Third time’s the charm
The first two Protocol blends are boutique bombshells, that’s no doubt. But with their third release, Protocol Themis, Juan Cancel and Bill Ives knocked one outta the park. Named after the Greek Titaness of law and order, Themis is the first mellower offering from the company, and one I can easily recommend.
Crafted once again in Erik Espinosa’s La Zona cigar factory (home of the popular 601 Series of cigars as well as the 94-rated Espinosa Laranaja), Themis features a silky smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper leaf up to. Complemented by Nicaraguan binder and long-filler, this golden beauty weighs in right around medium in body. Toasting it, you’ll find the classic hay and cedar flavors of Connecticut blends, with notes of coffee and black pepper that make this a perfect companion to your morning mug.
