The definition of simple!
Simply dip a HUMI-CARE Portable Humidification pillow in distilled water. The pillow expands as water is absorbed, then slide pillow into its plastic sleeve and place in your humidor or travel box. Boom! Instant humidification. Reusable 2-3 more times. Then toss and grab a new one.
This is a set of 10 HUMI-CARE Portable Humidification Pillows.
I am not sure that these keep a specific humidity level or not. I haven't bothered to measure it; however, I do know that they seem to work pretty well. I was having humidification problems in my small humidor and was waiting for the "stick" to come back in stock. I ordered these, stuck 2 or 3 of these in the humidor and the problems disappeared. Now that I have the "stick," (also purchased from CI), I have absolutely no problems. I took these out, and about a month later, they STILL haven't dried out completely! I re-soaked one and used it to keep some cigars humidified that I mailed to a friend in the military serving overseas. He said they arrived in great shape, and the humidification pillow was still well-charged when he got the cigars about 2 weeks later. I have 9 more of these babies, so he may be getting a few more shipments from me. And I will probably keep a few for my own portable humi, because I see you can use them over and over if you keep the pouch clean. Great little invention!
Last forever and can be re-soaked. Less exact than Bovedas but far better for travel, especially when I am gifting someone.
I use these when giving cigars to friends or when I want to isolate something from my humidor or coolidor such as Infused sticks. Seem to be fairly stable. I have measured them at anywhere from 67-71% in one of my humidors about half full and I am in a very arid environment.
I picked up a pack of these little things and use them in my travel case. I took a cider liner off of one of my cigars and put it on the bottom of my travel case (cider lined travel case) then I put the humi-pillow on top of the liner. It works great.
Simple to use, cheap, and a great way to humidify backup humidors and short-term storage options. Worth it to have a few on hand just in case. Effective, but remember to use more than one if you aren't getting the desired humidity.
My guess is that everyone has a mish-mash of assorted humidification devices spread throughout their collection of humidors. I know I have everything from sponge bars & crystal rounds to HUMI-CARE's corona sized "Power Stick" guarding my precious puros. Far & away, the easiest way I have found to solve most humidification problems encountered, is to keep an ample supply of new & used HUMI-CARE Portable Humidification Pillows on hand at all times. Working alone or in unison with other devices, HCPHPs are easy to charge & recharge, have a "set it & forget it" reliability & are a great bargain. A $10.00 investment, plus the cost of a gallon of distilled water & you could conceivably keep up to 250 cigars in peak smoking condition for as long as the rechargeable crystals absorb liquid. In my experience, well cared for & properly maintained pillows will last for years! A bold statement I know, but I have several pillows from 2010 that are still in service. One trick is be sure NOT to use tap water, but only distilled water or a 50/50 propylene glycol solution for charging & recharging. I wash out the sleeves each time I recharge the packets, which keeps the sticky discharge from normal evaporation from building up & making a mess. Your efforts will be rewarded with perfectly humidified stogies for far less of an investment than the space hogging evaporation devices & fans of your "Dad's" generation.
I use these as my on the go humidification, takes only secs to toss one in some distilled water let it soak it up and your ready to go.
Been using these for 8 to 10 years now and they do perform quite well. As others have said you can throw one in just about anything that is reasonably air tight and they will do the trick. I used distilled water for mine but you can certainly use the glycol solution as well. In an age of environmental consciousness I should also mention that they are definitely reusable. I have a number of them that I have been using for years. Just pour some water in an empty plastic bowl, throw in the discharged pillow, wait till they're nice and plump and they are ready for another few months of caring for your precious cigars.
Excellent source for humidity, plus it takes up less room in the humidor. Very important for traveling humidors too.
I added these little babies to the humidor after I seasoned my Cigar Mosaic humidor and it is holding steady at about 70%. Cheaper than the Boveda packs, but do not put my cigars at risk. Will continue to use these!
Great product. Easy to use, easy to maintain, and when you are finished, you just throw the old one out and replace with a new one. Great price for the quality of the product.
These pillows are excellent! They hold the 'charge' for a long time. I use them both in my humidor and travel types. It's cool to see them expand. Just make sure to ALWAYS use distilled water. Boiling your own water is not distilled. BUY it. Many times on sale for one dollar a gallon.
Works very well great in jars humidor
Perfect for the Holiday cigar zip-locks I am putting together for family and friends.
I have used these for years. They work great and are easy to use in any container.
These are awesome!! I tossed one in a Ziploc bag and took out a cigar to smoke. I cheated, I left it in only 19 hours. But what a difference!! It smoothed out the cigar and was an easy light. Simply amazing. I can hardly wait to see what happens when I leave them in longer.
Considering the price, you can make a case for these technological wonders being the most cost effective way to keep your investment in good cigars in premium condition. I recommend using cigar juice for keeping the glycol crystals in the best shape & allowing for repeated refills. I have a few that I have been using for several years. They work wonders in small humidors. I attach one or two pillows to the lid of a ten or twenty count box & can maintain a constant 68-70% humidity, for months at a time without sacrificing the space a round or rectangular device takes up. Toss one or two into any humidor you are having trouble keeping a constant level of humidity & the problem is solved immediately. Travel or even makeshift humidors are perfect places to use these humidification pillows. A double sawbuck investment in 10 pillows & a bottle of cigar juice will give you months & months of protection for every precious puro in your collection. Give 'em a try & see if you don't agree that H-CPHPs are worth their weight in gold!
Work great. Very pleased with these!
These are great in my CAO Travel Humidor. A must have for perfect humidity released.
These little bags work GREAT in a glass sealed jar, which I then put on the floor in a cool, closed closet. I use them to humidify 15 -20 cigars. I hadn't thought about using them on a black eye after wifey see's the CI receipt but, that is also a GREAT idea (or hey, just destroy the receipt)!
These things are absolutely awesome! I picked some of these up on level from Afghanistan, then stuffed two into a small humidor I took back to Afghanistan (in late-June of 2010: the hottest part of the year where I was and the humidity was 25-40% on average). These things maintained humification (via a small experiment) in the same small humidor I travelled with for approximately 5 months now. These two packs still are somewhat plump and working as we speak, even back in Ohio where I am now. I must buy for small humidors; you cannot beat the price.
I just recently used VB's suggestion with the water pillows. I placed an order at CI and realized I was going to be limited on space for my smokes. I placed a single water pillow dipped in distilled water into an old cigar box. A week later the cigars are properly seasoned and I have yet to refill the pillow. Another great product from CI!!! Thanks..
Want to save a few bucks? Pick up these little humi pillows and grab one of those nice empty cedar cigar boxes, drop one in and you've got a great travel humi. Also good for putting on a black eye after your wife finds your C.I. sales sheet folder. The springs in this couch suck....Ahhhh, but my cigars are fresh.
