PDR Small Batch Maduro

One of PDR's finest.

Bust out the bib for this big, juicy handmade compliments of Pinar del Rio. Just looking at the oily Habano Maduro Ligero wrapper gets me drooling like a toddler. And the good news is she tastes as good as she looks. Packed with Dominican and Nicaraguan Corojo and secured by a Dominican Criollo 98 binder, this is one hearty maduro. Initially you're greeted with spicy-sweet undertones and a deep maduro richness, as the wrapper truly shines. Slowly but surely the rich core takes the reins, exuding de-lish notes of black pepper, coffee, espresso bean, and unsweetened chocolate. A lip-smacking treat compliments of PDR, sign up below ASAP.

Great news! The PDR Small Batch Reserve Maduro received a 91-rating in Cigar Journal noting: "This torpedo impresses first with its fabulous creamy smoke full of coffee aromas and gentle sweetness of dark chocolate. This is joined later by fruity notes and a well-integrated, perfectly judged peppery sharpness."

These are one fine cigar. It had a perfect burn and perfect draw with lots of rich smoke. It had sweet chocolate and coffee maduro flavor from beginning to end. I would consider it medium strength. This is one of the best cigars I've had this year and I'm getting more soon.
I got one of these in a sampler an it is great! I'm not much on maduro cigars but this beauty is changing my mind. I got the 5-52 It has an excellent draw, the taste is a hint of cedar, leather and spice. I am finishing it up right now and it was good from the beginning to the almost end. The CI price looks good too. I will put this on my to buy list.
One fine cigar in it's price range. I would recommend it to anyone who smokes cigars.
The Robusto version of this stick was Smoke Number 5 out of the Backyard Boogie Mega Sampler that I recently purchased from C.I. From the understated white band to the rich dark wrapper to the full—yet amazingly smooth—taste, the perfect burn and the easy draw, this one is a Winner. My palate isn’t sophisticated enough to detect all of the nuances of flavor that some may note regarding this cigar but it’s sort of like that old saying regarding art: I don’t know art but I know what I like. And I like this one.
I received these beauties in a sampler. I'd never tried this brand before. I'm very pleased with these GREAT cigars. They have a nice mild/med blend and a nice coffee blend too. Great ash, made well with a nice wrapper. The aroma isn't over powering either. For the price you really can't go wrong if you're a maduro guy.
I might have a cigar once or twice a week. It gives my taste a little down time (like a sorbet between the courses of a meal ). That said please consider this PDR Small Batch Reserve a fair option for the refined taste. The one I just had was a Torpedo it was tightly packed. I found the best draw by cutting the end and coring the draw end with a Smead's Quick-Twist Paper Drill. That gives it about 3/8 of am inch hollow core. The hollow core draw end offers an even flow and avoids extra effort on the draw. The smoke was cool down to within three fingers of the draw end. That is a plus in my book. It had an even and constant burn for almost two full hours that is also a plus. It was a little acrid with small PH fermentation to the end of the burn (between three and two fingers from the draw end). No such effect until that close burn. Over all the basic flavor was not as strong as I hoped it might be for a Maduro blend. One might well call it an easy refined Maduro. For the cost it is a good value and I recommend it.
