John Bull The Dark Hour

The Dark Hour is upon us...

When you want to feel like a snob or impress your friends & colleagues, you might reach for an ornate, pricey cigar. But what about when you just want a great stogie to puff on and really enjoy? Smart aficionados looking for smooth, balanced flavors and great construction that won't break the bank reach for John Bull. The Dominican-made gems might not look as pretty as the major labels, but one puff and you'll always want to keep these on hand.

John Bull Dark Hour is the first follow-up to the original John Bull, a CI Nation favorite. Handmade in the Dominican Republic, The Dark Hour wears a rich & oily Maduro wrapper over Dominican-grown long-fillers blended to produce a medium-full bodied profile of espresso, roasted nuts, and earth. This isn't a spice bomb, but the flavors will sit nice and heavy on your palate, and will pair well with any drink you decide to enjoy on the side. So go ahead, grab a box of John Bull The Dark Hour, and enjoy premium deliciousness for a fraction of what the big guys charge.

average smoke
Quality was above average, nice wrapper, flavor was ok, draw was medium a little tight at times.

Inconsistent but good on price.
Nice presentation and aroma. Light on flavor. Also, filler had too many stems and inconsistencies for me. OK on value but I’ll pass next time.

Sleeper smoke
Great quality sticks, nice flavors and smoke evenly. Get you some and you will really enjoy them. Go great with a glass of bourbon !!!!

Love it!
I’ve been looking for a “cheap” cigar to smoke when doing things around the house and i think I’ve found something beyond that... This cigar is beautifully constructed and flavorful for the price or even a bit more. Definitely a few steps above a “yard gar.” Nice long white ash, dark and flavorful straight out of the shipping box. Enjoying with a cup of black coffee on this amazing fall evening. Don’t hesitate to pull the trigger on these!

For a Medium its not
For a Medium its not bad!! Im a full bodied smoker but these are on the cusp, God burn w/straight ash and not dry and harsh. Kinda earthy w/bold oak like some bossier cigars! A good find for me

Fairly robust cigar more like a 3.7
Fairly robust, with a nutty flavor and hickory finish. It is rolled pretty well and burned perfectly. The aroma of the stick was powerful. I wasn't sure what to expect with this cigar but I was not disappointed. Overall a good smoke especially for avid cigar smokers. I don't think I would recommend this cigar to somebody who is just starting out but to experienced palettes I would.

Good cigar
Good cigar at a great price. Flavor is smooth with a thick smoke. Burns fast so it is a short smoke.

The flavor is very smooth. The only draw back for me is that it burns too fast.

Pretty great!
I never had a John Bull before, let alone a John Bull The Dark Hour. They were smooth and pretty tasty, had a nice burn and I’m incredibly happy with the purchase. Not too kicking like other Maduros I’ve had. I highly recommend them for anyone who likes dark cigars looking to expand their palate and not try to break the bank doing it.

Nice Smoke
Flavorful & solid wrap make for an economic daily smoke. Only negative is it tends to unwind at the top prematurely but not hard to fix

Solid value stick
Oily, sometimes needs a delight, but a solid, flavorful value. Highly recommend for a daily stick.

worth trying
deliciously acceptable in an affordable range. The taste and aroma is definitely similar to the Sinclair 55 maduro. The smoke is thick and helps with the irritating insects of Northern Michigan. The flavor is quite mild and the aroma is medium in strength and delightfully pleasant (actually the aroma is more gratifying than the flavor, but you can't always get a Partagas without ordering one). If you like the full flavor and aromatics of the darker cigars, this is a likely contender for your garden variety mosquito chaser. The price is nice as well - give it a try (I started out with a 5pack and escalated my purchase the following month into the churchill size, for a full box).

Pleasantly Surprised
These are really good for the value. Most would consider it a "yard gar" but there's a lot of flavor and a lot of smoke packed in these. I picked these up cheap on a sale and had low expectations, but have been happy with their flavor and quality. I would gladly buy them again.

Good quality cigar, just not for me
I am a HUGE fan of the Connecticuts, and was excited to see the maduro come out. I gave it 3 stars not because it wasn’t a good cigar but because it simply wasn’t for me. If you are a fan of the La Palina Black then you will love it because it actually tastes better (less of the plastic taste) with identical smoke output.

Perfect
Best Sunday afternoon, smoke

Well.....
Not bad per say. If you like the Palina Black you will like it. If you don’t it will just be plastic tasting smoke. I am a huge fan of the Connecticut.

Not Bad
It was a decent smoke. Good for an afternoon break

Kind of soft
I liked the cigar flavor but it was kind of soft.

More flavor than the regular John bull
While I won't be mistaken for a top shelf cigar it's definitely a half step, maybe a whole step even above yard gar. Honestly, this is probably a three-star cigar oh, maybe even three and a half Stars. The catch it on sale and its a 4 star!

Freebie
Got this 5 pack as a freebie. Would consider buying them again. I like to smoke every day if possible. This one fits the bill. Quick smoke (like 30-45 Min)
