Rarity, thy name is Padron 1926 80th Anniversary.
After the wildly successful debut of the Padron 1964 line, boasting 90+ ratings all over the place, Padron was forced to confront a difficult undertaking: they had to outdo themselves. As usual, the brilliant minds behind some of the most complex, compelling blends in the business did not let us down. Released in 2006 to commemorate Jose Orlando's 80th birthday, this unique find is a cigar worth partaking in.
A full-bodied beauty, 80th Anniversary features a Cuban-seed Nicaraguan wrapper draped over a hearty core of Nicaraguan long-fillers and a Nicaraguan binder. This powerhouse mix is well aged and chock full of strong, bold flavors with heavy notes of spice mixed with earth that linger from the head to the foot. Well-balanced, complex, and boasting an even burn, this is one Padron you'll want to invite to the party
Padron 1926 80th Anniversary earned a remarkable 96-rating, noting: "It is undeniably an amazing cigar, teeming with complexity and depth that can only be achieved through inventories of well-aged tobacco. The cigar has the signature Padrón flavor: cocoa, coffee, nuts and toast; it also has orange peel, leather and some spice on the finish. It is made with some of the company’s oldest leaves by only one buncher and one roller, who create but 300 cigars per day."
I bought one of these (Maduro) at a local shop on a whim and I WAS NOT disappointed at all. Maybe the smoothest draw I have ever had. I smoke fairly quick, but made myself go slow, and savored the flavor. Very full flavor, beautifully put together, I even caught myself looking at the lingering smoke a few times. Worth the price!
One of the best in the world. A true and rare pleasure.
I got one of these for a birthday gift last year. Since I had to wait a couple weeks to smoke it (can't use your b-day gift before the actual day!), I got to stare and smell it for a while...even THAT was extremely intoxicating. Then the big day...It was better than I could've imagined. At that point, I was only smoking cigars for about 8 months, but I can tell a superior smoke when I have one. Incredibly complex, incredibly full and INCREDIBLY tasty. Definitely NOT a cheap stick but absolutely perfect for special occasions or if you want to treat yourself to something NICE. I might even try to save up for the small box...
