EP Carrillo just can’t miss, and his new La Historia line extends the streak even further. Created to honor all of the members of the Perez-Carrillo family who’ve supported and enabled Ernesto to perfect and continue his craft over the past decades, La Historia is a fitting tribute. Gorgeous, ornate artwork and a blend that was selected for the perfect marriage of texture, flavor, and balance, La Historia employs a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers. Rich, chewy flavors coat the palate before you’re hit with subtleties of roasted nuts, espresso, black pepper, and dark chocolate. Just a hint of sweetness on the finish adds the perfect balance. It’s sensory overload, and it delivers in spades.Great News! In addition to earning the #2 Cigar of 2015 spot, La Historia by E.P. Carrillo recently earned the #24 Cigar of 2021 with a 92-rating noting: "It returns to our list with its bold, flavorful blend, redolent of coffee, wood and earth, even a touch of briny olive."
A bought a box a few months back and couldn't wait so I smoke one ROTT. While it was decent at the time, it was nothing special. However, I believe in giving these things more time. With some rest The La Historia is a fabulous smoke! Very glad I picked up a box. I have had probably 3-4 since the first and with the rest they really are that good as the CA rating says. Try them, but be patient! The blend used really makes this cigar stand out.
I purchased a 5-pack for starters and loved it just as I have any other EP Carrillo, but this cigar struck me as being a bit better, so I purchased a box of them. So long story short, this cigar is on monthly auto shipment. It says this cigar is medium-full and I think they were spot on. It's not full but it has a lot of flavor to make up the fullness. I smoke this cigar daily, a must try.
Full bodied, but with great balance and not a hint of harshness. This is now a mainstay in my humidor.
This is a wonderful smoke! Nice, smooth, medium to full flavor with hints of coffee and leather. I liked it so much I bought two boxes.
What a great smoke! Full bodied, burns evenly and great aroma. The flavors evolve as you smoke and it when you think it doesn't get better, it does. Can't beat this 96 rated cigar for price, quality, or value. Best smoke period for the price.
I bought a box of 10 sight unseen, based solely on being CA's #2 cigar of 2014. Box and presentation are beautiful. Not a great smelling cool cigar. Very earthy mixed with slight cocoa and coffee bean. I wasn't dying to smoke them right away, and put them on a shelf in my humidor for a month or two. Here's where the fun began.... Wow, great smoke. Draw was perfect, if anything a little on the light side (think Padron here), cocoa and coffee bean flavors. Smoke production was large and very creamy. Overall a great experience, definitely on the dark side of things, but very smooth.
I'm a novice when it comes to cigars, but of the few cigars that I have smoked I know this is one that I will come back to time and time again. I chose it because of the rating on CA, not knowing what cigars to choose and would recommend it to anyone just getting into cigars. The initial presentation was attractive. The construction and burn were exceptional. The taste was smooth and pleasant. You don't need to keep going back to it right away because the finish is long, at least in my opinion. To top it all off, it lasted at least an hour and thirty minutes. Take hour time and enjoy the experience.
Outstanding smoke. Highly recommend this in your humidor.
For starters this cigar has a beautiful presentation. Great double band and satin cap on the foot. Very nice looking; looks and feels well made. Seemed a bit "soft" and squishy. Nice pre-light tobacco aroma. This was the "toro" (6.1 x 50) size. Lit up well and burned nice and straight throughout. Ash was a bit flaky, but firm. Very easy draw, but not "too" easy, if you know what I mean. Large amounts of nice smelling smoke from beginning to end. Very favorable cigar. Definitely dark-chocolatish notes along with a smooth tobacco flavor. I would classify this as more of a medium cigar (for me anyway). At times coffee/espresso flavors popped in and, when they were together, it reminded me of when you sprinkle that unsweetened cocoa powder into a cup of coffee at one of those coffee shops. About halfway through, started picking up what I noted was a "toasty" flavor. This may be what the ad-blurbs call "roasted nuts." To me it was more like a nice piece of wheat toast. Also very nice. In the last quarter it showed some spice with a bit - but not too much - of a nicotine kick. The stick lasted a good long time. Longer than would have expected given the softer construction. Great finish throughout and pleasant aftertaste long after the cigar was finished. One reason this cigar should last you a while is that the finish is so good, there was no need to puff again right away. Had some red wine after the cigar was done and a bit of chocolate and as soon as I did that, I wish I had had them while I was smoking -- that would have been a great pairing I think. AFTER I smoked it, I looked up the reviews and to my surprise I had just smoked the #2 Cigar for 2014 according to CA (albeit in a different size). Also surprised that the ad-blurbs are pretty darn accurate!
I bought a few of these well before #2 cigar of the year honors. Smoked my first one Christmas morning 2014. I picked these up solely because of their beautiful presentation, as I am not a big E.P. fan. This cigar is absolutely awesome in every respect. Burn, draw, construction, appearance, and tons of flavor. This is a true masterpiece, with a beautiful band, if you're into that. I don't agree with most "Top 25" ratings, but I think this cigar earned the spot. Highly recommend.
