The Top 3 Lighter Problems & How to Fix Them

A quality torch lighter can make lighting your cigars a breeze. But what should you do when your cigar lighter stops working? Don't sweat it, we've got you covered with the top 3 cigar lighter problems, and how you can fix those issues and get back to enjoying your smokes!

1. Dirty Burners

One of the most common issues with a cigar lighter is a dirty burner. One of the main causes of dirty burners is putting the flame too close to the cigar, particularly if it is being relit. Sometimes the ashes will fall into the burners, clogging up the microjets.

Solution: Blow out the burners with compressed air. Blowing out the burners should clear everything up and get your lighter back to good as new! CAUTION be sure to blow out your flame before using compressed air. Compressed air often contains butane, and you don't want to create a blow torch!

2. Fuel Management

A lighter should be regularly bled of its fuel and compressed air. We recommend performing this maintenance at least once per month. When refilling your lighter, compressed air is added along with butane. Over the time of using your lighter, that compressed air will build up, leaving no room for more butane.

Solution: Make sure you bleed your lighter and use high-quality butane to refill it.

3. Spark, But No Light

This can be one of the most frustrating issues with a lighter. You're all ready to enjoy a quality cigar, you've made an incredible cut, you go to light your cigar and... nothing. The flame will not ignite.

Solution: It depends on what is happening with your lighter. If your lighter does not spark at all, return it, and get a replacement. If the lighter sparks but will not light, check the lead wire. The wire may be arcing back to the lighter frame. If this is the case, push the lead wire toward the burner. This will create a closer connection and allow the spark to go from the lead wire to the burner.
