A Nicaraguan puro with American spirit.
Since its release, the Alec Bradley American Classic has been a hit, a winner through and through. Carefully blended by Alan Rubin, the line now has a new member of the family, and it's a home-run. Enter the new Alec Bradley American Sun Grown. This Nicaraguan puro utilizes the same Nicaraguan long-fillers as the American Classic, but now comes nestled inside a beautiful Nicaraguan sun-grown habano wrapper.
This leaf imparts a heartier, spicier, and overall richer character, while retaining the smooth balanced core that made the American Classic so enjoyable. Medium to full in body, the Sun Grown is complex yet smooth, and dishes out notes of black pepper, cedar, and nuts with a slight sweetness occasionally entering the fray. No doubt a more robust offering, the Sun Grown hits its mark, proving that sometimes the simplest ideas have the best results.
Good news! Alec Bradley American Sun Grown has received a well-deserved 91-point rating, noting: "Though the draw is notably firm, the cigar still produces a rich foundation of leathery, earthy notes complemented by sweet hints of toffee and a nutty, cashew-like finish."
I got this cigar in a sampler package and didn't know what to expect. It was very enjoyable, nice draw, mouthfuls of tasty smoke. I definitely will get some more!
Alec Bradley's American Sun Grown Corona is [one of] the least expensive vitolas in the entire AB lineup at around four clams per stogie. The pedigree is unmistakable. Medium/full bodied flavor in droves, along with spot on construction, perfect draw & an even burn. Charcoal, subtle spices & a palate lingering creamy smooth exhale remind me of several very expensive blends. San Lotano Oval & La Reloba Oscuro, to name two. 92/100 & a sure fire space holder in my humidor. I just finished a Diesel Corona, which is my favorite, but comparing to ASG, it's a close call. I am immediately ordering another box of these outstanding small cigars. With CI's current bonus, one penny nets me a dozen extra fantastic cigars the likes of Prensado, Tempus, Black Market & Nica Puro. $2.50 per stick makes this deal an epic "No-Brainer".
When I read reviews that say a cigar like Alec Bradley's American Sun Grown rivals or is better than Prensado, I take notice. When I see that ASG can be had for about 4 clams per vitola, I get excited. When AB offers up 12 more big sticks for a mere penny, I order a box up lickety-split! They arrived today & I love the old style Cuban cedar & cardboard box, the dark, sultry sun grown habano wrapper & the deeply complex roasted almond & caramel flavors this outstanding stick emits. It's miles from Prensado, but a real winner in its own right. It's a somewhat lighter version of La Herencia Cubana Core. How about that? A 4 buck stogie that reminds folks of a couple of $10.00 legends. At $2.50 per stick, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I intend to smoke about half the box, then do a definitive report on American Sun Grown. For now, let's just say it's another Alec Bradley offering worthy of our attention. Thanks to the current offer, I am able once again to try a blend I might otherwise have missed. Thanks CI!
I smoke 2 to 3 cigars every day. I've only tried a couple AB's in the past and was not impressed at all. So when a couple of these arrived in a sampler pack I wasn't that happy to see an AB. However, I tried this AB ASG any way and I must say I loved it on so many levels. The flavor actually changed as it very slowly burned down to a sad little nub. At which I was very unhappy the experience had come to an end. I was so impressed though that I immediately ordered a box from CI and then I went to a local store and bought several of these at their inflated prices just to have my new fav on hand. I hope the prices don't go up because of their increased popularity. But just in case though I'm ordering more to stash away for many more happy stick burning days to come.
I loved this delicious cigar!
I agree with R.E. I like this slightly more than the Prensado. It's a great med-full body smoke. Best value out there!
A smooth robust smoke I am new to cigars about 3 months experience but this smoke was perfect a strong dark chocolate at the first look then developed to a nutty sense I will buy a box of rubusto in the future
Ordered a five pack of these in the Robusto and had one yesterday. I have to admit they only sat in the humidor for a few days, but I had not had a cigar in a week due to the weather here. These cigars are wonderful to look at with a dark wrapper and a pleasant scent prior to lighting. It even smelled spicy in the pre-light. The pre-light draw was tight as was the initial draw upon lighting. After a minute or two, the draw was normal. This puro tasted spicy with strong hints of pepper, coupled with a natural hint of sweetness. As with other AB's I've had (i.e. the Mundial) the stick burned a bit unevenly. From beginning to end this was a good smoke. Slightly more toward a full body than a medium-full, but that's fine with me. Give them a try if you're an AB fan or you're adventurous.
....I can honestly say that the AB American Sun Grown is better than the 96 rated Prensado. I don't know nutty, chocolate, leathery. That's all BS to me. This cigar is well rolled; the burn is second to none. The flavor is re-riculious. Really the Rocky Patel sun grown is like smoking a backwoods flavored cigar compared to the AB sun grown. The price is great the stick takes about hr , hr&1/2 to smoke but then again I only smoke the gordo. Word to my CI BROTHERS & sister this cigar you should really only smoke the gordo. It really brings out the true flavors. I regularly smoke this stick to the finger tips.
Received an Alec Bradley American Sun Grown robusto as part of my Cigar of the Month Club shipment. It is an outstanding cigar that fits my medium-full body cigar criteria. How would I rate it? I will become a part of my regular rotation and I will purchase a box ASAP. That's how I rate it.
I had the Alec Bradley American Sun Grown Toro. Found it to be medium-bodied, leaning toward full and real tasty!
I tried the Alec Bradley American Sun Grown last month and since I have smoked at least 5. This is clearly an outstanding smoke from lighting to finish. Very smooth and flavorful with an excellent burn and a creamy smoke. An excellent cigar when paired with a good Spiced Rum or Cognac.
I almost hate to let the cat out of the bag on this one. $80 something a box? They smoke like $200 a box cigars. I've only had the corona size and it was awesome. Complex and flavorful, not a single harsh note and it didn't get hot until it was a half inch nub. The best stick for the money, hands down, and I've sampled hundreds of different cigars. Yeah, you NEED to try these.
The AB American Sun Grown is a fantastic smoke. In my opinion every bit on par with the Ashton VSG for less than half the price. I work for a cigar shop here in VA and this is absolutely a regular go to smoke!
Superb cigar in the fashion of Tatuaje or Illusione. And at this price? Phenomenal! It has all my fave flavors that a nice cigar should have and a powerful stick. Kudos Alec Bradley folks.
