A distance so close, yet so far away...
Sorry, I got a little sentimental there for a second. Ahem. By now you may already know that Flor de Gonzalez’s 90 Miles line refers to the geographical distance between Cuba and the United States. What you may not know, however, is that Roberto Alonso, the former director of sales and marketing, is said to have coined the name. Since he passed away last year, the company decided to create a cigar in his honor, and to fashion the band using his own personal sketches. With that, R.A. Nicaragua was born.
The cigar is being released exclusively in Mr. Alonso’s favorite size, a lancero. This commemorative handmade is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Habano wrapper and binder and a full-bodied, full-flavored character. The construction is impeccable, and it delivers a smooth and even draw from start to finish. Spicy notes mingle with hints of leather, wood, and sweetness, all situated around a tobacco core. As far as tributes go, this cigar is certainly a winner, and a limited production guarantees it won’t last long.
