Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva

The Original Masterpiece

There’s a time and a place for risk taking....like Vegas, for example. And then there’s a time and place where you just want a guaranteed outcome, like after a long, hard day of bringing home the bacon. When it comes to consistency, Arturo Fuente is just like winning the lottery every single day – consistent quality, consistent flavor, consistent construction. It’s the cigar equivalent of how your spot on the couch somehow manages to feel exactly the same no matter how many times you sit on it. Quite simply the Arturo Fuente cigars review all read the same way, “This cigar is great, its my favorite cigar in the world, buy now.”

Need a little more info? Made with African Cameroon, Connecticut Shade, or Ecuador Sungrown wrappers, Arturo Fuente cigars are well-made, mellow to medium in body, and beautifully constructed. Looks, personality, dependability....if only they could cook your dinner, you wouldn’t need much else in this world. If you need a size recommendation, the Arturo Fuente 858 has been one of the best-selling options for years.

Finally, after years of waiting, the Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva core line has received a 90-rating for the Maduro, noting: "dark chocolate and licorice notes... it's balanced by a medium-bodied base of almonds and wood."

A long enjoyable smoke with a nice buzz!
This was second Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva and it was a smooth smoke. I enjoyed my cigar with a few friends and this cigar lasted over 2 1/2 hours. The last half-inch was a bit warm, I used a golf tee to hold the end. Looking forward to another!

Fuente cigar brand.
I bought at CI a box of Churchill 7.2 x 48 Cameroon wrapper. Its nice to count on stability pertaining cigars brands. Arturo Fuente stand on in the consistent delivers of good tobacco leaves. Roll, draw, burn are extremely well cover at the Fuente cigars brand. These Churchill is a flavorful medium smoke.

Cherry popped
This was my first candela so I just wanted to share. First taste before lighting was a pleasantly sweet. First draws were very mild. When I got about halfway through though, the not so subtle taste of grass or hay started coming out. I have others on the way, and like I said this one popped my candela cherry. I will somke again and possibly update this.

Pleasurable smoke
Started out with Fuentes a few years ago and enjoy a Padron every now and then. After the Fuente theft in Florida last year I was getting some that were sub par. Can’t explain why but quality was lacking. The last thing I want to do is futz with my cigar trying to keep it from going out or coming apart when I want to sit back and relax with a tasty smoke. Had a Fuente from a local wine and spirit warehouse and it was A+ so I decided on a 5 pack still not wanting to trust a whole box. I must say the 8-5-8 was a delight. I smoke them in the summer because the winter I go to the shorter smokes due to the cold. I’m hoping the quality is consistent now cause I like to alternate with the Padrons.

Arturo Fuente Spanish Longsdale
Arturo Fuente is a great smoke for the money. That said, it’s no La Flore Dominican but for the price it’s a good quality cigar. As always CI delivers the freashness.

Product and Transaction Review
I have tried many Cigar Brands over the years and the Arturo Fuente's Line of Cigars have to be my favorites. My daily cigar are the Exquisitos, but I have enjoyed the entire line-up of Fuente's and in my opinion, in taste and quality they carry the torch for everyone else. Moving on to my choice in dealers. Once again over the years I have tried many dealers. I find all the dealers, during the season, run out of specific lines of product. I live close by to a Cigar Warehouse where I find a well stocked inventory and very dependable service. Saying that, I find in listening to them during the visits that Cigars International is the consistent, most reliable On Line Source. Other than product in short supply, with years of service experience, I have yet to experience my first complaint with their products or services. CI is my "GO TO" On Line Source.

Sit back and enjoy
The Privada #1 is a Cameroon wrapped Churchill that is a smooth, easy drawing cigar. being a Churchill it will take a bit to finish so make sure you have the time to enjoy it, very even burn, wonderful aroma, and no bite. pairs well with a Oban 14 single malt. try one you will not regret it. enjoy

Chewy, flavorful
These tasty cigars are absolutely perfect for after dinner with a glass of wine. They are rolled rather soft and produce volumes of smoke/ flavot. I noticed hints of leather, almond and wood. A delicious smoke.

Arturo Fuente cigars are always an excellent choice. The Curlyhead Deluxe is among their among their "economy " cigars, but smokes and tastes like one of their premiums. A great buy and a great smoke.

Excellent short smokes
I really enjoy these short smokes. They have great flavor and are perfect for quick enjoyment. I’ve noticed they tend to need a relight just before smoking to band, but no matter—the flavor is not to missed (or shortened).

The Arturo Fuente Exquisito... an excellent smoke!
The Arturo Fuente Exquisito is my cigar of choice and has been since it was introduced. I absolutely LOVE it. Everyone I have handed one to for the first time has been surprised by its flavor and also the convenience of a smaller cigar. Even novice cigar smokers have commented on how good and smooth it tastes and how cool it smokes. The flavor consistently lasts until it is down to the nub.

Arturo Fuentes /Curlyhead dluxe Maduro
A good smoke, and for the price,a HELLUVA good smoke! Arturo Fuentes been doing it consistently right for years, some versions better than others.U can usually tell them apart,by taste as well as price. However they ALL have one Common denominator! The original Fuentes blend!Present in the CurlyHead, as well as their more expensive names. And thats the long+short of it.Nothing tastes as well as an A. Fuentes.........except another A.Fuentes.

Thought they were ok was expecting more flavor. I wanted the maduro wrappers and order the wrong ones.....Next time I guess?

A fine small cigar.
The Exquisitos with the maduro wrapper are a first class cigar.Although a small cigar, I can count on a 35 to 40 minute smoke. The quality is consistently excellent.

Dry and Old Curlyhead's
My box of Curlyhead cigars was very dry and almost unsmokable. I new that when I put the cigars in my humidor that after a few days the wrappers would split. Wahlaa, quess what happened. I will not order curlyhead"s again. I gave it a 2 star instead of a 1 star because Arturo Fuents are good cigars.

This was my second experience with Arturo Fuente and it didn’t disappoint. They are the perfect size for a quick, tasty smoke. A great choice when you don’t have 45-60 minutes to spend on a smoke.

Favorite any day Cigar
This cigar has the right size, creamy smoke, easy draw, earthy flavor of cigars twice the price. You will not find a better constructed cigar that holds it’s ash and even burn. Been the go to cigar for over a decade and will be for foreseeable future.

BAD BATCH OF CURLYHEADS
I have been smoking cigars for over forty years and have had numerous boxes of Fuentes, many of which were Curlyhead Deluxe. I swear this batch was counterfeit. Chopped filler and poorly wrapped. I am supremely disappointed and I hope it was just a fluke.

i like arturo fuente cigars
I buy a box of the 858s per month. I love this cigar obviously. as I have gone through many many boxes, my only regret is that every box seems to contain 3-5 per box that don't seem to have the same pull on them or just of a lesser quality than the rest or the box. I find that to be curious.

CI Services and Product
Unlike other Cigar Business that try to pressure into purchases with their GREAT PRICING THRU MEMBERSHIPS, that by the way are no better prices than CI Prices, then they set you up with regular shipments that they force you to take to keep your MEMBERSHIP active. At CI you get great service, great pricing, and great product without all the Drama. Thank You CI !

Simply Put My Favorite
I've smoked many brands and styles over the last 40 years and enjoy many. If I could only pick one it would be the Arturo Fuente Candelas. I suppose their unique, mild, grassy flavor is so appealing to me somehow. Unlike anything else on the market. Try one you might be surprised.

Quick medium bodied smoke with flavor!
Smooth little smoke, great for about 25min's. Lots of flavor, even down to the nub!
4 out of 5
Good MOR stick
It's about the right ring gauge to balance the filler with the Cameroon wrapper and come up with a fairly medium weight and enjoyable but not complex cigar. My buddy who likes them strong would say this one is like kissing your sister, but it goes good with a beer, a scotch, or a cup of coffee.

Flavor consistent with finer cigar
Flavor consistent with finer cigar leaf. Fires well throughout. Mild but robust aromatics.

The perfect size for when there's no time for a full-sized smoke. And the flavor is typical Fuente. All in all, Muy Bueno.

The Arturo Fuente Exquisitos Maduro are great if you're short on time but still want to have a good cigar.

Great Stick
These are great sticks. I burn about one or two of these a day. A nice medium taste. Burn time is shorter than I'd like so might have to try some robustos.

Candela - Mild but still good flavor!
I attended a cigar event hosted by Arturo Fuente reps. They recommended the Candela and Madura 8-5-8 for a mild but flavorful experience. I must admit, I agree after tasting them both, but I do like the slightly sweeter edge of the Candela. Great value!

Powerhouse little smoke!!!
The Arturo Fuento Exquisito Maduro cigar is a nice little powerhouse cigar when you don't have time to sit down for an hour to smoke a larger cigar!! It packs a ton of flavor into 20 minutes of pure bliss!! I highly recommend these little firecrackers for a quick fix when your short on time and lets face it the weather will be getting cold real soon!!!

Refreshing
I am still fairly new to cigar brands, but found a certain fondness for this brand. I am currently overseas, in Italy, and after 10 months, I got to have these again, courtesy of CI. I have missed how much I enjoyed some Arturo Fuentes cigars, and to rely on you guys for supplying me my favorite brand has made things worth while. Thanks. Loving the 8-5-8s!

Not a bad stick
AF has been the gold standard in recent years, but maybe they are getting too big to manage their quality effectively. 858 used to be a great smoke but I think lower quality tobacco is being used these days to meet demand, and it is sad. Not bad, just not what it used to be a decade ago.

A great smoke anytime of the day. My go to cigar.

Arturo Fuente Curley Head
the Curley Head is not the best cigar in the world, but it is one of the best inexpensive cigars in the world. I have never been disappointed by this cigar's construction or the enjoyment of smoking one. They have been a 25 year long presence in my humidor. The Fuente brand is my personal smoke of choice as I love Dominican tobaccos.

A. F. Corona Imperial delicate enjoyment...
A truly fine quality cigar that must be handled carefully because of its softly hand rolled construction, you cannot grip this cigar but rather hold it in your fingertips and sip the smoke from this wonderfully tasting cigar. Even burning, unstable ash because of it's construction so be careful, but worth the effort.

Arturo Fuente 8-58-8's
Pros: This is my favorite cigar. For me it is the right length ring and intensity. I prefer the Natural wrapper. I purchase this cigar more than any other form CI. Cons: Frequently the cigar band won't come off the cigar without tearing the wrapper, this cigar is also prone to the wrapper coming loose or splitting open.

I have enjoyed the 8-5-8 Flor Fina Maduro so wanted to try this Hemmingway Maduro. I enjoy the bolder flavor and although a quick smoke, size and ring centric, this Maduro did not disappoint. Fine cigar, much in flavor, and as with all Fuente cigars, top shelf construction!

Unbelievable Smoke
Incredible cigar! This is by far my favorite cigar and my go-to in my humidore. The order was shipped and arrived very quickly. The cigars were in perfect condition and begging to be lit! Expect a medium flavored, slow burning, smooth draw of a smoke! Makes my mouth water thinking about it! Tip of the cap Arturo!

Good cigar, affordable.
I bought these as a fill in smoke and was not disappointed. Although on the mild end of the spectrum, where I prefer full bodied cigars, this has a good flavor and is very smooth.

Heaven
Didn't really enjoy cigars but the guys would smoke them when we got together. Then a good friend gave me an Arturo Fuente petite corona. Wow, thoroughly enjoyed it down to my fingers. Turns out the reason I didn't like cigars that much was I was smoking lousy cigars. The Fuente brand is the one I stuck with, why change when you find a winner. The Hemingway's are very flavorful and I enjoy those. Also enjoy the regular corona's too. You can't go wrong with any of the Fuentes, the Anejo's are pricey but on occasion I treat my good friend and myself.

Latest Order
The entire experience in dealing with you was excellent The price of your cigars is reaching the "tipping" point. I am aware of your problem with taxes but I very seldon buy a Fuente cigar. Used to buy them by the boxes.......................
4 out of 5
Not bad, there's better
This is a fairly strong stick. Construction is Good not great. To be honest if you can afford the more expensive Fuente cigars then skip over this one, if not browse some different brands. Before you jump on a box, try a single stick from a local shop.

Just great!
Just a fabulous fly-fishing cigar. You can never go wrong with a Fuente.
5 out of 5
Good, affordable cigar.
Very good for the price. Mellow, mild, seldom hot. About one or two cigars per box is w tapped too tight and will not draw. About 3 cigars per box will get bitter for some of of the smoke. The above notwithstanding, still a good deal.

Best of the candelas/claros on the market

Disappointing Decline in Flavor
Very noticeable decline in quality of both flavor and construction recently. Not sure what's going on at AF, but the most recent offerings appear to be a shadow of their former quality. They have completely lost the AF flavor profile and burn. Very disappointed as this was my "go to" daily smoke.

Arturo Fuente 8-5-8 Maduro
I've only smoked one out of the 5-pack I purchased. It was a good cigar in flavor with a hint of sweetness. The burn had a hard draw though.

Arturo is my favorite
Everything about this purchase was great! The price was excellent for cigars as well as the freshness. Looking forward to my next purchase.
3 out of 5
Consistent build, lacking blend, ho-hum taste
Good construction, nice easy draw, all were very consistent, well made. The blend on the other hand was lacking any complexity, pretty much leather and tobacco from start to finish, medium to mild body, medium burn, loosely packed. Was just OK, quality made, but no kick, good for beginners or ladies

Go-to cigar
The Fuente Spanish Lonsdale has been one of my go-to cigars for years. Always consistent burn, construction and outstanding flavor. Plus it's an excellent value.

My every day Smoke
I was looking for a every day smoke and the Arturo was just what I was looking for. The cigar was to tight of a draw when cut with cuter, put that was solved by using a punch.
3 out of 5
Uneven burn and wrapper separation.
As a whole i like the selection , however i was some what disappointed with the freshness of some of the Arturo Fuentes. The wrapper came off right after lighting the cigar and another did not burn evenly. I think i may still order from CI and believe this was a rare occurrence. Robert C.

Try a Candela
I love this cigar. I don't know how many other brands I have smoked but this is probably my very favorite. The candela wrapper is a bit delicate and the band usually cracks it when removed, but that is my only complaint. The flavor is unique, well balanced with creamy smoke and a very pleasing experience. I've smoked at least 100 of these babies over the years and they are always consistently good. I wish candelas got more attention. I do like Connecticuts and Maduros as well.

3 out of 5
A good smoke with an unfortunate flaw.
I purchased a 5 pack of the 8-5-8 Candela and they are good smoke. They have good flavor, a lot of good smoke, good construction, and burn evenly. The big issue for me is the adhesive application on the ring. I have smoked two of the five and the glue used to adhere the ring on both has also adhered the ring to the wrapper so removing the ring has resulted in tearing the wrapper. This is disappointing for an otherwise very good cigar.

The 10 year old wrapper tells the story. This is one hell of a quick smoke. Med-full bodied. Makes you wonder what a corona would taste like.

excellent knock around smoke
This is a spicy batch with a light body and notes of fresh ground pepper, also a pleasant earthiness. Don't know if the next box will taste the same or different, interesting smoke, somebody somewhere would pay good money for this kind of taste.

4 out of 5
OK Dependable Smoke
I like the minis or petite coronas rather than the robusto, etc. It's an "okay" cigar, very well put together, very dependable on taste, draw, burn. As a social "security" old vet curmudgeon, I have to buy in 5 packs. I compare these to J C Newman's maduro Quorums -- which, for lesser price and (in my opinion) slightly more enhanced taste (slight wrapper sweetness, subliminal cafe, tiny bit of spice -- though bland spice). Quorums will be replacing the 8-5-8s in the humidor. As a once farrier and horse equine tack maker, I've never found what this "leather" flavor is! And "earth"? I never did (even in Nam) eat dirt, intentionally.

I have always loved these. A medium bodied cigar that is perfect for all occasions. The 8-5-8s are very consistent with an abundant amount of smoke and flavor. Definitely a keeper......I won't be throwing any of these back!

First time buyer
This was my first experience buying cigars online. Actually, I'm not a veteran cigar smoker, but I enjoy the novelty of it. The Arturo Fuente Churchill was a great first choice. A nice mild smoke that didn't overwhelm and welcomed me back.

I thought the cigar had a tough draw and was not a very even burning cigar, I would not buy them again.

Best Fishing Cigar
I fish Bass tournaments all over the area and when I do, there is only one cigar I carry in my boat......Fuente 858 Maduro. I need a cigar that will hold up while I fish with both hands and hold the cigar in my mouth. Most cigars will deteriorate and I can not stand constantly having to spit out cigar wrappers.

I enjoyed the Fuentes but they are not as good as they used to be. I recently ordered partagas and think they are better
Customer Testimonials
These are all strong cigars despite the description. They are excellent, but be aware you may go down for the count if not a seasoned smoker.
The Double Chateau is one of my favorite cigars and in my opinion, the best offering from AF for the money. These cigars are very smooth from start to finish and are complimented with any beverage from a nice single malt to coffee after dinner. This is one cigar that everyone should try at least once.
Always a favorite every day smoke for me. A lighter smoke for summer time. Even draw and tastes great. Consistent box after box.
Ok, I try many cigars, and by far Arturo Fuente has impressed me the most from the humidifier package on the box to the cigars themselves. Great smoke, consistent burn, and great taste. I'm glad I got them. I'll be buying more in the future.
I had the A. Fuente Grand Reserve and it was a smooth taste with a rich smell. I originally thought b/c of the dark roast of the wrap it was going to be a full taste with a tobacco after taste, but none whatsoever. Love it.
I haven't had a FUENTE I didn't like yet. Every one has been perfect from the construction to the burn. Can't get enough; keep them coming please.
The 8-5-8 is THE cigar that made me a cigar smoker. I'm a maduro smoker, but the Natural wrapper is just as good on to me on this one. Also, for a cheap stick, the Curlyhead Deluxe Maduro is my go to.
Smooth and enjoying stick; A stoggie that you can enjoy whether you are on the golf course or just chillin' in your backyard.
The most reliable 1st class smoke.
This is my standard smoke at the house or the golf course. They are my standing order. 4*
Great smoke. Quality build, even burn, nice mild strength. I absolutely love smoking these and wish I had a bigger humidor so I could store a whole box.
The Cameroon was my taste. Not smooth, medium body with a harsh tobacco finish. Not great. (3/10)
Very good cigar. Will be ordering more of these. Super smooth!
A really good 20 minute cigar for the price. My wife doesn't let me smoke in the house and, let's face it, it gets really hot in Texas this time of year. So I can enjoy a really good cigar in a short time with a great price too.
The Arturo Fuente 8-5-8 and Cuban Corona are undisputed masterpieces, but to me the unsung hero of the Gran Reserva series is the Exquisito, the cigar that made me a lifelong Fuente loyalist in the first place. This little cigarillo packs all the power, nuance, & complexity of the Gran Reserva blend into its tiny 4.5 x 33 frame, and in my estimation it — along with the slightly larger Punch Bolo— are the best small cigars money can buy. Like the Bolo, the Exquisito is a perfect scaled-down representation of the series as a whole. Try it in either the natural Cameroon or the maduro Broadleaf wrapper — you won't be disappointed. It's basically a 25-minute synopsis of the Fuente Churchill. It is THAT good.
Really like the Cheteau Madura
The cigar has hints of wet dog, yes, Thats the word that comes to mind when i light one up. They should have called it Labrador.
Breva royale: I bought these on a whim. They were easy light easy draw but left a lot for want of a decent cigar. First third gives a ashen after-taste and the last 2/3 are harsh and short on flavor. I will stick with the 8-5-8s if I chose Fuentes again.
Great cigar! Good construction, even burn, great flavor. I ordered a five pack of the maderos. First one I smoked had my heading spinning when I got through with it. The second one I just finished up smoking after it had been in my humidor for a couple of weeks. I smoked it down to the nub! Delicious cigar!
I've always been a Arturo Fuente fan. I like the 8-5-8. Always know it will be a quality cigar finely constructed.
Great taste! It came fresh and fast!
Found cigars a pleasurable smoke, but, they burned very uneven.
I normally lean towards more budget end cigars, but my local shop was out of my staple. However, they were having a New Years sale so I decided to go on a palate adventure with some nicer cigars. I ended up smoking two of these that day. The time after I bought a couple more, then decided to just take home the remaining nine. Very nice construction, burns evenly, great taste, nice smell. I'll be ordering a box of these when there's room in my humidor.
One of my long-time faves for almost two decades: Maduro Canone. A 2-3 hour smoke! Recently, smoke it less as I gravitate to stronger Nic offerings. But still a treat whenever I burn one! This one NEVER disappoints!
8-5-8 Natural or Maduro are one of my favorite sticks. Long ashes my friends.
I am new to cigar smoking, but i loved these. If this is cigar smoking, then I am hooked. Arturo Fuente for me.
I am probably in for the same flogging as Steve-O. I just finshed my third sample of the Fuente Chateau Robusto. First, I have to say this cigar has a bit more strength to it than some Fuentes I have had, and the flavor was pretty decent. Here are the "buts"... But, there was a grassiness that I did not enjoy. But, it was a one-note cigar; I did not get any real evolution in the flavor other than some unpleasant bitterness in the last third. Not too exciting. I will say that it was a solid medium-bodied blend, great burn and draw, and had an okay flavor profile....
This is one of my favorite
Love this smoke. The Chateau Fuente Maduro is a fabulous cigar. I have enjoyed them for many years. The only possible thing that could be better are the old double Maduro's, but those are a thing of the past. Enjoyable smoke vs. value Arturo Fuente is among the best. Get a few, relax and enjoy. A perfect companion to a nice Small Batch Bourbon.
The candela 8-5-8 is a gem, super mild with that fire cured taste that is unique to this type of wrapper. A bit expensive but worth extra coin.
Every Thursday after work, I go to the humidor and reach for the Rothschild Maduro. I grab my flask full of Jameson and take a drive to the beach.... do at your own risk. This smoke is a great week wind me down, full of spices and a leathery blend that lasts right to the nub. This, my friends is heaven, of course till the wife starts calling, but that half hour is fantastic. I highly recommend the Fuente Maduro if you appreciate a full flavored lip numbing smoke. The finer things in life.....
I have smoked quite a few of the Arturo Fuente cigars and to be honest with you I really don't see what all the excitement is with their cigars. Don't get me wrong, I like them and don't have anything bad to say about them well maybe one thing, (I do feel they are a little over priced). I really don't see why everyone puts them in such high admiration, sure they are a nice smoke with good taste and made exceptionally well, but there are a lot of other brands out there that are much better than a lot of theirs and they are less costly then a lot of their cigars are. I could name several cigars on the market that are better than the Arturo Fuente cigar and they are a better buy for the money but I will not start a debate right now. No doubt I will get those of you that will debate my thoughts on them but we all have our opinions on the cigars we smoke. I like them but I don't put them above other cigars that cost less then they do.
Mmm... This cigar (A. Fuente candela) is always kept in rotation. Not the absolute best smoke ever, but I enjoy the subtle change the candela provides me. It's smooth, and burns super nice. It has its own little unique 'green' flavor that really is unique.
I remember smoking this brand a few months ago and it was excellent but now their different. The wrapper slightly comes apart. It also looks and feel loose. They need better quality control. Don't get confused it's still a good tasty cigar. As for me I'll move on an try other brands. Then maybe I'll purchase later down the road an see if their quality has improve.
I tried one just recently. Not bad an not great just good enough. Strange how there were no band. I was hoping for one to add to my collection. They burn just fine an the aroma smells great. The flavor was okay for me that is. I had no problems with the draw. The construction are perfect. I'm going leave the rest in the humidor for awhile. I know for others will love this one but for me it's just a change of flavor from time too time. There nothing wrong it's just not one of my favorites or maybe with a little age it might be different.
I have been smoking cigars for years now, and Arturo Fuente is NOTHING of what it used to be. They should be ashamed of themselves for demanding such a high price for their sticks. I picked up some Hemingway Short Stories and Chateau Naturals at my local Brick and Mortar while waiting on my C.I. shipment. The short stories wrappers are so delicate the slightest abrasion will send flakes of it flying off and as you smoke it about halfway down both of their wrappers came unraveled. Oh and did I mention I had to use a drawpoker on both of them as they were so tight you couldn't draw through them. Now on to the Chateau Fuente Natural...Pre light aroma ehhh, upon toasting and first light OMG it literally smelled like cow manure and dried grass, I almost gagged and even my wife freaked out and she tolerates my cigars quite well, I had to put it out. From here on out I will never purchase another AF cigar, they are nothing more than an overrated shadow of their former self.
I have to agree with the "86" rating and I am a longtime AF smoker.
The Arturo Fuente is just an average cigar, nothing to jump around about. It wasn't too complex, but lit and smoked well. Meh....
One word comes to mind when I think of Fuente... Consistency Without question, Fuente is the most consistent brand of cigar I smoke. I don't think I've ever had a bad one, and I've smoked a lot of them, all sorts of shapes and sizes. They virtually never tunnel nor canoe, nor do they ever irritate the throat, and the draw is nearly always perfect... Seems to me a lot of time is taken to guarantee quality both of the tobacco and the roll.. Bottom line - Overall, Fuentes quality is top knotch and although there certainly are more flavorful cigars out there, Fuente is not far off the pace and they remain so consistent in terms of quality, I easily smoke more of them than any other top shelf brand..
I don't think I've ever had a Fuente cigar I haven't enjoyed. Always beautifully made and flavourful. Can't go wrong.
Ok, I know you guys at times at CI have thought that A. Fuente's were over rated and you have suggested alternative less expensive, lets call them better value cigars. And at time I have agreed, Opus is quite expensive and anyone with any patience can have a great ages cigar if they just wait, and not have to spend some $20+ a stick. I have an Anejo in my box now that I cant wait to have on a very special occasion, and I am sure that it will be wonderful albeit not worth the $30 it cost. But i do have to say that the 858 and the Gran Reserve Churchill are very worth their price. They are not astronomical smokes like the Anejo or the Opus yet they exude great flavor and aroma that goes along with their value. I had the joy of having a Fuente Churchill just the other night right out of th box and it was quite lovely. Nice burn, great draw and great flavor through and through. Not a smoke that changes and jumps around, just one that stayed consistent throughout. I would highly recommend some of the lower line Fuente's anyday. And at CI's lower prices $100+ for a box of premium cigars is by no means outrageous. Try them I think you will be quite happy.
Arturo Fuente's have never let me down. A delightful smoke with an exquisite taste and wonderful aroma. I prefer the Double Chateaus with a tasty libation. And for those times when I just want to relax; a Canon fills the bill. I've tried others...Montecristo's, Macadnudos, Guhrkas and others, but I still come back to the Fuente's. For my money and taste a leader by far. I have never had a bad Fuente.
A. Fuente...Churchill 7.5x48 was a pleasant mild smoke with a quality construction. Great morning cigar, even burn, and a nice aroma. This stick has enough body and flavor to satisfy the palate and leaves you wanting another. Good stick to share with your free loading buddies and even the ladies might enjoy this one. A pleasant smoke in every way....The flavor (almost) approaches a Casa Torano or Perdomo Cabinet Series Champagne.
Looking for an everyday cigar I ordered a box of curlyheads.(Arturo Fuente) Nice for the price.
AF (Arturo Fuente) has been one of my favorites for many years. One exceptional smoke for the money.
Double Chateau (Arturo Fuente) is the best smoke for a round of golf bar none. Has a smooth but distinct flavor that is not matched by any cigar in my humidor (I carry about 8 brands at a time). You will not be caught saying "I can't taste my smoke". Ever so slight bitterness to the wrapper keeps you lips kickin.
The AF Curly Heads are a wonderful introduction to the world of cigars. Mild-Bodied, but with good flavor, these smaller-ring smokes are a great value as well. If you're just starting out with cigars... start here.
A new favorite - the 858 natural. Wow. The complexity of this cigar is impressive. At least two round trips between spicy and sweet. Definitely a new regular.
A very well made cigar (Arturo Fuente), with a strong flavor not for a weak pallet.
There is always at least a couple of AF's (Arturo Fuente) Royal salutes in my humidor. I call it the magic cigar. It shifts flavors 4 different times. It starts out a little spicy from the cedar wrap. Then it immediatly shifts into a macchiatto flavor, then to espresso. The magic comes when at about 2 inches from the nub it moves to coffee with sweet cream. A magic cigar at a magic price.
AF Chateau Maduro... Great smoke (Arturo Fuente). Slow burn, plenty of smoke. Hearty, refined taste right to the nub. Excellent!
By far the best cigar (Arturo Fuente) for the money. Smooth drawing and well made. 8-5-8s are my favorite
Just had a couple of "Fuente Fuente OPUS X" (Arturo Fuente)stogies and must say there were superb smokes! Any of the Fuentes is a good smoke for the money.

Arturo Fuente

Arturo Fuente, one of the most widely known names in the cigar industry. On a daily basis, I come in contact with enthusiasts that live and die by the Fuente name, swearing off all cigars unless it has this infamous signature somewhere on the band. Why? Beats me, there are so many great cigars out there it’s hard to believe a true enthusiast would limit himself to just one maker. Personally, I’ve yet to find the attraction to Arturo Fuente cigars. From the Gran Reserva to the Opus X, I just don’t see what all the hoopla is about. But, I am always willing to take a retest, so I’ll give the Gran Reserva another go. Considering it’s the top selling Fuente, I figure this line will be the brand’s best representative.

I picked up a 5-pack of the Double Chateau, an attractive over-sized toro wrapped in a cedar sleeve. I am a stickler for cedar sleeves. Anyway, it smells pretty good. The pleasant, slightly sweet aroma hints at a flavorful, balanced cigar. So far so good. And so I move on. It lights up like a champ and instantly burns even. The flavor off the start is nice. I am picking up some toasty, woody notes lent by the cedar sleeve and a little bit of pepper. Not much though. The ash burns white and firm, and the cigar emits an abundance of white smoke. Great construction. Unfortunately, the flavor just couldn’t keep up. The cigar became rather dull, losing most of the luster I noticed from the first 5 minutes. This not only disappoints me, it scares me, since the Double Chateau is 6¾” long and still has over 5” to go. As expected, based on my past experiences with this cigar, the flavor does not return. After the initial burst (read tease), the cigar becomes quite uneventful. I just puff air until I’ve decided on something else to satisfy my palate. I’ve noticed this with almost every Fuente I smoke, which is too bad, because they’re made incredibly well. They look great, smell great, and have a pretty band. But, it takes a helluva lot more to sell me than a pretty band with a famous name on it, especially at Fuente-like prices. Today’s test results are the same as before. I still don’t see what all the fuss is about with Fuente cigars. For those of you that swear by this brand, pick up a La Aurora, CAO Black or Pueblo Dominicano. Heck, come to our retail store, I’ll give you one of mine. Bring a friend. You’ll thank me later.

Arturo Fuente

Just over 3 years ago, I wrote a review on the Arturo Fuente Double Chateau. If you haven’t read it, or would like to reference back, you can find it here. Despite being 2+ years old, this single review still (to this day) results in a constant stream of hate mail from diehard Fuente fans, in addition to in-depth debates with retail store customers. “How can you not like Fuente?” “You're insane, 'hater'!” “Your palate sucks!” “You’re an embarrassment to the cigar community!” I hear it all the time.

As a gesture of good faith, I am conducting a follow-up review of Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva (the standard Arturo Fuente) in the same size, Double Chateau. It’s a popular cigar and worth another shot. After all, my palate has evolved over the past 3 years, so things might be different. So...once and for all, let’s settle this.

The Double Chateau is a lighter, rustic looking cigar. The blonde Connecticut shade wrapper contains very little oils and a series of tiny veins running throughout the leaf. As expected, the Spanish cedar sleeve has created a sweet, cedary influence on the pre-light aroma. The barrel contains no soft spots, portraying a solid roll from head to toe.

Upon lighting, my palate is coated by a smooth creaminess that instantly begins to dissipate with each pull on the cigar. Shortly thereafter, the true nature of the blend begins to surface. Tobacco, toast and cedar. The aftertaste has a quick, metallic component, as if I bit into a piece of aluminum foil stuck on my food - sans the low-voltage electric shock. An inch and a half in and it’s clear this is a medium-bodied cigar, on the lighter side of the medium scale. The draw is nice and the flaky ash is still intact, but the cigar begins to burn a little crooked. Midway through, I notice a slightly grassy flavor is beginning to develop. Normally I would say this cigar could be young, but I am not picking up the bitterness of green tobacco. Hints of this flavor remain throughout the remainder of the burn, and often overpowers the faint notes of toast and cedar well. With an inch left, I put the cigar down and cut another.

The second cigar looked and smoked about the same. There was no metallic aftertaste, but the grassyness was definitely there. Like the aroma of fresh lawn clippings working its way through my sinuses and down the back of the palate. Not very appealing.

I don’t get it. Arturo Fuente is just not for me.
