s Centurian is the reason why we become an enthusiast of fine cigars. Enjoying a cigar is a moment we look forward to and make plans for. Because of this, we are often disappointed, making the satisfaction of enjoying a perfect cigar, at the perfect time, much more meaningful. This cigar is an experience that I will continue to make plans for.

Gurkha Centurian

I reviewed this fine smoke some time back before we started "formally" reviewing cigars and I have to tell you, it's as good if not better than the very first one I ever tried. After speaking with Kaizad Hansotia (founder and blender behind Gurkha cigars) I was nearly foaming at the mouth to get my hands on one. In fact, the very moment these arrived at our warehouse I was opening boxes to find them and claimed the very first canister I came across as my own! That was nearly 3 years ago and since then I have lost track of how many Gurkha Centurians I have had the pleasure of enjoying.

So, why would I write another review on this cigar after 3 years? I'm glad you asked and better still, I'm going to tell you...

Over the years I've tried many "new releases" that were excellent cigars and I'm sure you feel the same way. The trouble is that often after the lot of tobacco used to create that first batch has been depleted, the factories and blenders are left with the daunting task of producing the cigar again the following year with different tobaccos while maintaining the strength and flavor of the prior year's blend. This often leads to disappointment because subsequent batches lose that something special that was in the blend the first time out. Not so with the Centurian! No way, no how, no doubt about it! Each and every Centurian that I have enjoyed from that very first to today is perfectly consistent in every way, from the burn to the construction to the intense Cuban-esque flavor that each imparts. Mellow off the start with a hint of spiciness, the Centurian slowly builds into a full-bodied and full-flavored cigar with a complexity and richness that rivals even the most sought after Cuban cigars. Year over year you won't find that kind of consistency in any Cuban cigar these days. Sure the price isn't anything to sneeze at but if quality, consistency and a superior blend of tobacco is what you’re after, look no further because your search is over!
