Punch Diablo

by AJ Fernandez

Punch enters the dark side

Coming in hot from IPCPR 2018 Punch delivers its boldest creation to date – Punch Diablo. Punch cigars have been produced in Honduras since their inception in 1960, but when it came time to blend a new, bolder Punch, they turned to none other than AJ Fernandez in Esteli, Nicaragua. The task was to use aged tobacco to create a cigar with strength and bold flavors, complementing the Punch portfolio. They used a bevy of dark tobaccos from four different countries resulting in a bold new creation that is sure to offer full-bodied enthusiasts another reason to love the classic Punch brand.

At first glance you’ll find a 4 years aged Ecuadoran Sumatra Oscuro wrapper that’s dark and toothy. Underneath you’ll find another 4 years aged blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran Habano ligero leaves, bound by a bold Connecticut Broadleaf binder that’s been aged 6 years. This 4 country concoction offers up indulgent and spicy flavors with notes of wood, earth, and leather. If you’ve been on the prowl for a new powerhouse cigar, you can count on AJ’s new take on Punch cigars.

Diablo fantastic
I concur with the other reviewers. I’ve never had much luck with Punch. But as an AJ collaboration, and the wrapper, I gave it a shot. WOW! A flavor bomb! Great taste and aroma. Smokes great. I’ve had a problem with cigars losing their taste after early on. This taste continues through the nub. I don’t guy on ratings. In my top five, probably the Anejo is the only rated stick. I’ll be picking up a box of these. I rarely by boxes. Great stick, by a five pack at least! Jack

Dynamite Cigar
This is a dynamite cigar both figuratively and literally. It is truly full bodied and packed with flavor. The Punch Diablo is perfectly rolled and burns evenly and smoothly and lasts a long time. I fell in love with this cigar the first time I smoked one.

Awesome
Amazing indeed. Exactly why I try new blends before reading reviews. Most reviews peg at 82 to 85. This is a solid 93 plus in my opinion. Better than some 95’s. Just my opinion. Great cigar.

Amazing
They put all the money into the tobacco on this one. Possibly the greatest full bodied cigar I’ve experienced in a long time. Came in a box of 25 and I smoked every one of them down past the label. The bare knuckles used to be my favorite punch, but these diablos spoiled me.

This Punch packs a punch!
I'm loving this new Diablo! I'm putting this one pretty much at the top of the many creations AJ has going with it seems a myriad of cigar companies now days! Everyone and their uncle has a cigar made by AJ! Busy guy. Well balanced, spicy, yet smooth. I'm in love with the Ecuador Sumatra Oscuro wrapper on this one! Awesome stick, kudos!!
