I'm new to cigars and cigar smoking, and I'll apologize in advance if this is a silly question. I'd like to know what is the purpose of the cedar sleeves on certain cigars?

Sometimes manufacturers use cedar sleeves as a way of adding a bit of visual appeal. However, a majority of the time they are used to impart more flavor to the cigar. By wrapping the cigar in cedar, characteristics from the wood are taken into the cigar. Since most humidors and aging rooms are lined with cedar, this notion is completely natural. Over a short period of time, the difference between a cedar wrapped cigar and one that is not is minimal. But over longer periods, the difference becomes more significant. One isn't necessarily better than the other, it's a matter of preference.
