Gran Habano 'Very Limited' Maduro

George does it again!

Making cigars of the highest quality that are also very affordable has been George Rico’s MO ever since establishing Gran Habano in 2007. Boasting a slew of 90+ rated blends, including the likes of Gran Habano 3 Siglos and Gran Habano Corojo, it’s safe to say they have cemented their status as a formidable player in the biz. With their newest core line release, Rico and the Gran Habano team have delivered an extremely rare blend that utilizes very limited ‘VL’ tobaccos.

This offering boasts an oily, dark chocolate colored Habano Oscuro wrapper leaf encasing ultra-refined long-fillers from the lush soils of Nicaragua and Honduras. With bright blue, Spanish-cedar packaging and bands, Gran Habano ‘VL’ catches your eye from a distance and holds your attention until the very last puff. Bold notes of oak, leather, earth, and a sweet creaminess coat the palate. A long, lingering finish reveals ‘VL’ to be another reasonably priced homerun from George Rico and company, destined for a 90+ rating of its own.

Decent smoke. Needed to let
Decent smoke. Needed to let them sit in the humidor for about a month before tgey were ready. After aging for some time they have really developed their true flavor.

I was really looking forward to these. Unfortunately only a mediocre taste and a terrible burn. I have smoked 2 of the 5 not being able to finish one completely to my satisfaction. The 1st I got thru the 1st , 3rd and it stalled like I over heated it or something. The wrapper got super brittle and that was it. The second did the same and a torched it got thru about 2/3 done and I gave it up. I will let the others age awhile and try again in a couple months .

Great Smoke!!!
I got a 5 pack to try them out as I had seen them at my cigar club in the humidor and were running about $10 a piece.... Very good smoke, lots of flavor and great draw....

Dazed and Confused
I want to keep smokin this cigar but damn half way through every one of em the burn goes crazy! Love the pre light smell and look of this oily maduro and flavor is good but the burn is awful and I have to keep lighting it. I'm a big Gran Habano fan but this smoke is just aggravating. Oh dios mios!!!!

good flavor but uneven burn

Great with whiskey
Great cigar for the price. Oak and earthy, the creaminess over the palate is wonderful. My friend and I love to enjoy these with a nice bourbon or Irish whiskey. The box seals tight and put a humidifier stick in it and good to go.

Awesome everyday smoke

Tasted and smelled great. Yes it burned unevenly, and yes i had to relight it a couple Of times, but I accepted that it's part of its Charm. You won't get a better cigar for the price. I promise you that

Prior to this shipment I had only smoked a couple of these cigars. I think having them resting in my humidor and having time to slowly smoke a few over some days made the difference. This is the same Gran Habano that has knocked us out with the No. 5 Red, without a doubt one of the best deals in the marketplace. I will be ordering another box soon and they will be placed in my "special" humidor for special times.

wow! What a great stick!
I have enjoyed this smooth and wonderful cigar since I received them. A welcome addition to any humidor and any cigar smoker wanting their moneys worth from an evening of enjoyment

Loose Roll
The taste was ok but it was wrapped loose and I had to fight it to keep it lit.

I woold not recommend this cigar.
Taste wasn't bad but the hassle of smoking it overwhelmed any good taste. To say the burn was uneven would be a compliment to this cigar. One of the worst constructed cigars I have ever smoked. Got very hot near the end. I thought to maybe hold onto these to give to friends who only smoke occasionally, but I almost feel guilty in that regard. So, I'll offer the cigar with a warning.

Gran Habano's worst offering
This is the first stick from Gran Habano that I do not like. I have tried 10 of the 20 that I received. About 5 of the 10 have had serious burn issues ranging from tunneling to canoeing. Flavor has been horrible on all all 10. Very disappointing. I will stick to the other offerings from Gran Habano that I like and will never order this one again.

Almost unsmokable
Every single cigar in the box invariably burned a tunnel down the middle resulting in almost no smoke and a singed mouth. I gave half the box away and felt bad for the guy I gave them to. I mean this is something I'm addicted to but they were so bad I got rid of them

The worst construction I've ever experienced throughout the whole box. Truly horrible. I wouldn't give them away. Every sin imaginable is here. Harvested the wrappers on the last five.

Dreadful smoke!
The only thing good is that I only paid for five! Awful burn, uneven and hard to keep lit. The last one burned a one inch tunnel down the center without even burning the wrapper at all. Maybe I got s bad group, but it will be the last!

The Best Gift Ever (RUFF RUFF)
This was one of the best gifts ever....from our Granddog to his PoP Pop. Every month my husband cant wait to get his box. Then its off for a long walk with the granddog a sit on the deck, all while smoking his awesome cigars, and researching for the gentlemen's expert cigar conversation. This particular cigar came in his he had to order more. That's the benefit...So worth it. The selections are premium, not scavengers. Thanks so much! Storminfoxridge

A fine smoke!
Great taste! Excellent draw. I agree with the inconsistent burn. Seems like the wrapper is too moist or something. Had to burn toast the wrapper to prevent it from goin out. There were a few stems causing hot spots and slightly harsh tastes but overall this was a fun cigar to smoke and I enjoyed it! I'd recommend them but with words of advice.

T.C. The Villages, Florida
One of the worst purchases I ever made from CI. Taste was just ok...but they would not stay lit and burned very inconsistently. Frustrating to deal with. GH can and does better than this with other selections but this VL was definitely not their best effort

The VL- Very Lovely!
Great Cigar! Price point is doable for a great everyday smoke, or one to give to friends looking to try a cigar. Will buy these again and again!

Customer Testimonials
Great taste. However constant relighting and burn issues turned me off. Maybe I just got a bad one.
What a good cigar. I bought a ten pack of these and I'm very happy I did. Not on the fuller side, but a true medium. The best Gran Habano I've had. Thanks CI, and thank you Gran Habano.
George Rico's Gran Habano "VL" is a very nice addition to the line up of solid, affordable cigars he has become known for. I have enjoyed both the Corojo #5 & Vintage 2002 for years. I often see GR offerings online & in the catalogs. Always low priced, I wondered, "How good can they be?" But I had my answer all along. "VL" is another example. Well constructed, handsome even, VL is draped in a chocolate brown Habano Oscuro wrapper that is becoming one of my favorites....It brings earth & woody tones, along with an old time Cubanesque quality. In VL, it compliments the Honduran & Nicaraguan long fillers creating a medium bodied smoke with a creamy core of light spices. I really like the flavors of this vitola! I got a tenner for a low price of $2.45/cigar & couldn't be happier with the purchase. I intend to investigate a few more of GR's offerings like the GAR Red. Every stogie I light up by this guy performs like cigars costing twice as much.
As a big lover of the 2002 Vintage, I was really taken back by this cigar. Right out of the wrapper it had a beautiful cocoa smell and great construction. I had the Robusto (which I like best on the 2002 also) and this was not what I had expected. This is a full flavor, full impact cigar, mine had a great burn and it reminded me of the CAO Brazilia or the La Gloria Serie R. This cigar would be good to enjoy after a thick steak.
These are definitely on the full side in strength. Strong pepper and leather notes throughout the smoke. Mellows only slightly with humidor time. Great burn and construction. Compare to the La Bomba 601 Warhead in strength, I taste Ligero's in the mix. Flavors blend nicely. This is a great after meal smoke, a little powerful for a breakfast blend though. 4 of 5 stars!
I was very disappointed in this cigar, having ordered a box of the Gordo (60 ring) sized cigars. I was expecting the same consistency as in the XO Vintage 2002 and was sorely disappointed. The cigars I had really bad uneven burning issues and constant relighting to smoke it properly. I was hoping for much better and not worth the extra$$ on this new entry from Gran Habano.
Gran Habano VL is a great tasting cigar. A true Gordo that's meaty in size and big in flavor. Good for an everyday smoke. Nice presentation in the label and burns evenly for at least ninety minutes or more. It's a treat and a good price. I like it.
