Mac Baren Original Choice has a reputation for being one of the easiest smoking of all the Mac Baren aromatics. It begins with extra-sweet US-grown Virginias and subtle, nutty Burley from Tennessee. There's a fair amount of their signature black Cavendish to add flavor and a touch of spice. A smooth top dressing is added to give the blend a great room-note and the flavor is pleasantly sweet. It may not be your original choice, but it's a good one!

Bought from CI and received super jiffy quick with free shipping. Original Choice is part of the Mac Baren Classics line and has been in their line up for decades. This one is advertised as a mixture of Burley, Virginia, and the Mac Baren "modern Cavendish". You open the tin and you realize this is going to be good. OMG, the aroma is like fruitcake and rich gooiness - you want to chew this one. Above average moisture and this one was packed a year before I received it. No deductions here so far. Packing was fine and the char light had great expansion. I started to get really into this one. Let's talk about pipe smoking now. Wow, great smoking experience. It tingles the tongue with a smooth finish. Leather, fruit of some kind, and maybe cocoa came thru for me. An ever so slight bite that resulted in a half ratings point reduction was noted and a bit of trouble staying lit. No big gurgle. Great smoking experience. Room note is engaging yet different from just about any other tobacco I have tried. I have smoked this Original Choice as my Only Choice for awhile. It just is a great tobacco. Bottom line: this is a great aromatic that delivers the goods with a 4.5-star rating. This tobacco is in my permanent rotation and I just go back to it every now and then and fall in love all over again. You will too.
