Don Rafael Connecticut

Don Rafael cigars are premium mild and smooth, built for Everyman’s everyday enjoyment at bargain basement prices.

Don Rafael cigars, rolled by Jose Dominguez in the same boutique cigar factory that makes Victor Sinclair, is a well-constructed, mild to medium-bodied blend from the Dominican Republic. Don Rafael is comprised of a Dominican binder, all-Dominican long-filler leaves, and a Connecticut Shade wrapper grown in Ecuador.

SMOKE magazine says: "Four out of five panelists agree: this is a cigar for everyone. Its mildness and subtle tones of spice and wood, bequeathed to the palate by the Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, make the Don Rafael an excellent all-day smoke for the novice and an excellent morning smoke. This is a perfect accompaniment to a glass of dry champagne or a mimosa, after you’ve finished off a heaping plate of huevos rancheros!"

Just OK
They start off smooth and draw well. The smoke is medium bodied with hints of spice. About halfway through though the taste turns from spice to bitter and the smoke becomes pungent.

The cigar is excellent for it's price and has a special taste that sets it apart from other cigars. It doesn't burn as evenly as a more expensive cigar but definitely worth the price !!

I have been ordering Don Rafael #67 Churchills for a number of years. My last order of 6 bxs. has been a huge disappointment. Out of 2 of the boxes, they have been impossible to draw. I have given up on 7 of the last 8 I have tried as unsmokeable

I bought two Boxes of don Raphael #67 Churchill very disappointed. Usually very good cigars. It was a tough draw on a lot of them

From Mitch
In general, a good value and decent smoke, accept, the occasional cigar that burns unevenly and is a poor smoke. I hope the next box I order is completely uniform, so I don't have to discard a bad smoke.

No Thanks
Out of the 80 cigar 'Bender Ender' sampler I purchased, these cigars were given away to a friend, because I did not want to smoke them. Enuff said.

Pretty good cigar
This is the first time I've tried them and so far so good. If all goes well with the remaining sticks I'll probably order them again.

I liked them
Bought a sampler with these in it. I thought that this one was going to be my least favorite, but after smoking the other 3 that were in the sampler, this one ended up being my favorite. Its pretty smooth and mild. Only smoked like two of them so can't comment on specific flavors or notes, but I do remember it being really good. I would buy a bundle of them if the occasion came up.

Nice #57
Good everyday cigar, though it can burn unevenly at times but that depends on how they are stored. Would buy more of this brand but they are not in stock when I need to buy many times.

Nice every day Smoke
Bought this as an everyday smoke, I was pleasantly supprised with the even burn, pleasant taste, and ease of draw. Onlly downside for an everyday was out of the 12 I smoked so far, two were split, and one unwrapped asI smoked. around half-way, had to give that one up

Not worth it
Cigar flavor was pretty inconsistent. You really have to be doing nothing else while smoking this cigar. As soon as you set it down , it goes out. Wouldn't recommend this cigar

Customer Testimonials
These are great. First cigar I smoked out of my sampler and it burns perfect. I loved it.
Nice stick. Decent smoke and they were on sale. Clean burn, good taste.
Great smoke for the buck! Smooth, good taste and burns/draws well. It's a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
I smoke cigars every day. In all price ranges. I'm constantly looking for that undervalued great little cigar. This cigar is perhaps my latest champion. It constantly beats cigars of three times the price in construction, taste and value. I don't normally write reviews, but this one needed to be done. Great cigar
I have to say, before trying this website I was reluctant to actually try a cigar. I always thought that this was a very disgusting thing to do but after trying a cigar that was given to me for my birthday, I loved them. I just began smoking cigars and this brand has me satisfied. It is perfect for me, as a beginner, and opens doors to try more as far as flavor and strength. Thanks Cigars International for opening the doors for new people!!
Very mild, good burning smoke for everyday. All my friends have enjoyed the ones I have given to them.
Mild nice smoke for cheap.
I find this cigar to be a bit of a disappointment, especially after reading many of the earlier reviews. I find this cigar to be a bit tasteless, almost to the point of having a paper/cardboard flavor - stale, leaves you wanting. I smoked only two, and both had stem chunks in them - frustrating and annoying. The wrapper stays tight to the body, a good thing. I'm sure some may disagree with my review, but I call it as they smoke. I have scratched these off my buy again cigar list. As a note I prefer light to medium-bodied cigars, based on my activity.
Don Rafael was one of the very first cigars I ever smoked . Very good cigar for the price . My wife recently started smoking with me and I introduced her to The Don Rafael Robusto and she just loves it !
Bad Box...First time ever! Wrappers were horrible and the taste was disgusting.
Wow. This is a great cigar. Burns right, draws well. Nice smooth flavor. Worth every penny of the $2. I'd put it up against a 5 or 6 dollar cigar.
I was amazed at all the positive reviews for these cigars. I smoked an entire box and every one was a major labor to draw some smoke. Whoever rolled them must have been suffering from hypertension. If you like a stick with easy draw, these are not for you.
when you smoke as much as I, you need to find a good inexpensive cigar. I found these years ago and have yet to get a bad one. Consistently smooth, mild, even burning, with just enough spice to let you know you have one in your mouth. The perfect morning cigar, or if you smoke several a day. They're great for keeping the bugs away while fishing!
this one is a keeper for sure, and for the price well balanced cigar!
If you are looking for a cigar that is mild, well constructed, one that burns consistently & most importantly, doesn't break the bank, then Don Rafael Connecticut might just be what you are searching for. Often available for less than two bones a stick, the Vintage 2004 blend of Don Rafael's Connecticut is a tasty treat. It stores well too. After a few months in a constant 68% humidity environment, the flavor blossoms bringing out notes of vanilla as well as an underlying sweetness that is characteristic of its Dominican long fillers. If mild & inexpensive is what you are searching for, then DRC is a blend that should be on your radar, as well as aging in your humidor.
Everyone that I let try one of these could not believe I got them for $2ea. I am a fan of Victor Sinclair.
These are absolutely one of the best deals out there. Great cigar through and through. Consistent burn, long ash, and great flavor. And best of all, it doesn't break the bank.
Best every day cigar you can smoke...a real treat.
This Don Raphael stick is mild to be sure, yet has nice flavors. I have not had one yet that did not burn perfectly. This has become my daily morning coffee cigar.
Very nice mild smoke. An excellent value on a quality cigar. Will purchase again.
That never ending search for a quality, everyday smoke. This is where I'm at right now. Great value in a pleasant mild smoke. I find these better than my Casa de Garcia's that I'd previously been enjoying. I've now been through several boxes and quality is consistent. Great bang for the buck.
I'v been looking for a daily smoke cigar and ordered them as the deal of the week. As soon as I got home I had to open the box and smoke one. I love them. The draw was easy and the smoke was light in texture and have a wonderful farm house flavor with a light spice finish. My first though was that it would pair well with a beer or tequila and fresh avacodo dip on a simmers day. I'm looking forward to injoying them with my friends while BBQing on a hot Dallas evening.
Just smoked my first Don Rafael yesterday. These are very good cigars... the draw was a bit hard and i had to relight it a few times, but i didn't mind. This cigar lasted a long time and had a great smell and taste. Don Rafael and Dark Sharks will be my 2 favorites from CI and i will be ordering many more of these. Thank you, CI for the excellent service.
I found the draw to be a little hard straight out of the box. Good even burn and taste good. Good cigar for the price. Will let cigars set in humidor for awhile to see if they get better.
In an effort to find a good stick at a low price, I've spent a lot of money, and endured some horrible cigars in search of a good one that wouldn't break the bank. Having had the privelige of smoking real Cubans, and a host of great cigars purchased from CI. For me, it is difficult to go from steak to peanut butter sandwiches unless I have to. Now that I have had the Don Rafel for a few weeks, and smoked several of them. Never again will I have to choose from the filet to a slice of cold cuts. This is a well made, fantastic draw with billows of smoke, a 2 inch ash, and only gets better the longer it rest in the humidor. My first order was for 25, and it only took a week or so for me to make a second order for 50 so I could allow them time in the humidor. At this point I have not found a single cigar with defects, which speaks more than the words I can write. The Don Rafael is one of the most dependable sticks among the 300 or more in my humidors, most being well known 90 plus rated. It is very common for me to smoke a certain well known brand that is flawless. Then, I get another one out just like the other that smoked well. Except the next time, one side will burn faster than the other, the draw is difficult, or something else will be wrong. Not so with the Don Rafael, each one gives me the same gratification as the last, and keeps it's great attributes. If your in the situation I was in on finding a good cheap in price cigar well constructed and good in flavor. Please give these a chance, then you can write how wrong I was if you don't feel the way I do on a Don Rafael 6 X 54 Toro that goes for $69.95 for 50. THANK YOU CI FOR MAKING THESE CIGARS AVAILABLE AT A LOW PRICE. One negative thing that I need to bring out, and remember this if you make a purchase. For some reason when I pull the ban off there will be a blemish under the ban. The last one I smoked I looked at the back of the ban and noticed tiny pieces of tobaco stuck to it which explains the blemish. Even though it hasn't caused a problem, and your a ban remover such as myself. Do it in a gentle manner rather than just ripping it off. I don't expect every person to be as excirted as I am about this cigar, since we are all diffeent. Nevertheless, I'm betting that there will be more the way I feel than those with negative comments.
I smoked one of these right off the truck. It was extremely dry, and it tasted horrible to me. Everything else was perfect: construction, burn, etc. So, I let them rest in the humi a couple weeks. What a difference! I was truly impressed. After resting, this is a very consistent, mild cigar. If you smoke Brocatus or similarly priced offerings from CI, I believe you would find these to be superior in every way.
I wanted to say something bad about these smokes so there wouldn't be a run on them,-- and leave them for those of us who have found them. But there isn't anything bad about them --- Great smoke, smooth -- packed well for a budget cigar. Hell I like these smokes better then most premium brands. What a great deal --------
I've smoked a bunch of these (Don Rafael) and found the construction to be consistently good. I appreciate a value cigar that smokes evenly. Good Value.
Just got in my order yesterday, and I've already smoked two of 'em (Don Rafael). I've ordered several boxes of these over the years, and I've always found them to be damn good everyday smokes. This box was no exception. If you're looking for a humidor-stuffing, solid everyday smoke that won't drive you into the poor house, then this is a cigar for you... it is for me, anyway. Damn good smoke!
I have been smoking Don Rafael maduro cigars for a couple of years always consistant mild and flavorful, even burn GREAT VALUE
Don Rafael is the first cigar that I ordered from CI..Still one of my very favorites!!Just received a reorder of them and enjoyed one late yesterday afternoon at the practice range while BSing with the boys and hitting wedges. Mild yet flavorful...IMHO the perfect smoke for an early morning tee time (or any other time) when a La Gloria Cubana, Punch or El Rey del Mundo is just a bit "too much". A "light" smoke that is loooong on flavor..Thanks to CI for introducing me to these!!
Don Rafael...what a great cigar to fire up when you've got a 7:30 or 8:00 AM tee time, want a cigar to relax but something more full bodied just won't do (that early in the day)...Mild, mild, mild, and, tasty..And available in a generous 7.5 inch Churchill or nice fat Torpedo that'll last you the whole front nine...Another selection where you guys hit the nail on the head by calling this fine cigar...Everyman's premium smoke...and through CI every man can afford these with your great pricing....Thanks CI
