Dark and delicious. Pinar del Rio is made in a smaller factory in the Dominican Republic. But unlike many of the neighboring factories, PDR cigars are loaded with flavor and boutique charm. Pinar Del Rio Oscuro employs a thick, dark Brazilian Oscuro wrapper overtop a rich blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers to create a medium-bodied profile that's loaded with flavor. Notes of coffee, cocoa, pepper, and a naturally sweet finish meld perfectly to create a cigar that's complex, smooth, and balanced.
I lit one up right off the truck and was a li'l disappointed, but after 3 weeks in the humi they improved a lot. They are smooth and I get the sweet/choc tatse they are said to have, it's not a lot though. To my taste this is a great medium cigar. A good buy and great tasting cigar.
I am a big fan of Pinar del Rio's, as I think they're one of the best bang for the buck cigars you can get. Just finished my first ever Oscuro and loved it right out of the packaging. Interesting complexity of flavors, which I haven't quite figured out. Will put the others that came with my order into the humidor for a bit and see what happens. I will definitely be ordering more of these along with the Fumas and Exclusivos. Pinar del Rio cigars are winners hands down.
I'm not sure if I got a bad one, but these were really not great. I was very let down by this cigar. Wouldn't stay lit, had a bad draw, and the taste was not for me at all. I didn't get any cocoa or sweetness what so ever. Maybe it was just an un lucky stick...
2 words... BUT IT!
The PDR Oscuro torpedo has a beautiful, oily, dark chocolate colored wrapper. The pack is super dense. Moreover, the flavor is sweet and rich with lots of cocoa and coffee notes. The burn is slow and strait on all 3 smoked so far. Awesomeness indeed. I'll be saving my pennies to buy a box.
Got these on special and very very happy. I feel like I got away with a steal. I'll likely be buying these at the regular price in the future ... Just wish I had got more when they were on special
The Oscuro wrapper gives this PDR offering its name. I have become a fan of the mysteriously dark leaf in the past months, smoking more than a few of these in the Toro size. I have consumed several boxes of My father's La Reloba Seleccion Oscuro Coronas in that same time, so I can say I like what the Oscuro wrapper can bring to the party. Deep, rich, earthy & more, Oscuro livens Ligeros or compliments Connecticuts. In the case of the PDR Oscuro, it tames the Liga Cubana No.2 & adds depth of flavor. It's complex, almost full bodied & a delightful after dinner companion. It is rolled just loosely enough to allow for scads of thick white smoke. If you like full bodied smokes, give Pinar del Rio Oscuro a try. 89/100
Great cigar. My all time favorite. Like having a cup of coffee ,black with a little sugar. Absolutely fantastic for my taste. Billows of creamy smoke as well. I see reviews regarding an uneven burn and I have that happen, as well, early on. I found that proper toasting eliminated that issue, " it won't burn right if it ain't lit right "
I've only been smoking cigars for about 6 months now, so yes, I'm a total newbie... I bought a sampler about a couple of months ago to try a selection of cigars that my local cigar shop doesn't have. Like most, I was pleased with the C.A.O.'s, 5 Vegas, etc... so I was a bit reluctant to try this PDR. But to be honest, I'm glad I did. I don't have a "smoke room" in my house, so my half open garage is where the smoke magic happens (it's winter, I'm in the mid-west, and we have a polar vortex going on - so yes, half open garage is the only option). As with each new cigar I smoke, I read the reviews for PDR and almost all of them spoke of it's bad burning and other woes. Luckily I didn't experience this. I smoked this stick to it's nub, and it was great from start to finish. Considering I payed very little thanks to CI's bundle, I'm very happy/satisfied. If you are keeping your PDR in your humidor for fear of a bad time, don't worry - it'l do it's job. I'm currently enjoying this stick with a hot cup of coffee, looking through my half open garage at a winter wonder land, with hopes that spring it's on its way!!
Starts out mild with little flavor then about 1/2 way, it gets a great medium flavor and aroma, but after aging in humidor I still get canoeing burn problems that detract on about 2 out of 3 of them....
Had one of these last night with a friend of mine, and I have to say that I went into this with a bit of reluctance. However, right after the first puff, I knew that this was going to be a delicious cigar. A bit of pepper up front, but died down within the first inch, and came back in bits while intermingling with notes of coffee and cocoa. Very balanced, very smooth, and just a very enjoyable cigar. Would highly recommend.
The PDR Oscuro Torpedo is one of my two most favorite cigars, the other being the Gurkha Centurion Double Perfecto. Each one has been an absolute feast of flavor, getting better as it burns. Smooth, rich like an Amaretto cheesecake or dark Sumatra coffee. I was about to order two of the Torpedo flight sampler packs, but decided on the Toro mega sampler..same blends in a slightly smaller size. The Oscuro Toro's were good, but I still love them in the Torpedo size. I like them so much, I just ordered two bundles of the Oscuro Torpedos since CI had them on a fantastic promotion. All my humidors are packed full right now, but I had to order these Torpedos since I don't know when I will be able to order two packages at this great price ever again. If I had the humidor room, would have ordered more. This has got to be one of the absolute greatest value deals ever offered by CI.
I've purchased over 150 PDRs in last 4-5 months due to outrageously low prices on samplers. The Sellecion is one of my favorite smokes. The Oscuro is not far behind. The Classico and SunGrown are good too. But, you have to let these guys get plenty of rest, at least 90 days, to get the best from them. It's like spring training, your stars may hit a buck ninety-seven.
Count me on the PDR bandwagon! What a great tasting cigar for the price. Don't light up in a confined space though because the foot on this baby pours smoke. Only smoked the toro so far but will try the torpedoes real soon.
Nice cigar with good taste. The draw was very easy and it made lots of smoke. I didn't have any issues with the burn, but it did crack some about a third of the way through. I thought it was on the milder side of medium. I got mine with a sampler, but I would definitely buy again.
I really like the taste of these but the burn/construction issues listed by others here have been present through the first 8 sticks of 20 that I received. Half were great with no isues what so ever and the other half had serious uneven burn issues and wrappers that got loose. Hopefully that's the last of that. Got these on a daily deal at an insane CI discount. The remaing dozen I have left will determine if I buy PDR Oscuro in the future.
Def: "A Keeper"!
Smooth, dark, and chocolatey! Great construction, no burn issues with this one. Will def get some more!
Ya!! these are great cigars. Burn nice and just ordered Pinar del rio limited. Shows most of these cigars are back ordered. Alot of mix tobacco to make these. Had some on back order also. Been buying from CI for years and thanks CI for the on time shipping. Great prices too.
Did I get a dud? Had trouble staying lit, decent burn though (when burning). I got the cocoa, coffee and pepper described in CI's write-up, which sounds nice, but I can't quite put my finger on why I couldn't get into this cigar. All the fan mail sounded good too. I guess you've gotta burn to learn.
WOW These babies are tops on no. 1 cigar. Buying from CI for years and they're on top of their game. get $1 cigars also and only 2 problems with ashes burning not right.
One of the best PDR's in my humble opinion. A great smoke. A definite box buy if you smoke alot.
I recently received three of the Pinar del Rio Oscuro Torpedoes as part of a Pinar del Rio Flight Sampler in a recent offer. I could tell you about how good looking and well constructed these cigars are (and they are both), or spend some time trying to describe how tasty they are (and they are very tasty) or maybe telling you how suprisingly mild and mellow they are (and they are) when an Oscuro might expected to be quite assertive and strong. But I won't do that. Instead I'll describe my reaction to the Pinar del Rio Oscuro Torpedo like this... Immediately after smoking the first one, I fired up the web browser and ordered two mazos of twenty. Can't offer a much higher endorsement for them than that. I consider these to be a first rate cigar and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. I plan to make them a staple in my humidor.
I've been smoking these for a while now, and they've become my favorite cigar. Ordinarily would be more than I'd want to spend, but when CI has them on sale I stock up. Great with my coffee or amaretto, and a fine smoke by themselves. Beautiful wrapper!
Yummy, Yummy, Yummy. nuff said! Torpedo
This cigar blew me away! Rich, chocolaty and smooth as silk. An absolute joy to smoke.
I really love these cigars! I bought 3 boxes of the toro's, and will miss them when they are gone. Makes me not want to smoke anything but Dominicans!
This is a very pleasant cigar and I bought twenty of them. As I type this I'm smoking the third one. The first one wouldn't stay lit and burned dreadfully unevenly. The second one again had a very uneven burn. I left the rest in the humidor for nearly a month just to see if they would 'settle down' a bit. The one I'm smoking now burns a bit better but nowhere near what I'd call even. I'll leave them in the box a while longer and see what happens. Too bad they're to much work to keep going....they're very tasty cigars.
I have to say that I was pretty impressed with this cigar when I smoked it, I had never smoked any of the Pinar del Rio cigars until the new PDR 1878 Oscuro's came out and then I decided to see how the others smoked. Much to my delight I enjoyed this one almost as much as the new PDR. I then bought the black box to see if they were any better and was very impressed with them as well. So now the PDR is in my humidor to stay. A very well built cigar with great flavor .
Picked up some of these on a daily deal and was very surprised at how well they burned, what a nice ash was created and what a nice easy draw it had. The taste was very smooth and enjoyable throughout. Best pleasant surprise of the week.
