Alec Bradley Raices Cubanas

Straight from the factory.

Common sense would tell you that if you want a purely well-made cigar that’s free from the confines of clever brand marketing and advertising, you should go straight to the source. Well, that’s just what’s happening here with Racias Cubanas, a blend named for the factory from which it came. Distributed by Alec Bradley, this cigar is unique in that it was created by the Endemaño family, veritable masters of blending. No hype, no over-inflated adjectives, just an honest-to-goodness blend that's delivered from the folks who know how it’s done.

Raices Cubanas starts with a medium-brown Honduran wrapper that’s glistening with oils. A careful blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran long-fillers lies just beneath, encased in a Nicaraguan binder. The taste is totally smooth and creamy, but is punctuated by little punches of pepper and even has a slight taste of butter toffee. Medium-bodied and gradually increasing in strength as it burns, this top-quality, triple-capped handmade delivers a nice bit of power while remaining delightfully balanced. It’s obvious that the makers of this fine cigar are expert-level blenders.

Raices Cubanas received a 92-rating, noting: "An earthy, peaty smoke full of black pepper and truffle notes.... interesting and distinct cigar."

OK, but Not Special
I bought a box of the Gordo 6X60 and was disappointed in the lack of flavor characteristics. Burned nicely, but the flavor was flat and one-dimensional with no signature characteristics. From AB I feel the American Sun Grown or Classic offer a better Cigar at a little less cash outlay. Gene C, Xiamen China

The bar is high when you have put out the best.
Wonderful smoke but I was expecting a little more, how ever I'll give it some time in the humidor to say how it warms up.

Not as smooth as I had hoped

Maybe I missed something
Ok I'll admit I only had one. Was part of the great sampler packs that CI offers. Well made cigar, however lacking in flavor. Not bad flavor, just not any. Maybe it was me, again only had one. but for price I would not try/hope that I missed something in that one sample. Love Alec Bradley cigars, just a little disappointed in this one.

Honduran Stogie
A clever little cigar from the masters of medium, Alec Bradley. Using a Honduras wrapper is one of their latest tricks & this vitola, named after the factory which it is produced in, has that & a Nicaraguan binder, as well as Honduran/Nicaraguan long fillers that amp up the power level to just past medium. Peppery, but not overbearing, Raices Cubanas has that wonderful characteristic of increasing in strength as the burn progresses. The flavors also ramp up revealing tastes of caramel, butterscotch & raisins. It has a bright, smooth profile that I find quite unusual. And tasty! I like it & was glad to get to try it by buying two boxes of American Sun Grown Coronas. As a bonus I received 24 excellent Alec Bradley sticks including 4 of these robustos. Well worth trying, I can see these gaining a regular spot in my rotation, expecially if I can continue to find them at a discount. 90/100

Another Stunner from AB
At some point I will get around to trying every cigar that Alec Bradley has to offer. Raices Cubanas came to me as an add-on freebie, with any box purchase. I repeated the offer by ordering two boxes of my favorite corona, the incomparable American Sun Grown, so I am swimming in add-on stogies, four which are Raices Cubanas robustos. Alec Bradley is the master of medium/medium-full vitolas. So many options, all of them meticulously crafted & tasty as any mediums out there. This stick is an eight buck representation of what a Nicaraguan/Honduran two country effort should be. Smooth as butter, loaded with medium bodied flavors like sweet cream, maple & an earthy/woodsy undercurrent. With only a week of resting since delivery, it still performs well. RC is graced with a light brown Honduran wrapper, that covers a delicious mix of Nic/Hon long fillers. This is one handsome cuss, from the firm body to the functional triple cap, it is unusually well constructed, even for AB. Worthy of 90+ rating consideration, my one reservation is the price. My investment came out to just over two clams & four bits, which make them a great value. I suggest you find a similar discount & you too will love the blend & give it high marks, as I do with a 90/100.

Customer Testimonials
Received in a sampler pk- aged 2 months in hummi. Cigar is certainly made well, end cut- perfection, entire smoke kept a razor edge completely. But I think for me that's about as good as it gets. The flavors were of earthy and woodsy thru the entire smoke. Not really much more but a very-very light hint of coca. Smoke output was no where near what I consider acceptable which is critical to me. Very marginal even after aging! I enjoy the aroma of the cigar smoke while in-between puffs. This cigar just doesn't do it. Just not a lot of excitement from this stick and for this price, there are tons of other options....
