Got one of these in a sampler...put it in the humi and forgot about it for a month or so. When I rediscovered it, I was quite impressed! The draw was a bit tighter that I prefer, but the construction, flavor, and burn was very good. This is a very nice cigar and well worth a try....you won't be sorry.
my first Sol Cubana. What a pleasant surprise! Construction is firm; draw easy; medium flavor and wonderful aroma. AJ continues to please.
I got to meet AJ Fernandez at the CI's CigarFest. The man is a perfectionist. I can tell by the way he blends his tobaccos and follows the old traditions. Sol Cubano Cuban Cabinet is a pleasure to smoke, I have lit right now. The wrapper has a brownish/red hue with a silky feel. The wrap is flawless. There are not soft or firm spots. The ash reminds me of a ISOM cigar. This cigar is right down the middle of the road medium bodied, with notes of cedar and black cherry. The aftertaste is a bit peppery. The draw is perfect although it needs a touch up from burning uneven. I DO like this cigar and will reccomend it to my friends. AJ Fernandez is a Master, much like his teacher A. Robainia. Do not change the process and reap the rewards AJ!
Magnus 6x50 (Toro) with about 4 months in the humi. I've had several of these and they are consistent as a rule. Habano wrapper has that barnyard smell, the foot less so w/ tobacco & cedar. A sheen that makes it look like it's sprayed with clear coat. Not overly firm but no soft spots. Prelight draw always effortless with a slightly tannic tea-like flavor. The only drawback is the cloth garter around the foot. Very annoying. Taped on and sometimes hard to remove. There is an initial blast of pepper with spicy cedar thru nose. Pepper subsides within a few puffs and is replaced by toast and wood, though it does remain spicy thru the retrohale. Tons of smoke, seriously. Settles in with bread, wood, nuts and some coffee. Very smooth and balanced. Burn is perfect, smoke is cool. Cigar performs flawlessly. Finishes nicely with a hint of semi-sweet chocolate. Good cigar at this price point. Buy it, rest it, smoke it.
Found this in the Kitchen Sink sampler, which I've ordered several times. I went to the monthly Cigar Intl. magazine and noticed this brand wasn't on the pages except in a sampler. What a shame! Cigar smokers don't know what they're missing. Great draw, beautiful taste and plenty of aroma with each puff. I actually liked it better than the Diesel Unholy Cocktail that was in the sampler. I have a wide range of cigar tastes depending on the time of day and how I feel. Can't really described each nuiance like some but I finally got smart and looked it up on the website. I'm going to try the Dark version just based on the excellant experience I had with the Cuban Cabinet.
Also the Toro at 6" X 50rg. I echo much of what Florida BB stated in his well executed review. It's no secret I'm a big AJ fan. It's gotten to man crush size, but in my defense, he produces some of the best blends available. Core, San Lotano, Diesel, Ave Maria, Man O' War. I could go on & on. San Cubano Cabinet is another classic in medium strength, full flavor, flawless construction & an everyday price point. It's good. Creamy, smooth, cedar & spice goodness. I have noticed a small area of very dark tobacco near the center of the foot in many AJ Fernandez blends recently. Sol clearly has this characteristic. I suspect it is responsible for the slight peppery & black tobacco undertones that kick off soon after lighting. A nearly menthol twang. Very tasty. I can highly recommend this blend to medium strength fans & mildheads looking to kick it up a bit. SCCC delivers in spades! 92/100
Why buy house blends when this cigar is available to you? This is a nice medium strength cigar. I have purchased two sampler packs already and I haven't been disappointed.
So thankful about the samplers from C.I. A little tough on the draw. Wonderful taste and aftertaste. It has a nice even burn and a wrapper that does not self destruct during the smoke. The draw will stop me from ordering these outright, but I would not shy away from a sampler containing them.
