A golden oldie.

When it comes to post-SCHIP-era monster deals on handmades, this one is a candidate for Cigarzilla. With prices this low, Puros Indios Viejo feels like the good old days. Fittingly, Viejo means "old" in Spanish....and these puppies are literally just that. Featuring aging you simply can’t buy - these sticks were resting in Rolando Reyes’ aging rooms in Danli for, according to PI president Carlos Diez, "literally 6 years." The blend is composed of top-grade Sumatra wrappers and lush Jamastran fillers. So why did Puros Indios release the hounds all at once? To beat the April 1, 2009 SCHIP cigar tax deadline, Rolando wanted to get every cigar in his factory on a boat to America (insert Neil Diamond music here) by March. You and me, well son, we’ll enjoy the benefits of this exodus....at least for a while.

Look, I know guys are split 50/50 on Puros Indios: some love them, some don’t. But if you’re in the first camp, jump on this now because for one, the price is shaq diesel and for two, the age on this cigar delivers an unmatched experience that’s at once bold and elegant. A medium bodied handmade with an earthy core complemented by a pleasant touch of sweetness. Smooth from beginning to end, given the quality and flavor coupled with the ridiculously low price makes Puros Indios Viejo yet another CI no-brainer deal.

Puros Indio Viejo
Just had time to smoke one, enjoyed it thoroughly. Have bought the Puros brand before and have never been disappointed. Will buy again.

Love that cigar!
I have been buying Puros Indios cigars for years and my most recent purchase of two bricks was confirmation of my love for them. Medium in strength with a good burn and ample smoke makes them a winner.

Decent but Not Exciting
I smoked about six of these. They smoke fine, they look a little ugly, but they taste pretty good. But I'm not excited when thinking about smoking them like I am for some other brands in my humidor. In their price range though, not too shabby.

My favorites!
I have been smoking Puros Indios (viejo) for many years and will continue for many more. Lots of flavor with an even light gray burn all the way to the last inch and I’m not even mentioning the price. What a jewel!

Questionable
A number had a difficult draw and often an uneven draw. Flavor was decent but probably not order again.

A nice medium smoke
I gave this a try given the maker has a good reputation. It turns out this is quite decent! For me it was a medium strength smoke and I prefer mild but overall it was not overwhelming so that is a plus. It was enjoyable although it did seem a bit soft so might need more aging. The smoke was smooth and even so it is worth trying!

My New Go To
Great every day smoke ! Wrapper is smooth as a babies bottom, veiny, but I will take veins over a thin wrapper any day ! Have another 20 coming. Absolutely NO ammonia or nicotine. No need to purge. Reminds me of a 858 put cheap, Thank You CI. !!!!!

My everyday Cigar
Puros Indios has been my everyday cigar for going on 3 years. It is a very good smoking cigar that gives the flavor I like without the price I don't like. I expect to continue smoking them as long as CI keep them in stock. Richard Miami Florida

Decent Smoke
I like these in my humidor. They're reasonably priced, burn fairly even and have a medium bodied flavor to them. Not the best but a good all around daily stogie!

Expectations too high
Many years ago I smoked the Puros Indios brand so when I saw this cigar I expected it to be like the original. The cigar is too mild for my taste. It is well made the draw is excellent burns evenly all the way down and only had to be lit once. If it were stronger it would be excellent.

Used to be a really good cheap, smoke
I’ve been buying these smokes for years. At some point they went from long filler to short filler, and now, although they taste okay, I end up chewing tobacco when I smoke. Not fun.

Spitting pieces
Taste OK, short filler means you are constantly spitting out pieces. Not acceptable.

Puros Indios Viejos by Rolando Reyes
This was my first experience with this cigar. I blindly bought a bundle of twenty, and smoked them all...save for the few that I shared with friends. Jamastran tobacco isn't for everyone, so I wanted their input on the cigar as well. The wrapper felt like velvet; this is a cigar that one could tell had been aged for quite some time. According to the catalog description, the filler (and possibly the binder and outer wrap) had been aged for around six years, so when they arrived, I felt they were ready to smoke and didn't need much, if any, extra time in my humidor. I lit one up as soon as they arrived, and could tell they had enough aging time within the first inch of ash, which is nice compared to receiving them and having to let them rest. As my herfing friends and I experienced this stick, we all concluded that these were delicious smokes, with the Jamastran filler having a taste unlike any cigar we'd had before. The first third had a sourness that wasn't unpleasant and backed off just before the second third, where a creamy smooth flavor and aroma took over. In my opinion, this may be why there aren't very many cigars on the market that use Jamastran filler; most avid smokers don't expect a cigar to start off with sour notes. I, like all smokers, have my "go-to" sticks, but also like to change it up from time to time. Neither I nor my cigar smoking friends had a problem with the first third. It was a newly welcomed experience. Not a single burn or draw issue in the bundle. The sticks felt loosely packed, which I concluded was due to the long aging process. Each could be squeezed on the foot without fear of tearing the wrapper. A very different, yet pleasant smoke indeed. The second third brought out the innate flavor even more. Soft on the palate, the Viejo filled the room with a surprising sweetness that made these a joy to smoke. During the final third, strength picked up a bit without losing the sweet flavor. Creaminess was still present, and the cigar remained cool; it wasn't a lip burner. With this blend, you won't have to sacrifice smoothness for strength. While being quite a different smoke in terms of taste, it was a truly enjoyable smoke with no burn or draw issues. If you are looking for consistency and something a bit out of the norm, I highly recommend the Puros Indios Viejo.

Puros Indios Viejo Corona
This is a favorite, not overpowering, and it goes great with a glass of red wine while working on my crpytograms and sudokus.
