Gurkha Hudson Bay

Explore this new beauty from Gurkha…discover delicious, dirt-cheap handmades.

In creating Hudson Bay, Gurkha owner Kaizad Hansotia hand-selected aged tobaccos of optimum quality as usual. But this time, he also honed in on one other very important detail: sharpening the pencil on price. The outcome is magnificent and Gurkha’s Hudson Bay is a true anomaly. How could a cigar composed of such fine tobaccos cost so little? It's a head-scratcher.

Handcrafted in one of Nicaragua’s top factories with a Cuban-seed Nicaraguan long-filler recipe, Ometepe binders, and a muscular, leathery San Andres wrapper, this lovely, densely packed premium burns slow and cool with a bold, rich bouquet. Medium in strength with enjoyable notes of leather, earth, black pepper, and espresso delivered in velvety-smooth fashion. Delicious. Deeply discounted. Deserving of a permanent stay in your everyday rotation.

I have purchased Hudson Bay several times and they have been very consistent. Smoke, taste, construction are good, I would recommend this cigar and will continue to purchase myself.

Excellent value
The Hudsen Bay is a nice mild-medium smoke. The contruction is good and I've never had a burn issue. While it wont blow your socks off, you get a smooth smoke with a bit of nuttiness and consistency throughout

Great cigar, great price
Discovered the Gurkha Hudson Bay Torpedo on a whim and now they are a main stay in the humidor. Cigar burns even and slow holds together like a champ and has great flavor from tip to nub. Great cigar and a great value!

Great flavor and aroma
Excellent aroma, excellent flavor and very enjoyable. The burn was for the most part even with the exception of needing 1 correction. Paired with a Balvenie Caribbean Cask, you can't go wrong. Well worth the price and I would buy it again.

Hudson Bay Toros
This is a great smoke! The cigars burn evenly, they are mild and the box was well worth the price. It might be my new "go to" cigar.

meh
I was recommended these cigars by a friend. They are okay, not as great as he made them out to be. The big ring is just an annoyance to me.

Not a good run so far
Loved the Hudson Bay when they were first introduced. This box has been disappointing, the very first day I received them I joyously lit one up. It burst on 2 sides, maybe shipping, next 2 were plugged for at least a 1/3 of the cigar. I really loved the taste but this last batch.....

What you expect from a gurkha
A very good smoke. Very flavorful and smooth. A great cigar for regular smokers who are both picky and knowledge as well as for someone who have never smoked a good cigar.

Very nice Smoke. I think I have a new everyday smoker. My wife likes (well as much as she likes any cigar) the smell of these.

so very dry
The first one I opened fell apart it was so dry. Had only been seven weeks since I ordered them. Contacted customer service and was told 'sorry, it has been longer than 30 days'. Do not buy these if you want to enjoy your smoke.

Gurkha Hudson Bay Robusto
Not bad but heavy on the peppery flavor. A decent inexpensive cigar for when you sit and worry about your money I guess.

So-so
Not too crazy about these. Good price, but they lacked flavor, and tasted bland to me. They're better with some good liquor on the rocks.

GURKA HUDSON BAY TORO & A MARGARITA
I started smoking cigars in 1984 and I have never mastered the art of deciphering the various flavors within. But, I know what I like and this is a great cigar. It's wrapped tight enough to hold it in your teeth yet it is easy to draw. The ash burns to about 2 inches before dropping off, and the plentiful smoke is reasonably mild and slightly spicy. I would compare it a Hoya Da Montery Excaliber. I enjoyed one today with a margarita while grilling rib eyes.

Awsome Smoking Experience
Best cigar ever. I'm relatively new to the cigar world, but have tried many different quality cigars. I would put this right up there with Diesel Unlimited and AVO XO which ate my favorites to date. Great draw very firm medium, and guys, you really can't beat the price.. Recieved shippment in 4 day so can't beat the convenience, also. Thanks CI

They are one of the best Torpedo's that I've smoked, hope they're still around when I order next time.

Really Pleasurable Smoke
These are one of my favorites and while the pack on this was slightly loose they still burn correctly and give the same satisfying smoke. They are on the medium side of mild but one of my go-to choices when I visit my humidor.

Good tasting spiciness, even burn, medium bodied, and medium strength. Smokes slow and retains flavor throughout. A pleasant surprise with a reasonable price point.

High expectaions met
When ever I light any Gurkha cigar I have high expectations. The Hudson Bay Torpedo meets those expectations nicely. It's well made, draws well and has a wonderful medium bodied taste.

Hudson Bay
A very enjoyable smoke for the price. The roll was acceptable and the draw was good. After cutting the ends the outer wrapper unravels which is a nuisance.

A great smoke!
This is just a great all around smoke. It’s mild enough for a breakfast cigar yet full enough to enjoy at the end of the day. It’s become my new go to cigar.

Very good Churchill
I am on my third box. Construction is great, burn is above average, taste is really good (subjective of course). The reason I give it four stars is that the strength can vary from one stick to the next.

Just okay
In fairness to this cigar, I received it as part of a sampler package, and there are two in this sampler. After two weeks in a humidor, I note the following: 1) the draw was a bit tight, although the construction was excellent.2) The burn was even, but the flavor was just okay, with some leather and pepper notes. As others have recommended, I'm leaving the next one in the humidor for awhile before smoking it, hoping that the flavor will improve.

humi time
Pulled the trigger on a daily deal of toro Hudson bay box of 20. ROT I was not to impressed with this cigar; it did not have much flavor. After reading some reviews I let them sit in the humi for 2 wks, and boy let me tell you a much better flavor profile emerged. Notes of crème, nuts, and spice come to mind along with a little earthy taste. Gonna give them a month to rest before I try another. If you buy these they are great cigars, but not off the truck. Give them time in the humi first and you will be rewarded in spades!!!!

The last cigar on my humidor
Thought about calling and returning. Terrible draw. Ended up drilling hole to make it smokable. Taste is ok if you manage to get a decent draw.

Patience
When I first received these I thought they were a little rough around the edges so I put them in the humidor for a couple of months, what an improvement. Now they're a very smooth smoke and I am enjoying them.

Spongy Feel
Decent tasting cigar, but 4 out of 4 (so far) were losely rolled so I got a center burn all the way to the nub. Seems to be a common practice among manufacturers when they make a low end cigar.

Awesome Cigar!
Just received my box of 20 Robusto, I've smoked 2 so far right out of the box, and I have to say I love them! Wonderful smoke, slow burn, and very mellow. Definitely recommend these.

A slow starter.
Even after a week or two in the humidor, I was not too impressed with this cigar, I kind of wrote them off. About 5 more weeks of rest in the humidor, I tried another. It was a completely different cigar, not too complex, but rather tasty. A very slow burning cigar which seems to be made very well.

Customer Testimonials
My preference has, except for a period of preferring Partagas sticks, been blends that are a bit fuller in flavor, usually opting for Maduro wrappers. This stick, a torpedo, was a pleasant surprise. Definitely in the Medium range, it is my new favorite in that category. Prelight draw was excellent, lit easily, and immediately produced large quantities of smoke and a distinct leathery flavor. Toward the middle, the flavor switched to pepper for about an inch, then the leather returned and became mixed with light pepper until it got too short/hot to hold. A quality cigar that should be tried by anyone who likes a Medium strength cigar, which now includes me.
Saw this in a weekend deal and bought a box of robusto (my first box purchase!) without having had tried one prior to purchase; I was nervous in case I didn't enjoy it. Much to my relief this is an absolutely wonderful cigar and I get much enjoyment from smoking them. Excellent construction, excellent flavor, even burn. Wish I bought the Churchill size because I almost always want to light up a second one after I smoke the first one down to a nub, they're that good!
This a good smoke considering they are lower priced thAn other Gurkhas. I tried 1 ROT and was disappointed, but after 2 weeks humi time they were much much better. The peppery note is kinda strong at first, but after 2/3 mins it mellows out. If ya like Gurkhas, you can't beat the taste and quality in this one. Very well made, good taste and aroma. A WINNER for the $$.
These cigars are great for every day smoking. My second order on Gurkha Hudson Bay, and the price is very reasonable for a Gurkha.
I ordered a box of Churchills not knowing what to expect. It was an impulse buy and boy, am I glad the impulse stuck me. Great smoke from start to finish. Easy draw and flawless burn. I am ordering another box of these for sure. Thanks CI.
I bought a box of torpedoes in one of CI's deals and saved some $eriou$ ca$h! I put these in the humidor for a couple of weeks before I tried one. These are very smooth, on the mild side of medium, and very well constructed. They burn evenly with a fine, almost white ash. The earthy and black pepper flavors are there, they draw beautifully and I usually burn them down to the nub.
Very enjoyable cigar. Even burn, easy draw. Hints of pepper and leather fairly toothy. Construction is immaculate, smooth wrapper.

Relaxing at the Hudson Bay

Jason B

A few perks of working for Cigar’s International are, I get to work next to like minded people, talk to all sorts of customers from around the world, and try a different cigar every single day. Some of the best day’s are when something brand new comes in and we all give it a shot and compare between ourselves what we like or dislike about every cigar that comes through out doors.

Today the Gurkha Hudson Bay showed up on our shelves and everyone in the store is talking about it. Featuring a smooth and oily Mexican San Andres wrapper that just makes your mouth water. A binder from Ometepe, an island located in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, and a variety of Nicaraguan Cuban-Seed long fillers. A medium bodied smoke that is full of flavor from the initial light all the way down to the finger burning nub.

When I first lit the Robusto size of the Hudson Bay and took my initial draw I was surprised by the wonderful notes I was getting. A nice earthy taste paired with a hint of cocoa and a slight nuttiness on the palate. The retrohale introduced a subtle hint of black pepper and a slight spice. The construction is perfect. The even burn started forming a beautiful ash that held on for the first two inches of the cigar.

After the first two inches the flavor started portraying a smooth toasty note along with a build up of espresso and nice woody taste. The black pepper note on the retrohale starts getting stronger but still stays rather smooth. The spice is still apparent but that is what gives the cigar it’s complexity.

Once I started getting closer to the nub a mellow flavor of dark chocolate started teasing me. The woody note became more oaky with every puff and the sweet toasty flavor came back. The black pepper and spice is apparent on the retrohale throughout the entirety of the cigar. I smoked the Hudson Bay until my fingers started burning, I wanted nothing more than to light a second one up, so I did just that.

The Gurkha Hudson Bay currently is available in 4 sizes. A 5”x50 Robusto, 6”x50 Toro, 7”x50 Churchill, and a 6”x52 Torpedo. Ranging in prices from $49.99 - $69.99 per box. A complex and well balanced blend that will become one of your favorite daily smokes. Mellow enough for yard work, and flavorful enough for sitting out on the patio with your favorite bourbon or whisky.
