CAO Moontrance Pipe Tobacco

Purchased from CI and shipped jiffy quick. This tobacco is advertised as an aromatic blend of Cavendish and Virginia. Flavoring is vanilla, citrus and bourbon. Upon opening the tin (takes a bit of work) the aroma is indeed of vanilla and citrus. Definitely a loose cut tobacco that has above average moisture. Packing was okay, yet this tobacco burned extremely hot for me. Char light was hot and every relight ended 5 minutes later with me setting the pipe aside to cool off (Savinelli Bing Rusticated). The first time I thought it was a poor packing job but after the 4th bowl and the same issue, I realized this one can burn real hot. That cost it a full ratings point. The smoking experience is indeed smooth as advertised, yet the flavors didn't come thru for me on this one, so that cost another half ratings point due to the fact it is a premium priced tobacco. No bite experience at all, so that was a blessing. Room note is indeed balanced - almost not there for an aromatic. As a high-end premium tobacco, I expected some kind of wonderful room note but that just didn't materialize, so I knocked off another half point on that score. Bottom line: this is a high-end (cost wise, at least) pipe tobacco that under performed IMHO. At $5.70 per ounce, it is well above competitors that are less than half the price (Lane 1-Q, Mac Baren 7 Seas Royal, CB, Lane TK-6, etc.) that offer a much cooler smoking experience, no bite, well balanced flavors and superior room notes. For me, this was a bust. Won't buy it again, don't recommend it on the basis of price versus smoking experience. Sorry, not a moon shot and not something to become enchanted over. 3 stars is being generous.

Always loved the cigars, now it is even better. The flavor is great! It is definately a lighter blend but still holds up.

Great pipe tobacco

This is one of my favorite tobaccos. Mild and pleasantly aromatic

Its ok. When I first saw that this was a 'exotic fruit + bourbon vanilla' I thought, "wow, thats different. Maybe a bit too much" and frankly I was too much. Its a good tobacco, I just don't really like the flavor. Will not like buy again.

I am disappointed with the tobacco as far as taste, actually, very little taste. The cigars are great, and I will have to admit, it does smell better than the cigar, yet, disappointed with the pipe tobacco, I doubt that I buy it again.

Moontrance takes me back to the glory days of tobacco stores in the local mall! It taste like those stores smelled! Great flavored cigar.

I love CAO Moontrance cigars. Seeing the reviews, I decide to purchase two tins of the Moontrance pipe tobacco. I tried smoking the tobacco last couple days and it was very dry, more than it should of been and it had no flavor at all. I was hoping the flavor was going to be like the cigars but was very disappointed. Don't know what the problem was but I will not be purchasing again. I smoke my pipes daily and can't remember having a bad batch of anything. I don't blame CI, I guess it happens sometimes that one will get a bad batch.

I am a big fan of the CAO Moontrance. I don't smoke pipe very often, but this is one of my go-to aromatic blends. It is mellow and sweet with a fantastic room note. I appreciate the sweet, fruity characteristic alongside the more subtle undertones of whiskey. It is a very easy aromatic blend to smoke!

I've been a premium cigar smoker for years but recently wanted to start breaking out my pipe more often. I figured since I really enjoy CAO cigars and get nice flavors out of them I would start there with the pipe tobacco. Moontrance to me smells like spiced raisins and some kind of liquor out of the tin but it tastes and smells better once you light it up. I get a bit of potpourri (in an ok way, its not my favorite flavor but it's not offensive either) flavor but my favorite is sort of a blueberry pie filling flavor that hits the back of your tongue when you take gentle puffs. The smoke is wonderfully delicate, smokes quite well (never gets too hot or has any burn issues, no tongue bite either) but has just enough flavor and hints of sweetness to really enjoy. I barely have anything left at the bottom of the bowl when it doesn't want to stay lit anymore. So almost nothing goes to waste, which is great. I'm sure I will find tobaccos that I will like better down the road but I will definitely be smoking the rest of this tin and wouldn't be surprised if I re-order in the future. I also plan on trying some of the other CAO products like the Black and several other brands that are highly reviewed on the internet. Beginner pipe smokers I recommend this to. Especially if you are around your lady. Mine wanted to try it when I told her about it and she actually really liked it. *smoked in a Keyser Hygienic purchased in the RSA.

I had tried the CAO moon trace cigar and everyone loved the smell. I figured it would be a even better aroma from pipe and wasn't disappointed
