Puros Indios

Made by Cuban-trained cigar making legend Rolando Reyes, Sr.

Puros Indios are handmade from Honduras with Cuba-seed filler, and a rich, oily Ecuadorian wrapper. The result is a spicy, medium to full-bodied, aromatic taste. Rated ’93’ by Cigar Aficionado.

Cuban-expatriate Rolando Reyes, Sr. has been called the world’s best blender on more than one occasion. In fact, his cigars are critically acclaimed for their raw richness and complex layers of flavor. Back in-stock and better than ever!

Great smokes for a newb. Love them
I've only recently ventured into the world of cigars so my "review" has little experience behind it. I love the Puros Indios cigars. Fairly mild with a good draw and smooth flavor. They are getting 4 stars though because I've now had the cap come off of two of them after cutting them with a punch.

Great
Great cigars, especially for the price. Very well made and taste great. Has been my everyday cicar for 15 years. Only problem is you guys run out of the Robusto naturals too often.

Puros Indios Bronco
For the money you can't go wrong, good roll and burn with a medium strength at the most. Could be an everyday go to for some

Puros Indio is my best favorite classic smoke.
This is a great smoke and doesn't get enough respect as it should. I let it stay a secret because then thee always enough for me. I would like to see some of the other sizes for sale. I buy it here because they are the few that do, if Cigar.com had them I would buy there, they ship much faster.

Not the Puros of old
Loose, inconsistant burn and harsh flavor. Wouldn't buy again.

QUALITY PLUS
I found this cigar to be everything one would desire in a hand made cigar. Construction was superb with a nice smooth draw and even burn throughout the entire length. No tunneling or canoeing. The flavor was very good, but just a tad mild for a Maduro. Non the less, a smoke that has a an all around quality which far exceeds cigars 3 to 4 times the price..

5 pack buy...good burn
Extremely mild. The first I have gotten in 5 years. Great price, stays easily lit, only problem is that there is no flavor. The little bit of flavor I got was a bitter chocolate.

Pleasant cigar
This cigar is a pleasant "after-meal" type cigar. Rolled well, burns evenly and tastes nice. This cigar is one of the best buys out there

Not up to Pure Indios standards
Luv the Puros Indios cigars, great for the golf course. Packed nicely, smokes down real well. Unfortunately, they were all out of the non-maduros which I regularly smoke. So I tried the maduro and was greatly disappointed. Tougher draw and fell apart. I love maduros but I will pass on this one.

Puris indios toro especial
one of my favorites, mangey wrap, kind of loose on draw, but the flavor....ahhh the flavor. Rich earth, mocha, cedar, damp wood, and an undefinable flavor that is characteristic of all things made by Rolando Reyes. Medium in body, very little spice, smokable for the novice and the maestro. Don't let the blotchy wrapper fool you. This thing is rocking with flavor. Just keep your eye on the burn ring, I usually have to touch it up.
Customer Testimonials
Haven't smoked one of these in years, and was pleasantly surprised to see they're just as good as I remember. I knew I was in for a treat before I even lit this thing. The wrapper is like chewing on leather, and I mean that in the best possible way. My one and only complaint was some relight issues, but nothing to get bent out of shape about. Highly recommended.
I have enjoyed these cigars for several years now and it is one of the best sticks out there for that price. I try to keep some on hand at all times, but my last box to almost 3 months to get....
Bought a few of these. The construction is real hit or miss no matter how long they were aged. If you hit it burned perfect all the way to the end. If you miss they require constant correction. They pull on the harder side which I personally don't mind. I did have a few peel which is consistent with other reviews. You may wonder why they were given a 93? First consider the price. You should expect some flaws. Second, I haven't gotten to the flavores yet! This may be my go to cigar for the price range. The flavores were right up my ally in terms of preference. The overall taste and complexity was consistent from cigar to cigar. It starts off very very smooth and the taste becomes bold 2/3 through. Very rich tobacco flavor with some spice. Last 1/3 of the cigar I could not get enough of. The flavors blended together and smokes nice and smooth. I smoked everyone down until I hand nothing left to hold. Highly recommended for the price. Will become my low end favorite!
One of my favorite cigars. This medium flavor cigar not only has a great smooth and rich combination of tastes, but it is one of the best rolled cigars that I have enjoyed. I have had 3 boxes now and I keep going back to them to find it really was as good as I thought. Almost everyone smokes very easy and has a comfortable draw.
Got a 5 pack of the Toro Maduro. Very Enjoyable Inexpensive smoke! Would definitely buy again.
Puros Indios have always been my favorite "go to" stogies. Purchased a box of broncos for the fourth of july bb-q. thoroughly enjoyed by all who smoked 'em. Even got comments from non-smokers, who said they enjoyed the aroma!
I usually smoke a full flavored smoke but these are so smooth and tasty I can't resist. First I tried the bundles that are ugly but great for the price. The box is a better constructed cigar with the same creamy, nutty, cedar, and sweet peppery flavor. Burns well with ample smoke. The wrap peels like most Puros but the taste is there. Not a bad price for a well deserved 93 rating.
The Viejo freebie box that comes with the Puros is better than the bundles. The bundles smoke like second, inconsistent and ugly. The box is leathery, peppery, very much cedar and an earthy sweetness. A much better kick and solid. Toasty, to say the least. I was going to give them away but they are a nice quality cigar. I would say medium rather than mild to medium for these surprisingly satisfying cigars.
Just tried the Gordo size. Picked it up at a shop while visiting family. That's the only size they had so I tried 1. 1 of the most awesome sticks I've ever had the pleasure to try. Burned even and consistent, started out mellow and creamy, finished with a nice rich medium flavor. Never got over heated and lasted about 1 hr 45 min. I enjoyed it so much I drove the 35 miles back to get a few more. Cigars that good only get better with some humi-time. So, I'm looking forward to the near future.
Nice flavorful cigar. Inexpensive enough to smoke every day. However, I have had some issues with very fragile wrappers...... tearing while being handled. Now, I have many other cigars in my humidor and none of them are exhibiting the same issues, so humidity seems right. Maybe this particular stick needs more/less humidity?
Tried the small Puritos and liked them so I thought I'd try the Toros. Other than the one in my hand being a bit hard on the draw it's a very nice cigar. Pretty mellow yet tasty, doesn't burn the tongue and has a very nice even burn that looks to be pretty long lasting. The ash is sturdy and white with no cracks and no hint of a bow nearly 2 inches in. I'd say these are pretty hard to beat for the price if you like a mellow smoke.
After smoking my first Puro, I couldn't stop sniffing my shirt of this wonderful earthy aroma left on my clothes. This is easily in my top ten favorite smokes! Fire one up, sit back and let the flavors fill your senses!!
Puros Indios was my first "favorite" cigar when I started out smoking cigars about 15 years ago. I love the earthy, leathery flavor with a hint of alfalfa and a peppery short finish. I don't get a chance to smoke these very often due to our current economic downturn, however, there are several other more affordable (for me) products in the Reyes Family Cigars catalog that can be found here for some very excellent prices...Puro Indios Veijo, Puros Indios Maxima Reserva, Pirate's Gold, Flor del Todo, et al. But, the original Puros Indios still remains my favorite - with the Cuba Aliados as a close second.
I can't believe that there isn't any Fan Mail on this cigar, which surely must be called a classic. Even though Pirate's Gold is probably my favorite of the Senor Reyes cigars that I have smoked, Puros Indios easily a close second, particularly if I'm in the mood for something with a little more kick. I first bought one of these from a well-estasblished tobacconist in Monterey CA, I was soon happy to find them as part of a great Reyes sampler here at CI. His cigars are for cigar lovers who want a great smoke w/o all of the hype and BS. Thank you Senor Reyes for making great cigars and thank you CI for bringing them to us at great prices!

Puros Indios by Rolando Reyes, Sr.

Steve R
Rolando Reyes, Sr. is a living legend. I was fortunate enough to witness firsthand just how important this man is to the cigar industry at the 2004 RTDA in Las Vegas, as everyone there helped celebrate his birthday. It’s difficult to put into words the amount of respect that he receives within the industry, fellow cigar-makers went out of their way to shake his hand and made it a point to express their gratitude towards his efforts and achievements. And for good reason, the man is a master at his craft.

In addition to being a regular investment of mine, the benchmark Puros Indios brand remains one of Rolando’s greatest feats to date. In true Reyes, Sr. form, the PI Bronco sports a blotchy, marbleized wrapper that catches your eye. I have to admit, it’s far from being the prettiest leaf that I’ve seen, but I’ll be damned if ain’t intriguing. It’s kind of like my dog – a purebred pug – so ugly you gotta get one. Only, a box of these ‘beauties’ cost a lot less than a pug and it doesn’t snore while awake. It’s comprised of a superior blend of Cuban-seed, Honduran-grown tobaccos and a shiny Ecuadorian Colorado wrapper. But the key to this cigar is the size. The Bronco weighs in at a healthy 6”x56. Normally, a cigar of this stature opens and finishes with an explosion of flavor and strength. Instead, this blend has been mellowed and masterfully balanced by an extensive aging process, making a soothing, slow burning smoke that never comes close to full bodied. Every now and then the burn may go slightly awry, but this can only be expected when this much tobacco is in play. Regardless, I always enjoy the depth of flavor it presents. A medium bodied firecracker that swarms my taste buds with an abundance of smooth, earthy flavors that start out subtle and creamy, becoming more and more rich as it burns. It’s not the quickest smoke in my humidor, but I try to make some time for this puppy on a regular basis. Its ample size and intricate blending allows me to fully appreciate everything that made Rolando Reyes, Sr. a legend within the industry.
