Ramon Bueso Olancho Vintage

Dare I say, crowning achievement?

Although it’s only been a few years since Ramon Bueso’s first project, it feels like I’ve been waiting for decades. I, like many of you, am a huge fan of Bueso’s other blends. Genesis is still in my regular rotation, and there are few things finer than an Odyssey paired with a hot mug of coffee. But I’m greedy, and I want more. Well, finally, that wait is over. Ramon Bueso Olancho Vintage is here, and burning one of these feels like coming home from a long trip.

This is the cigar that Ramon always wanted to make, and his passion really shines through. All of the tobaccos in this blend are absolutely flawless, aged, handpicked leaves, with each cigar receiving personalized attention and care. So what's in this recipe? We've got an aged 2005 binder leaf from Talanga Valley, and a wide variety of long-filler leaves including selections from 2008 Nicaraguan Esteli, 2010 Honduras La Entrada, 2008 Honduran Jamastran, and 2003 Honduras Olancho. On top of all of that, the wrapper is a Colorado Oscuro Olancho, grown exclusively for this cigar. These leaves were purposefully fermented for a shorter amount of time than industry standard, and the experiment paid off with an absolutely unique flavor unlike any other cigar on the market.

Lighting this one up, I find a medium to full-bodied blend with blasts of earth, spice, leather, and cedar in a harmony that feels different than anything I’ve burnt before. Each cigar this guy puts out tastes better than the last, and with Olancho Vintage, we’re seeing Ramon’s finest work to date. I’d easily recommend this cigar to any enthusiast. Stock up, because with the rarity of these fine leaves, this is one limited release you absolutely don’t want to miss out on.

Excellent
Excellent cigar

Not Impressed
I would estimate that half of the cigars in the box had difficulty staying lit or burning evenly. Some even had voids running axially along the cigars length. Quite a let-down. Ramon's quality seems to have gone down hill over the past couple of years.

Presidente
Absolute perfection, length, construction, shape, aroma, smoke, taste and burn! I have smoked cigars for over 30 years now. Can't say I've smoked them all, but I'm giving it the old college try. Bueso is one of my favorite cigars of the multitude of smokes I've experienced. I am partial to the Presidente style and length. Generally, I smoke H. Upmann (Cuban or no), Hoya De Monterrey, Punch, etc. if you want a truly exceptional smoke and about an hour, IMHO you can't beat this cigar. Cigars International has an exceptional selection, great prices and excellent service.

I like it
Was recommended to me by a friend. Not only does it taste good, I had compliments (from other cigar smokers) on how well it smelled. Mark

Tightly Wrapped goodness
Every stick I've had has been good to start off and better towards the end. Very enjoyable.

Love the size...
I love the size of this cigar and the concept...BUT, the first one I smoked was just OK. I will give the rest some humidor time and I expect as with all Ramon Bueso cigars, it will get better. This is what has taken place with two of the other Ramon Bueso blends...the Odyssey and Genesis Habano (both of which I give 4 stars to).

Nice
Sweet cool start nice spicy end

Too loose
The cigars were not rolled tightly and could have used more tobacco. Definitely not a cool burning/long smoke. Wouldn't buy again.

Which Ramon Bueso is better?
Ramon Bueso just moved up to the top of my Christmas card list. Can't say that these are the best cigars in house Bueso because all of them are equally number ones. It is really hard to say one is better than the other. So I guess I'll do some more research.

One of the best
A simply fantastic cigar! I have had The Genesis Project before which is excellent. This one is even more smooth and flavorful in my opinion. The CI description is right on the mark. One of the best cigars I've had the pleasure of smoking. Highly recommended

Ramon Bueso
A terrific cigar and always constructed well, burns evenly and tastes great all the way through. Add CI pricing and it all comes together as an outstanding decision !

good not great
I think these cigars are worth the price charged, but not more than that. The rolling isnt the best, but I didn't have any draw problems. Flavor is good, mostly earthy, nutty cedar, but not memorable.

Ramon Bueso Olancho - GREAT CIGAR!
A friend gave me a RB Olancho Robusto to try and I was hooked, what a smoke! So I saw the CI deals on RBO and ordered the "Muy Bueso" Gordo. This is a great cigar, even in a big size! Wonderful volume and draw - even to the very end. RBO has great and unique tastes and flavor. Perfect pairing with a single malt scotch!

Depth & flavor
Really enjoyed within a few days off the truck. There is depth & flavor for sure, but I am taking the advice of some other reviewers and letting the others rest in the humi for a while.

Go for the Genesis instead of these if you want to try Ramon Bueso.
Let me start off by saying that I love the Ramon Bueso Genesis The Project, so I decided to try one of his other lines. I was very disappointed with this one. Based on other outstanding reviews its possible I had a bad batch or didn't let them sit in the humidor long enough? The flavor wasn't that great. The cap fell apart with both a guillotine and a punch. It was rolled so tight it was difficult to draw and stay lit. I wanted to like these because I loved the Genesis smokes, but I couldn't enjoy this one. Just bummed about this one, had high expectations and it didn't deliver.

Good balance, good price
This cigar certainly works for me. The cedar and leather is very prominent in the few that i have smoked. A good smoke that pairs well with coffee.

GREAT!
I'd never had a bad Ramon Bueso before these and these are very impressive as well. I hear the term 'oily wrapper' thrown around a lot, but I see it a lot less often. The wrappers on these really do have an oily sheen. These produce a nice thick smoke that coats the palate and can easily be smoked down to the nub. While I'm typically a fan of robustos and coronas, the next time around I'll definitely be ordering a longer version of these.

Best Bueso yet
Bought these as a gift. Recipient claims that the Olanchos are the best cigar to come out of the house of Ramon Bueso to date.

Incredible
Fantastic smoke. Smooth...creamy...delectible. All of Ramon's products are top notch. You cannot go wrong with this one.

A Very Good Cigar That Should Be In Your Humidor
I was torn on the rating. The flavor profile is leather and earth with light sweet spices and a hint of black pepper. The burn is cool with ample smoke. The cigars I smoked had a tendency to burn down one side; diligent rolling of the cigar helped keep he burn even. I like this cigar a lot. I don't think it merits a perfect rating but it deserves much more than four stars.

Olancho Vintage
This is an update to an earlier review.....I'm a big fan of The Project, so was looking forward to trying this one. I bought 2 boxes, and the 1st box was very disappointing (see above). I must have gotten a bad batch the first time as the 2nd box was quite enjoyable with none of the issues I had experienced before. I am into my 3rd box and they improve with a little rest. They are not as good at Genesis IMO, but all in all, they are a nice smoke and worth a try.

Silky Smooth
A very delightful cigar. Great construction and burn. Nice balanced flavor profile. Silky smooth with a med finish. Med to full flavored with no bitterness or harshness. Just a fine mellow smoking experience.

Blackraven
Just tried the new Olancho Vintage ROTT. This is a great cigar, after reading several reviews I gently clipped the cap so as to not unravel it. So far construction of this cigar is spot on along with a good draw and even burn; no issues there. The taste was great with just the right amount of spice and sweetness all the way to the nub, but do not set this thing down or it will go out quickly; you do need to watch this thing. Going to let the rest sleep in the humi for a while and see what they do.

Wasn't impressed
Maybe I got a bad batch. Smokes 1 thru 6 were rolled too tight. I spent more time struggling with them I never got a chance to figure them out for taste. #7 was a big difference from the others. Smoked even with a good draw. Kind of enjoyed it but I rather smoke a R&J 1875 Bully. #s 8 - 10 were relegated to smoke while riding the mower. They didn't stand out to me and I felt like I was going through the smoking motions instead of enjoying them. I'll skip on these from now on.

These cigars are a MUST try for any Bueso fan! Wow, the flavor is complex and oh so smooth. I am not finished with it until I feel the tips of my fingers burning!

Ramon Bueso Olancho
As with the rest of the line it seems that these sticks need a bit of age. Out of the box upon arrival I would have said I wouldn't buy again. After a month of age these sticks are spectacular. Don't hesitate to buy them! Great flavor and medium full strength. Let them age before you smoke them.

Class Act
A fan of "The Project" I expanded my Bueso sampling and grabbed a Box of 10 for a give-a-way price from "Joe"... Oscaro Olancho wrapper blanketing a supreme mixture of premium long fillers from Multi regions makes this... A Goodun

Have always enjoyed the Ramon Bueso brand and this one is a perfect full flavor bomb!! Will definitely be getting more of these

Big fan of RB
The Project is one of my top 10 ( probably top 5 ) and now the Olancho, while a different smoke , is just as good

Great smoke
Great smoke and burns nicely. Ramon Bueso came out with another great cigar

Disappointed
I really wanted to like this cigar....and there are things to like, but the glaring negative I found in every one I have tried, is the cap looks like it was added as an afterthought by a 3rd grader....every one of them cracked like a pine cone. I like to punch my smokes...they cracked, I tried clipping...they cracked... I have been thru a 10 count box, and every last one of them had the same problem, plus at least half of them were hard to keep lit. If you can get past that, it's a tasty smoke.

Another good cigar.
Certainly could not say Ramon Bueso was a one hit wonder, but, in my opinion, his first chapter (Genesis the Project) was his best, and, a bigger bang for my buck. Thanks Ramon.

Another RB winner
The RB Olancho Vintage has the same clean wrapper appearance and attractive roll that encouraged me to try their Genesis offering. I'm impressed yet again; the draw is even and rich, without harshness. The folks at Ramon Bueso know what they're doing, and deliver a superior smoke at fair price points.

Very good smoke
I am a fan of Bueso's cigars and was excited to try the new Olancho. I was impressed by the construction and appearance. Having only 2 weeks in the humidor, I was leery of how it would cut and burn. No worries. The burn was perfect, lots of thick smoke and the draw was on point. Flavor is complex, in fact it is hard to describe the flavor. This cigar is way more medium than full. All in all very nice cigar. I will be ordering more but it will not replace my other Bueso cigar. Genesis is still my favorite.

Well worth it!
Definitely a go to cigar for those who are looking for a clean smoke with lots of flavor and bellows of smoke. After receiving the box, I tried one off the bat ad not so impressed. However, letting them sit in the humidor for about 10 days certainly made a difference. Well worth the price.

Magnificent!!!
What a magnificent cigar! Full flavored yet smooth. Construction is impeccable with a firm ash. This has leapt into my Top 5 cigar list. Even with no aging in my humidor this is a delightful smoke. I will be buying more boxes for sure.

Amazing and delicious cigar!! A Must Try!!
I am a 60 ring fan and bought several bundles of the Genesis project 60 cigars when they first became available. I ordered a box and sample pack of the Olancho vintage cigars in 60 ring and was blown away by them. Very well made, even burn and oh so delish as well as different. The taste is incredible and can only think of how they will taste when aged in the humidor for a while. I ordered 2 additional boxes for that purpose. I have not tried the smaller offerings and to be honest, neither do I care to. Am more than happy with the 60 rings. Nice job Ramon. You outdid yourself on this one.

Grab 'em while you can!
Very nice cigar, especially at this price. Tons of flavor and rich creamy smoke. I smoked one ROTT and it tasted beautiful. These can only get better with age in my humi. That's why I ordered two more boxes. Get them at this price while you can because they are wholly worth it.

Cubanesque earthy, leathery smoke
Big fan of Bueso cigars. I recently bought a box of Habano's on special, and am enjoying them. I then tried a 5-pack of the new Olancho Village, which continues the fine Bueso experience. These are distinctly different but more closely resemble the original Genesis, while the Habano's are more sweet. These are medium-full, and to me the term "earthy" definitely applies, not very common in my experience. They are different, almost unique but in a good way, but very enjoyable. I think next time I may try the Muy Bueso size.
