Pinar del Rio A Crop Oscuro

A Crop earns an A+

Leftovers make for a good casserole, and PDR cigars are proving leftovers make a damned good cigar too. Sometimes in order to secure exactly what tobacco they’re looking for, PDR must buy more than they need, and instead of letting this surplus go to waste they decided to make a cigar brand from it.

PDR A Crop is a value-priced, bundle line of long-filler cigars that use the leftover tobacco from some of their high end brands. Coming in either an Ecuadoran Habano or Ecuadoran Habano Oscuro wrapper, the blends are finished with a Dominican binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican long-fillers. This medium to full-bodied line may be easy on the wallet, but it doesn’t skimp on the rich and balanced flavors. There’s no time like the present to pick up a bundle or two of these delicious treats before word gets out on how good these are.

The A Crop by far is the worst stick in my humidor. I get a kick out of giving them to friends of mine who smoke a lot to see how long it takes before they chunk them. One guy made it to the end of the second third. I and several others threw them out when entering the second third. The burn isn't great. They tend to run or tunnel. Taste is odd. Reminds me of burning garbage! With this being a one noted stick that burnt taste is quite long lasting. I have been aging 20 in a box for fun to see if it will develop. Now there are some things vs that are good. The sticks appears to be well made, minimal veins, and I believe it has a double cap. Draw is slightly snug for good resistance, and that is about it.

Not impressed to say the least
Let me be the first to nay say. If you are looking for a stick that is one note, runs like the Indianapolis 500, and tunnel burns on nearly every stick look no further. The only way to enjoy this is to let them dry out till nearly brittle. I smoke cigars daily from Perdon to CI knockoffs. You would be much better off buying the knockoffs. By the way this is not a full. I guess it could go for med-full at its best. PDR makes much better than this. I hope this real review helps.

Had the toro before, so
Had the toro before, so my expectations were met. Construction, burn, flavor, and consistency were all met. Really great smoke for the money. Impressive...

A wonderful surprise of a cigar!
A "freebee" from Cigarfest that knocked my socks off. Both the claro and obscuro have become my go to sticks. Like the Grandma car that you don't expect to smoke it's tires, this plainly wrapped gift could easily be ignored at first sight. Don't let the simple black and white band fool you, it's a winner!

Good smoke
Big Pinar Del Rio Reserve Limitada fan, figured I would try these out since the price is excellent for a full bodied. Bought two bundles and so far have not had a bad stick, good draw, nice ash, even burn for a 60 gauge which is nice. Flavor is average but expected with the price. The rating of full body is on the weak end, not like some of the other PDRs as far as strength. I would recommend and will buy some more in the future.

Tasty
Wow! I’ve read reviews on PDR’s and always wanted to try them. So, after reading the description I figured there was no better time to try than now. I’m not sure I’ll buy any other bundles besides these. Three words…Full; Tasty; Oily. Great Smoke from the roota to the toota!
