Unleash the Beast!
Known for offering some of the most prestigious and highly-rated blends in the world, Gurkha (the "Rolls Royce of cigars") continues to provide us with luxurious experiences. They will never sacrifice quality for price, and each cigar within his extensive arsenal further establishes Gurkha as one of the premier boutique brands on the market. Based on size alone, the Beast instantly grabs your attention. Crafted into a monstrous 6”x58 ‘beast,’ this intimidating handmade is a sight to behold.
Grown in Costa Rica, the wrapper is one of the most elusive of its kind. Aged for an absolute minimum of 8 years, this dark leaf is oily and toothy, cloaking a luxurious blend of Dominican, Honduran, and Colombian long-fillers bound by a flavorful Nicaraguan leaf. The result is an array of flavor, including hints of cocoa and wood, with a smooth, sweet finish that lingers after each puff. A soothing, satisfying cigar that burns slow and cool emitting a rich, crowd-pleasing aroma. Medium to full-bodied, the Beast is waiting.
Just tried one I had humi'd for about two months @ 68% RH. After being lit, it turned spongy, and had to be re-lit once and touched up twice. Flavor was slight, and the smoke plume was weak. Got it in a Gurkha sampler and Herf-a-dor special, and the "Beauty" sample was even far worse. Don't know how these other reviews are so glowing, but I'm reluctant to buy any more Gurkhas. and I'll pass on any future samplers that have one in it. There are plenty of excellent cigars in this price range, but Gurkhas aren't one of them, and in fact I don't know how they can GIVE them away. I ditched this one with 3" left on it....
Gurkha Beast had nice construction. Very nice Maduro wrapper. Pre-light sweet smell off wrapper and light chocolate smell from foot. Great amount of smoke and easy draw. Light spice and slight chocolate upon light up. Medium strength at best never changes during whole smoke. The taste also remains the same through whole smoke with slight spice added during final 3rd. Creamy coffee with very light chocolate that comes and goes. Long creamy finish. The Beast has a place but it would be limited to a quite night reading a book. It gets an 8 out of 10. Not my favorite Gurkha.
Just finished smoking my first Beast. At this point it is not my favorite. But it was a pleasant, interesting smoke. Did not burn evenly. But it satisfied the beast within. Sorry, bad pun. Received this as part of a sampler. I will not purchase this cigar on its own. But will not avoid a sampler because this cigar is included. One more left. Looking forward to the next. Just will not be tomorrow. :)
This is a terrific cigar! Definitely going to be one of my regulars when I can afford them or find a good deal!
I bought a box of the Gurkha Beasts and box of the Gurkha Status. The Status' have been great and consistent in wrapper quality and draw. Regarding the Beasts, I have 6 left and not one of them has brought me enjoyment. It's either a wrapper unraveling or little to no draw. I took them with me on a golf outing and my buddy, who I gave one to, still hasn't let it go and continues to razz me ever since. I must have gotten terribly unlucky as most of the other reviews were great. These are the only cigars from CI that were a disappointment.
I'm currently smoking my first Beast, a gift from a friend. Other than some uneven burning, there's not much to complain about, but not much to get excited about either. Definitely more mild than the CI description would make you think. I wouldn't refuse one if offered; it could be an option if I don't want something fuller, but in general I want more flavor. Think LFD Ligero. One last thing: I prefer to punch, not cut, but this Beast's draw was tighter than I like. If I smoke one again, I'm cutting it.
Gurkha Beast, what can I say it's one of the best! Like it's cousin Titan, Beauty, Magnum...enjoyable smoke.
I decided to light one of these up the day they arrived, and think I may have found a new favorite. This is honestly one of the best smokes I've ever had, and that's before they've even had time to rest in my humidor. I'll be keeping these around for special occasions.
I agree with the Cartersville, GA reviewer. This was a subpar cigar... Constructed poorly and one of the thinnest/ weakest wrappers ever! Damn thing basically came apart! Wonky burn and very flat tasting. Huge disappointment indeed.
This is a good complex smoke with plenty of spice and flavor. It's unique. Not sure how to describe but I think there's good balance and these are consistent throughout. The only issue I have is there does seem to be some issues keeping these lit. Not a big deal though....
So far no Gurkha has disappointed. So I decided to to try the Beast. To my delight it became one of my favorites! If you lean toward milder looking and tasting sticks, open your mind and give this a go! You'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner, at least in the Gurkha line. The flavor is not overpowering in the least, burns real cool yet smokes like you can't put it down. No issues here with the wrapper. This is one cool looking stick that will make you look like a seasoned yet sophisticated hard ass cigar aficionado!
This is a tasty one! Lots of thick smoke. A hint of sweetness. I did have burn problems, wanted to canoe all the way up. Maybe it was just this one. Ill buy again.
Got the Beast in a Sampler yesterday, Smoked it, Loved it, Just bought more...
I think these do not live up to the hype or price, thin wrappers, poor construction , weird burn, mild at best, wasted money on these will stick with diesel or 5 vegas. I paid 4$ a stick and would not buy again for 2$.
Disappointed, not much flavor, light pack, this is my third try with gurkha and I have yet to be impressed.
Oredereds up a box Varina Farms Breakfast Blend (a sure great smoke any time) and with the order, 2 Gurhka bundles of 20 each, and a free Xikar lighter : Beauty and the Beast at $49.99 a bundle. Great price but am I doing something wrong? Tried the Beauty first and wow to my supprise I could'nt keep it lit and the draw was terrible ! So I dry boxed them for a few days and in the meantime tried a few of the Beast's, SAME problem. After dry boxing the whole lot I can only say I won't waste my money on these again. Something must have gone wrong in the rolling! Learned my lesson the hard way. You get what you pay for....
Solid Gurkha offering. I've had about ten of them now. Solid construction and burn through all ten. Not a ton of flavor, but more than average. DEFINITELY more mild-medium than medium to full. Overall enjoyable. I would never buy a box of these, myself, but I'm certainly pleased if and when I get them as part of a sampler. Will gladly smoke again!
I've always been a fan of Ghurkas but not such a fan of maduros as they always seem a little mild and lack the bite that say a nice Cameroon cloaked cigar might provide. Regardless I have a had a few oily and lovely treats from some of the biggies Punch, Hoyo Del Monterey etc so I thought I'd give these a try as cigars I've had in the past like the Ghurka Centurion were delightful. I got this on the special recently and to say I was nonplussed is an understatement. This cigar is like smoking nothing. And no matter how hard I draw it's just too mild. Cool and easy yes. Medium to full?? WHAT?? C.I. always has the deals but I won't be back for this one.
It lives up to its name! Various spices that leave a pepper note. Smooth and tasty all the way to the nub.
Oh my what a great smoke. This is my favorite over all the others I've smoked. Can't go wrong with a cigar called "Beast"!
Just wonderful! Fabulous way to chill!
This cigar has a great flavor and is rich for a maduro cigar. The only cigar I've tried that compares to it is the Indian Tabac Maduro. Do not remove the huge label on the cigar before you smoke the cigar or you will peel off the top layer of leaf. The smaller label you can remove....Try this cigar. It is unlike any Gurkha cigar I have smoked. If you like CAO maduro cigars, you will love this Gurka Beast also.
Good Cigar. Not harsh. Tasted good... definitely on the MD side.
a very nice smoke! Gurkha does it again!! mine burned evenly and had no wrapper issues or other issues at all for that matter, even despite the fact that I was smoking it outside AND in the wind, so ....that's saying something. I like all types of cigars, from mild to full flavored, and everything in between, I love em all! I grabbed the Beast because I was having a craving for a more flavorful smoke, and it did not disappoint. BIG, bold flavors, but still remarkably smooth, which impressed me. Delicious. I have yet to try a Gurkha that I don't like. They are one of my go-to brands, it seems you just can't hardly go wrong when you choose a Gurkha cigar!!
Got a fiver of the Beast XO and let them recover from their trip in my humi for a week. Based on the other reviews I was expecting some really rich flavor and a decent amount of smoke, but was left disappointed. Flavors were sweet with hints of caramel and chocolate, but they didn't deepen or change much through out the smoke. Nicotine was really heavy considering the mellow flavors. I'm hoping the other four improve with more time in the humidor.
Great cigar. Top 5 in my book. Taste and burn are great.
I got one in a sampler. I just held it in my hand pondering this beauty for about two minutes before cutting and lighting. What an incredible smoke! If I were a really rich man, this would be my daily smoke!
I thought it was an excellent punch in the face cigar. It had a bold flavor that lasted and stayed consistent all the way through. That being said, I did have issues with it burning unevenly. All in all a good cigar. I'll have to let my next one age a bit in my humidor.
Had my first "Beast" sitting by a fire with friends tonight. I can say this....NICE! Really good smoke, had to relight once, but other than that no complaints. Good burn, long burn, good body, plumes of smoke. Nice spice, earth, and cream. Yum.
First time trying this cigar I wasn't impressed, but after I let them sit in the humidor for 2 weeks they came alive with flavor. I bought them on special $ 4.00 a piece. cant afford $ 30 to $40 dollar cigars. thanks CI for the opportunity to try this one. well worth $4.00.
I really like this cigar in the XO and regular size but the Salomon seems to be a difficult smoke. I had one tonight and had to end it early with wrapper issues. At its best, the Beast is a very smooth mild to medium with chocolate & carmel flavor.
The "Beasts" arrived! Humidified overnight to settle them down from the overland express. Parked myself with favorite wash down drink. Cut a sliver off the end & settled into lighting the 60 ring. WOW! Inch #1 gave me an appetite for Beef Tartar. Could it get any better? Inch #2 was pure "meaty". Inch #3 perfect vitamin N buzz, consistency, density, burn, & smoke. Ultimately fulfilling Dominican 20 years ago deja vu. Just got to settle them down & store them without comingling to bring out the best they have to offer. A truely GREAT cigar!
