HUMI-CARE Black Ice Humidification

Have a piece of this pie, son!

One look at this jar, and it seems all but the same as Humi-Care's top-notch, award-winning humidification beads. But an apple ain't an orange, and a closer look reveals a lot more ingenuity than that. These new, advanced capacity Black Ice beads ensure a slower, steadier release of moisture, ensuring even greater humidity stability than before (65-70%). And here’s where the "oh-damn" moment happens. Black Ice ‘Pie Jars’ separate into 4 equal-sized pieces, allowing for more proportional humidity distribution. Plus, they free up a ton of wasted space by fitting snugly in the corners of your humidor. Genius! Don't bother trying to compare this to another jar you'll find somewhere else. Humi-Care Black Ice has no equal.

Check out the new 8oz jar size! Designed for larger 150 to 300-capacity humidors.

Note: Crystals are shipped dry/not activated to allow you the flexibility to use only a fraction of the jar if desired. The dry crystals are very small, but will fill the container when activated. To activate, simply fill each section with distilled water or cigar juice about halfway then wait approximately 30 minutes until the crystals absorb all of the liquid.

4oz Jar: 2.38"H (each wedge is 1.25” x 1.25”)
8oz Jar: 3.5”H (each wedge is 1.5” x 1.5”)

Customer Reviews of “HUMI-CARE Black Ice Humidification”
My humidor (bought a starter and thought it would be fine) was (soon) overfilled and was on a slow, down-hill spiral. Humidity kept dropping and some of the "buried" cigars were starting to dry and crack. I bought one of the 4oz jars, filled all 4 sections with cigar juice and 2 days later, they started to make a turn around. Still had to upgrade my humidor to fit the appropriate number of cigars, but the Black Ice saved what I had long enough for a new humidor to arrive and season.
I recently bought the Royal Tradition Humidor, a fantastic box, and the 8 oz. Black Ice Jar since I needed to use the 'shot glass' method of seasoning which is the recommended method by the manufacturer. I did use the Humi-Care seasoning wipe to give the interior a one time wiping, then filled the black ice sections and the humidification trays included. After only one day, the humidity was holding at 75 percent. Waited two more days, same level. I had to take out the Black Ice sections since they were a little too tall for this unit, they stood up a little over the upper tray ledge. I should have gotten the smaller 4 oz size to begin with, but I will use these in my older humidor since they work so well. I highly recommend them to everyone needing a simple way of keeping the best cigars properly aging, but first measure your humidor!
The package comes without instructions, and the segments do not have a "fill line," like Drymistat tubes. Take care not to fill more than half way, or you'll be left with gel crystals overflowing from the jar! That said, the increase in humidification is almost instantaneous. I use two segments per 20-capacity humidor.
I just purchased 3 of the 4oz and 2 of the 8oz pie jars; all 5 of my humidors are now perfectly stable. Here in Hawaii I have the toughest time with over-humidification. With the 2-way control of HUMI-CARE's Black Ice RH super beads, I can keep the humidity down in the ambient humid summers and up in the ambient dry winters. Solid product! Suggestion for Humi-Care: add a fill line to the jar for the distilled water. Fill to 50% in each pie slice and you will get the optimal performance from your Humi-Care Black Ice product! #HawaiiBOTL

I received, along with 40 new cigars, the 4 oz jar... I opened the sections and was not happy. I saw so few crystals that the bottom was not even covered. So, I filled them to the bottom of the inserts with distilled water, let it sit about ten minutes and went to empty the excess water only to find the inserts would not fit back in due to the crystals protruding from the wedges. Crazy!! Overflowing with very few crystals!!!! Heed the fill 50% advice. Performance is, dead on at 70% in my humidor, even though usually my humidor is in the 60 degree range, even at seventy degrees, it stayed at 70% humidity. These crystals are a little miracle in perfectly shaped containers!!

We'll have to see how these actually perform, but if they are anything like other Humi-Care products, they should work as advertised or better. The four little wedges nestle nicely in the corners of a glass-top Whitetail humidor and are barely visible through the glass. Definitely nifty and unobtrusive. And a word of advice: Give these a good hour after filling them "half-way" before you add more distilled water. A little goes a long way...
I'm not too sure what to think... At first I had to find something to pry the lid off to pour the solution in (I use my pick on a pipe tool). Once I got it filled up I wasn't sure how much was enough, so I continued to add more and more. It is ok now, but my humi is staying right at 60% :/ It does add space tho.
Great product. I added cigar juice HALF WAY and than added a bit more after about an hour. DONT FILL TO THE TOP IT WILL OVER FLOW. maintaining 72%. Works great for me so far.

Love the Humi-care humidification products, and swear by them in my own humidor - but i have to say I was let down by the 8oz jar not fitting properly in my humidor! It's too tall for the lid to close, so it can't be pushed into the corner as advertised. The 4oz jar would be fine, I imagine - but avoid the 8oz if you have a typical 50 cigar humidor. I actually prefer the Xikar / Humi-Care power sticks, for 1/2 the price you can get two and they definitely fit well!

I'm using the Black Ice in my 100 count humidor. Not only does it maintain a consistent humidity level of 70, the ability to divide the sections is amazing. I just place one section at the bottom of each corner in my humidor. I use two hygrometers, 1 analog and 1 digital to ensure correct readings. Only fill the individual sections half full of distilled water. Within a small amount of time the gel beads will swell to the top. If you liked the round jar of humidifier gel. You will love the Black Ice much better.

I had been having some trouble keeping the humidity up around 70% in my year old humidor. I saw the mostly good reviews for this Black Ice and decided to give it a try. The 4 oz jars had a few specks of "little black rocks" in the bottom. After I added distilled water to the fill line, 15 minutes later they have swelled to fill each quarter jar. Twenty-four hours later I am right on at 70%. Been holding between 68-70% for over a week now. I also like the design that allows you to place them out of the way in the corners. Makes more room for cigars. This product works well.
Just received these and seem to give my humi the boost I've been looking for! I recommend the smaller 4oz size as the 8oz wouldn't fit unless I took out the top shelf medium size desk humidor. Time will tell if it is low maintenance, I'm thinking it will be, but even so, I alway check in on my babies everyday!
Love this product!

So far I haven't been able to test the humidification process due to my ham fisted approach to filling the sections. When I first got the Humi-Care, I thought that I had been ripped off. There appeared to be something looking like ashes covering the bottom of the jar. With no good instructions about how much to fill the jars, I ended up filling 3 of the sections to about 75% capacity and the last one 50% (all with distilled water). An hour later, 3 of the sections have popped their lids and the last one is ready to do the same. Whatever those crystals are made of...they are impressive. Moral of my story...start with almost no distilled water (maybe an inch at most) and see what happens. If I can put the crystals back into the jar, I'll report on the humidification aspects when it happens.
I absolutely love these humi-care jars. They are so easy and compact. I have a 100 count, two level humidor and needed a new way to reasonably keep both levels even. These are perfect.
I have the JFK Humidor, this product works great with it!
RR of Toms River, NJ
Buy this! Keeps perfect humidity. I have a small 50 count humidor and this keeps the humidity consistently at 66-70. Plus the benefit of only having to use 2 out of the four pieces to keep it right on target. Definitely a must have.
MH of Ruther Glen, VA
I love this product! The 4oz jar is perfect to add to the bottom layer of my 120 count humidor. I had a jar of crystals that was just too big to fit in with all my smokes. The 4 quarters fit perfectly to help evenly disperse humidity and I'm noticing more even distribution because of it. Keep in mind that these jars are relatively large. A 4oz jar would fit well as the only humidification device in a 20-50 count humidor and a great add on to a 100-150 count. I'm sure the 8oz is quite large and you would probably need a 250-300 count to actually fit them in and have enough wiggle room.

Works like a charm and the fact that it can split into four parts really saves space.
MB of staten island, NY
So you read the reviews and think, "no way does it work that good.", well it does. I charged two of the 4 pie slices and they are happily maintaining correct humidification in a 50 count humidor. The other reviews are spot on, these things are fantastic. The 2 way process is helping my humidor through the more humid time of year in my corner of the world. I'll admit I was about 95% skeptical when I bought this. I shouldn't have been. These black ice beads live up to everything I read they should be. Thanks CI for providing them at competitive pricing!

Maintains the humidity very well. I like the compact size and the ability to place them in the corners out of the way.
MT of Allegan, MI
These work great and save plenty of room in my humidor! A+
DJ of Bayonne, NJ
One of the best things since sliced bread. Easy, out of the way, use one part or all four, it really couldnt be much better for a passive humidification device, and its accurate. Just need distilled water on hand, no more solution or slim when gel starts to break down. This stuff is highly recommended
Works great, takes up very little room in humidor. As another writer said, it looks as though they did not put enough of the little black pellets in the container. But there are more than enough in there when you add distilled water. They will swell very fast so don't add too much water at first.
GB of Stuart, FL
I do not like it as much as the blue one for less money but it does work and it is convenient to split it up.
BK of Columbus, OH
I got the 8oz Black Ice Pie Jars on MMAO for a great price, although I thought I was ordering the small jars at the time. I prefer the 4oz size for the fit in my humidors, but will be using the 8oz for a new 150ct humi I have coming in the mail any day now. I have no doubt it will work perfectly to keep my special handmades at their optimum humidity level for long-term storage. Thanks to CI for great pricing and all the special deals, you guys get about 95% of my cigar needs business. Happy herfing!
CP of Edmonds, WA
These little guys are awesome. What a way to save space in the humi.
Nice way to humidify. After removing the lid that holds the 4 sections together they can be filled and placed in the corners of your humidor for a more balanced humidification. As others have mentioned only fill about half way or so with liquid otherwise the black ice will over expand and push the plastic cover out of place. Cheers!
DP of Austin, TX
Since it came with no instructions, couldn't figure it out at first. It would not fill, did not know you could pry the tops off. The holes just won't let water in. What I did was put a small amount of distilled water in the top where the holes are, and lightly tapped until the water went thru. Seems to work very well. Needs instructions.
I don't even know why I'm writing a review for this, everyone else has already said it all. Amazing product, and one of the few things I would consider a must buy (or at least must try) for everyone who owns their own humidor/s. Like everyone else has said, be VERY careful when charging the crystals as they are very easy to overfill. The first charge should only be a little less than half filled with distilled water/cigar juice.
ZH of Tempe, AZ
Pretty decent little things. Just fill with distilled water, and the black rocks I guess swell and keep my humidor at an even 73%-75% humidity. Easily refillable, and nice shape so it fits in even the tightest corners in your box.
RS of New Iberia, LA
This is the best humidification product I've ever used! After lots of trial and error I found that gel jars work the best for me since they are so low maintenance. But, the Black Ice jars work better than any other jar I've ever used. They keep a VERY consistent 70% humidity level in my 120 count humidor (I have one 8oz jar in it) and the added bonus of being able to put the 4 wedges in different compartments/corners means the humidity is even throughout. My jar has been in use for a little over a year now, and I'm pretty confident I can get at least one more refill out of it (each refill lasts me several months). As long as this product is available, I will never use another for my humidification needs. No need to repeat, but I will anyway: DON'T OVERFILL! Halfway is perfect, and what seems like nowhere near enough gel beads will swell to fill the jar in no time. Definitely allow the 30 minutes to pass before putting freshly filled jars in you humidor in case of an overflow, as an overflow could damage the interior. Cheers and happy herfing!

gets the job done for sure! 68-70 percent humidity reading all the time! great product!
RS of Ladson, SC
I purchased and used this product along with the wipes when first setting up my humidor. Has consistently kept my humidor at the right level..I sometimes remove this and put it in a new box of cigars that won't all fit in my main humidor
DL of Factoryville, PA
A very good buy got my humidor squared away and holding nicely only fill about half way as the media is veeery absorbent if your on the fence get off and buy this product boys it does the job
RM of Sunrise, FL
These should definitely have instructions with them. I received them today and like others, thought I got defective jars due to the very small amount of crystals in the jars. I knew they would swell, but didn't know how much so I filled them to the top with distilled water. Big mistake! Within 30 minutes they swelled so much they were pushing the lids off them. Also, before I filled them I just assumed I just needed to pour the distilled water through the holes in the lids. Water would not go through them. That's when I realized the lids came off. The corners of lid in my 50 count glass top humidor helps to keep the lids from getting pushed out by the extremely absorbent crystals....I just read numerous reviews and notice half way is the appropriate amount to fill to. I will definitely read customer reviews on anything I order from now on!
JB of Oswego, NY
Followed instructions let it fill, then in the humidor it went. Constant humidity as promised. I also got the big brother, be careful with either size and make sure your humidor is big enough to accommodate it. Overall what I've seen so far is great and well worth the money. Would definetly recommend.
JR of Derby, KS
Love the idea, but they need to make the individual sections lids snap in place. I overfilled a couple and when the crystals swelled they pushed the lid out.
RB of Omaha, NE
I keep each piece in the 4 corners of my 150qt marine cooler coolidor (there is pine in it,) with some beads to makes sure the humidity remains stable. Currently holding at 68% and that only ever changes by like a % a month. They last a long time between refills.
JF of Henderson, NV
This item is a must have for your desktop humidor; its sleek design makes it perfect at staying hidden yet keeps your humidor at just the right temp.
Does a great job of holding humidity! Love that you can split it up into 4 pieces. Makes it really convenient for humidor
CF of Steeleville, IL
Love it. Came in the mail. I opened, put in my cigar juice and placed in four corners of my humidor. There are 12 Gurkhas and 4 Ave Marias in there and the humidity went to 70% in about 3 hours. Two weeks later still there. Glad I bought this Black Ice.
JR of Muskogee, OK
Works great. Absorbs water like a sponge. Just be careful not to overfill it, the crystals can hold a lot of water. Great buy, they fit well in the corners of my humidor.
WW of Hamilton, VA
Awesome product. This mixed with cigar juice is perfect for maintaining a humidor. Works great and is holding perfectly.
SG of Marshfield, MA
I like this design in that it fits snuggly into the corners of my humidor; however, there were no filling instructions or line to denote how much water to add to each section. I would say filling these halfway with distilled water should be about just enough.
AG of Anderson, IN
These are great. Finaly a jar that can be split in 4 pieces. Great stuff
IS of San Francisco, CA
Great little addition for humidor
BG of Somers, NY
I love this keeps my humidor at 70 so easy to use
These things are Great! Perfect in any Humidor large or small, need more humidification add another 1/4, need less take it away. Small and easy to fit in the corner; out of the way. As always Humi-Care is great stuff.
JK of Porter Ranch, CA
Keeps the humidity in my 10 cnt humi at 69%. Great idea on the design to safe real-estate for more sticks. I would recommend giving it a try.
ML of Aurora, IN
Great idea and great size for my humidors. I would recommend using the cigar juice every other refill. Used two 8 oz to charge/season two new humidors (each holds about 100 cigars +/-). After the two week seasoning process, the humidors were ready to go. Just ordered my 3rd humidor and already have the black ice and the seasoning wipes ready to go. Wish i owned the patent on this product.
CF of Worcester, MA
received my black ice 4oz containers; each segment had a layer of black ice granuals on the bottom; is this normal for so few granuals? If so, I am assuming I fill the remaining space with distilled water; Correct?
Pretty good so far. A few things though, these suckers suck up a lot of distilled water or PG solution!! As other reviewers have said, only fill each section half-way up or even a little less with DW or PG Solution or it will swell up enough to push the tops off. Also, the sections, even from the smaller 4oz. jars will NOT fit in a small 15-20 capacity desktop humidor without laying them on their sides, like I do with mine. Just make sure you get all the unabsorbed liquid out of em' first if you have to do that. Would definitely buy again.
KW of Lillian, TX
Keeps humi at an even 69%, very user friendly
CI of Huntington Station, NY
Get product it works very well. The split size makes them easy to use also .
This is a good space saver for my humidor. I am able to put 2 pieces on one side of divider and 2 on the other in the middle with very little room taken. More room for my 60 ring cigars.
Seems to work well for my 150 box. Staying right around 65% in a full box.
JB of Livonia, MI
Great product!!
