Padilla La Pilar

A 'pillar' in the industry.

Padilla cigars and 90+ ratings go together like mac n’ cheese, like bread n’ butter, like Sonny n’ Cher…err on second thought scratch that last one. You get the picture though, Padilla cigars are good, really good, and at their modest prices they may just be the best bang for the buck going.

Padilla La Pilar hails from Tabacalera Aguilar in Honduras, the factory responsible for Padilla ’68. This gem is sharply box-pressed and features an Ecuadoran Habano Oscuro wrapper atop a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican long-fillers. This tasty morsel is well-balanced, medium-bodied, and offers hints of pepper and earth with some sweet notes on the finish. Pick up a box today, and see for yourself why Padilla cigars have been a best-seller here for over a decade.

Padilla La Pilar has recently earned a 91-rating in Cigar Aficionado. They noted: "This well-made, box-pressed robusto has a rich chocolate color and smokes easily, delivering notes of cedar and cocoa that build to a toasty finish."

Just okay
I like the blend of tobaccos however, the construction is not as firm as it could be and the burn is very erratic. With almost every cigar it is well nigh impossible to keep an even burn which results in relighting and decreasing the taste that one enjoyed at the start. What could have been a 4-star rating is a 3-star (and should probably be 2 stars, except I did like the initial experience; maybe I’m an easy rater).

Good is still good, even when it isn’t great
There was a lot of hype around these when I ordered my box this past May. At first smoke, they seemed very nice… but for the rating they received and enthusiasm surrounding them, I think they are being touted better than they actually are. They’re certainly not bad, just not great. I found my batch particularly smoky, and the ash a bit too flaky. The pepper kicks in the longer you smoke it, but I found nothing smooth about the first portion of the cigar. Others seem to have a more enjoyable experience, but I am going to look around some more…

Eddie Avenue
Great cigar, very well constructed - great robust flavor. Earthy Maduro, with a wide spectrum of flavors. Happy to see Padilla taking the time to make something special - Cuban like in taste. I dare to compare to a Padron 1964. Thank you Eddie

Great Smoke!
Really enjoyed this new blend. This tasty morsel is well-balanced, medium-bodied, and offers hints of pepper and earth with some sweet notes on the finish.
