Big Willy Style....
Welcome Herrera Esteli cigars, the newest addition to join the ranks of Drew Estate's massive portfolio. As with the Liga and Undercrown lines, Herrera Esteli further solidifies Drew Estate's presence in non-infused, traditional cigars. This time, the story starts with Willy Herrera. He was a tobacco guru at the famed El Titan de Bronze factory in Miami, responsible for some of the most sought after and highly-rated handmades around. And once he combined forces with Drew Estate, he took like a duck to water. What you see here is the result of sampling and tweaking dozens upon dozens of blends, and the final process is as close to perfection as you can get. From the vintage Cuban-esque bands to the cabinet style box, Herrera Esteli screams Cuba. And the glue sealing the whole thing together is the blend. Oh-so-creamy, yet highly representative of Cuban cigars of old. It's got some oomph, but the flavors are delivered in such a velvety fashion the power is beautifully masked. Crisp, clean notes of spices, cedar, cream, and roasted nuts are the backbone, as occasional hints of white pepper and semi-sweet vanilla weave masterfully throughout. Initial puffs foreshadow a medium-bodied profile, but the slow burn begins to unveil a different story, as it inches toward a medium to full-bodied crescendo. If the Liga Privada series is a cup of black coffee, Herrera Esteli is without a doubt the "with cream" option. A handmade of the highest caliber, Herrera Esteli is going to turn some heads. In addition to multiple 93-ratings, Herrera Esteli received a well-deserved 94-rating as well as Top 25 honors for 2014, #8 overall. The panel noted: "medium body, with notes of spice—both earthy and sweet—and a long, long finish."
NOTE: Herrera Esteli recently received a packaging update and is now called Herrera Esteli Habano. Check out the new packaging here.
Grew up on Drew Estates cigars and have always been a fan. Liga Privada T52 has always been my favorite until now. Smoked my first Herrera Estelli this morning and loved it! Great draw with consistent oak notes from start to finish, a real treat. Excellent smoke for anyone with discerning tastes. Priced right, too.
FANTASTIC......this smoke is 100% worth the money. It is a full body, full flavour cigar that will not disappoint. I only smoke premium cigars and just tried this cigar for the first time a little while ago(mostly because I don't really like Drew Estate cigars), but this smoke is FANTASTIC and worth every penny. GO FOR IT.
*BUYER BEWARE* I have noticed several of these that I have ordered have burst/cracked wrappers, I have ordered them in the robusto & belicoso vitolas. They are stored in cello with several other cigars in a properly humidified humidor. These are the only ones that are suffering these defects. Important to note, not all of the Herrera Esteli's in my humi are suffering this fate...only about a 1/2 dozen out of 14 that I have. I dissected one of the damaged ones looking for beetles or larvae with none found. Just wanted to give folks a heads up as these are far from cheap cigars...tasty, but I will not be buying anymore of these.
I previously posted a favorable review after trying a couple toros. I've now tried every vitola available for this cigar and have found them all to be spectacular from construction to burn to draw to abundant smoke to flavor. The Limited Edition lancero is the best in the stable. If you can still find any, do yourself a favor and buy em up. Obviously, every palate is different, but for me this is the perfect Nicaraguan smoke. Paired with a sipping rum it cannot be beaten. Hail Willy Herrera.
The aroma is very enticing by itself. The flavor is excellent. It burns even and is well constructed. Herrera Esteli is a great cigar, one of Drew Estate's best.
This is an awesome stick. Very rich in pepper. Beautiful construction, perfect draw and lovely thick creamy smoke.
Only downside is the price. If this was a $6 it would be my staple.
I took a few of these (in robusto) on a camp trip recently and what a wonderful cigar. Builds in flavor through the cigar to a solid medium-full. Very thick and creamy smoke with a perfect burn and true white ash! This cigar is probably my new favorite natural wrapper cigar... Give it a whirl you wont be dissapointed.
I'll admit that I'm a relative newcomer to the cigar world. That being said, I had read some great reviews on this stick and finally got tired of reading and decided it was time to have a draw. The robusto I tasted had a taste of spice all the way through and an creaminess that went perfect with the glass of bourbon I was sipping. I think next time I'll be buying atleast a 5 pack.
If you like a medium to medium full Nicaraguan this should be your go to smoke. Easy draw, even burn and great flavor. Gonna stock up on these so I'll have plenty....
This is my new go to cigar! Drew Estate never disappoints and the Herrera Esteli is in a league of its own!
Smoked The Beliciso, It's Not As Strong As Advertised A Good Cigar Not Great. Would Buy A 5-Pack For Every Now And Then, But Not A Box.:)
As an unabashed lover of all Drew Estate infusion cigars I wanted to "branch out" and try a non flavored stick. Many other cigars always left me wanting to return Drew Estate. Maybe I am not really a true cigar smoker. But I never cared what the purists thought about my love for flavored cigars, anyway. When I found that the Herrera Esteli came from my favorite maker I gave them a shot.
I smoked this cigar down to the very end from the first light up. This is a fantastic cigar with all kinds of flavors that I am not qualified to elaborate on (given my history with flavors). Mild and pleasant and packed with a delicious taste is all I can come up with on the Herrera Esteli.. The burn is perfection to the point where you will think that you have to tap it before you know that eventually it will be on either you or on the floor. I love this smoke! And I never thought I'd love a non flavored cigar as much as this one.
Once fired up you'll just have to finish it to the nub: no matter where you're at.
Try this one! You'll be surprised.
Great smoke, very tastey, Can't seem to go wrong with Drew Estate.. Thank You CI.. JB Sr
Herrera Esteli Robusto. Price has been the issue keeping me from hitting this cigar. The cigar looks great, feels great. Great draw, ash, smoke output, and it's so nice to enjoy a cigar from first light. Smoooooooooooth! Creamy, rich mouth feel with a little refreshing palate zing. flavors: the smoke hits me like a cool drink of water, as it exits my mouth it leaves behind a gift of mild white pepper spice and a complex mélange of everything that's good in a cigar. I don't retrohail often, but I did try it with this cigar. It left me with a teary eyed kiss on the nose, and thank you mam may I have another feeling. About 1" in and I finally got an identifiable taste of honey, yes honey (not Honey Booboo). 1/3 in and well so much for perfection, first issue is a wrapper split and the need to relight. 1/2 way point and back on track with the draw, flavors are now a quality tobacco earth and leather. Very nice, but not sold on the price point at this time. overall, a fine cigar. The price is still the sticking point for me, at $5 it's boxworthy and then some. However, at $7-8 I'd stay on the sidelines. For a B&M $9+ is a good price to enjoy a fine smoke in a cigar lounge.
Surprised I'm the first to write a review on this great cigar! To start, wow, what a great draw from head to foot, as well as a hint of cedar and spice from the start, followed by creaminess throughout. If you are a skeptic about Drew Estate look no further, you have found a great all around cigar that isn't infused like some of the other lines. A must try!
It's a Drew Estate cigar for sure! It's amazing.
