Dunbarton Muestra de Saka Nacatamale

Description

Sample of Saka

For those of you who don't know, Steve Saka used to be a master blender over at Drew Estate and helped produce some top-notch blends under that brand. Today, he blends with Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust and since the company’s induction into the industry in 2015, they have already put out some highly-rated blends that are grabbing enthusiast’s attention all over. The Muestra de Saka line of cigars is an interesting one. Mustra de Saka Translates to "Saka's Sample". This is a line of cigars that are limited release blends that are all different and meant to reflect the blending mechanisms of Saka himself.

The Nacatamale is the second release in the line and it’s produced at the Joya de Nicaragua factory in Nicaragua. When Saka started working on this blend, he challenged himself to use the old style 'farm blending' where all the filler tobaccos come from the same farm. Today most cigar blends are comprised of tobaccos from many different countries and farms to create complex and satisfying tastes. All the fillers in Nacatamale come from a farm in Jalapa Nicaragua with a Nicaraguan binder and Ecuadorian Habano wrapper on top. The result is a complex medium to full bodied cigar with a notes of deep earthiness, pepper, caramel, and a rich, tobacco sweetness. They come packaged elegantly in individual coffins. When I go to my humidor and I come across one of these I have a hard time selecting something else to enjoy. Of all the Muestra line it is both the perfect length and gauge and the blend is not quite as full as the Exclusivo but a little fuller than the #NLMTHA. I keep these in my humidor at all times.

I bought one of these on the recommendation of a cigar shop in North Conway, NH, USA. I also bought 4 other brands. All five were hits out of the park. These are at the top end of my typical budget for a cigar, but well worth it. These are the type you buy selfishly for yourself and only share them with a friend who appreciates very fine smoke and brings over top notch bourbon. (Fortunately, I have one such buddy). Brother-in-laws don't get these. Even our wives commented on the fine aroma. Gonna get some more of these and age them in the good humidor where the genuine Cubans reside. The flavor profile provided by this site is accurate, but I would add that the aroma contains wiffs of grilled buttered apricots and even a little honey. Father's Day is tomorrow. You deserve some.
