“Here! Here! I just got my Pirate's Gold today and I have to give a huge KUDOS to CI. Once again you have well surpassed my expectations by delivering a super sweet deal on a real GEM of a cigar in the Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes!! I have found that my taste favors Maduros and I had a few favorites already. Now I have a new one! I got the 40ct Corona Maduros and IMHO you have to try these. Nice, mellow, spicy with nutty undertones, easy draw with plenty of smoke and great for a french inhale. I just can't say enough about these vitolas! I agree whole-heartedly with the previous post in that these cigars are everybit as good as any ten dollar cigar. I would put these up against an Ashton Maduro or any other top of the line, high-priced mareva anytime. Hats off to Rolando Reyes... very smart man to put these away in the humidor they have aged exquisitely. I hope he has done the same with others because I will be sad when these run out. Great job CI for procuring these!!”
“I had these cigars (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes) before, they were great. Can't wait to buy them again. I like the madero leaf best. thanks mates.”
“A wonderful everyday cigar (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes). A gem for the price. I enjoy my Onyx and Acid Kuba Kuba, but this cigar is now in my rotation. Another CI triumph!”
“About 4 years ago, and right about this time, I bought 2 bundles of the Robustos....I am down to about 5 of these babies...they are so smooth that if you did not know it, you would swear you were smoking a RP Conneticutt or a Montecristo...They were great right off the truck and the 89 rating is easily now a 91. Great stick that just keeps getting better with patient aging!”
“Been on a quest for really good cheap cigars lately. Got turned onto Flor de Oliva ($2 each), El Mejor ($2), "Original" Cubans ($1) and Pirate's Gold. All have been equally different and bring their own value to the table. All are worth buying, believe me, my humidor is full. Bought a bundle of 20 of Pirate's Gold Rothchilds in the natural wrapper. I love em'!! As far as construction and smokability, they are OK by $5 cigar standards. But there cigars are $1 each!!!! And boy are they blended nice and full. They are in a league of their own in terms of value for the cigar. I got a five pack of corona maduros that I don't like nearly as much as Pirate's Rothchilds. Check Pirate's Gold out today!”
“I bought 4 bundles of the Pirates Gold, (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes) a year ago...They were great out of the box...I have smoke in the last week 3 after a year of aging...this plus the prior aging has produced such a smooth, even burning, taste without any bitterness that I have moved them into my top notch humidor end table (by the by, bought it here) so I can always flip one out to my friends...the aging has produced a taste comparable to Fonseca...enough said! You won't be disapointed!”
“I just got my Pirate's Gold in the other day that I bought at a one day special. Would you consider selling these at a one day special price every day because I need these, I really need these. By the way the Maduro should really be called a Colorado wrapper and I hope Rolando Sr. outlives me because I don't want to be around without these {Pirates Gold}. To the owner of CI thank you for turning me on to this masterpiece of a cigar.”
“I love them Pirates (Pirates Gold by Rolando Reyes). Even with only one hand and a hook, they still taste like treasure. Thanks Brando for suggesting them!”
“OMG! This is the best cigar ever (Pirate's Gold). It is the only one I will let my Hubby smoke in the house. Everyone who we have shared this cigar says it is a great smoke. When my husband first tried it, was told that you will want a roach clip to get every last bit of it. They were right.”
“Outstanding!! I received my cigars (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes) today, VERY FAST shipment overseas...I tried it and I'm very satisfied by the construction, smooth cedary and mild taste you named it, this is a highly recommended cigar for everyone to enjoy... Thanks”
“I stopped at my post office box the other day and to my surprise, my order from my good old pals at CI. I got on the bus to head home and opened my package and saw little pirates (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes) looking at me. I got home at lit one up and wow, could not believe that they were so smooth, mild, and creamy. The fellas at CI really out done them selves this time, when they searched the open seas and found the pirate’s. I have smoked Macanudo’s before and hats off too CI for finding the gold, Arrrrrrrrhhhh! ”
“These really grow on you (Pirate's Gold). Before you know it you are always reaching for one of these instead of those high price sticks in your humidor. Tightly packed with an even burn, the coronas smoke slow, smooth and cool for a small ring size. Just the thing for the daily lunch break, commute home, anytime. Bargain of the year.”
“Your ad is no hype, a fine cigar (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes) to sit and enjoy a nice long smoke. I love them. ”
“Ain't no Cohiba (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes) but neither is the price. Pretty fair cigar for little over a dollar. Can't go wrong even if you are a bit of a snob. Don't get too hot, burns pretty even, tastes fair. Draws easy, maybe a little too easy but I can't complain about that as I talk bad about cigars that draw to hard. Definately worth the money.”
“The perfect example of you cant tell a cigar buy the price. Offered and smoked my first "Pirates Gold". Mellow to medium body and strength. I tasted some sweet tobacco, cedar and as very slight pepper. The taste was consistent from the start to a clean finish. If your in mind for a mellow stick and enjoy the mentioned flavors, i would give them a try.”
“Well, I just laid one of these to rest and overall I would have to say it was a decent experience. Not great, but decent. I personally have a taste for fuller more complex cigars so, for me, this cigar wasn't as filling as one one would hope. However, with that said let me get to my review. After letting these cigars soak in my humidor for about a month I decided to give one a try. Upon initial inspection this cigar looked very pleasing, no major veins and overall construction seemed to be on par with the exception of the slightly loose roll. With the initial light the draw was smooth and easy and I was greeted with a creamy smoke with tobacco and nutty undertones. However, this remained the same through the entirety of the cigar. No complexity, a hint of mild spice coming into the second third and that was about it. Construction again seemed on par though, even burn, ash easily held for an inch and a half and the ember remained a sharp conical shape. Would I smoke one again? Sure. Do I intend on purchasing another bundle? Nope, not exactly my cup of tea. Would I recommend it? Yes, I recommend this cigar to new smokers who wouldn't enjoy the complexity of a fuller stick and smokers who enjoy milder cigars like Macanudos. The cigar I smoked was a #4 natural, perhaps the maduros have an added complexity to them.”
“Is a great cigar (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes). It is a dense slow burn medium body cigar. Has a great draw with nice thick clouds of smoke. I recomend leaving them in your humidor for a few weeks and they will make a fantastic smoke. Band is a little cheesey but overall worth the money.”
“just got my pirates gold and had to smoke one, it was great for the price a nice bite at first but then it mellowed out to a nice woody and nutty taste. the wraper lookes a little rough but it has a great burn easy draw and lots of smoke. another great deal from CI.”
“There's no mistaking this cigar (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes) for anything other than a Rolando Reyes product. Slightly mottled wrapper with a wonderful "nutmeg-y" scent. The smoke is well balanced and flavorful with hints of cinnamon, cocoa, and nuts. A pure, crisp cigar with a lingering finish. A great deal that's probably not going to last long enough. Savvy?”
“Arr Arr Billy ... this be a fine smoke (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes. Slow even burn, complex but never harsh right to the nub. Best smoked off Waldron Island after crossing the Straights of Georgia. Keep up the GREAT work CI”
“I take most cigar reviews with a grain of salt. What is one guy's huckelberry is another guy's dog rocket. I also can't elaborate on tastes like "anise, plumb, nutmeg"....all I know is i've smoked a ton of these things and they are one of my everyday favorite cigars. I smoke higher end cigars when time to enjoy them allows, and these are constructed as well (or better) than some $5 cigars i've had. They are not complex at all, but when i'm riding to work, or trying to get a fishing lure out of a tree, I could care less about complex. I can also afford to have them anytime I want a smooth, tasty smoke. Thanks CI, for an affordable everyday cigar.”
“If it's made by Rolando Reyes, Sr., it's good. Just an opinion, of course. Too bad the BIG ones aren't available except in the samplers, but the robusto is and they're really quite good. I'm partial to the maduro ones and keep a supply to hand. (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes)”
“I am a fan of Rolando Reyes' work. Special Aged Pyramids are my "special occasion," once in a while type cigars. Flor de Todo's are a great "everyday" cigar. I think Pirate's Gold falls somewhere in between. Unlike Reyes' other cigars, these are somewhat firm, not at all soft like some of his other cigars. Asthetically, they look better too...not rugged. Both the maduro and the colorado have unique flavors, somewhat nutty and extremely smooth with LOTS of grey smoke that just kind of "hangs" in the air. At $60 for 40, they are a great deal. But catching them on CI Special, $40 for 40 is a downright steal. Pick up some today.”
“I am looking for a maduro to fill some space in my new 150 ct. humidor. I smoke a few Puros Indios, some Rolys, Olivas, and about anything from Perdomo. A good roll, even burn, nice draw and some great flavor is all I ask from a cigar maker. I live in Tampa Bay where we have the great Ybor City cigar district with many shops that blend and hand roll right on the spot handing you some fresh wonderful smokes....I know a good cigar! The first bundle of Pirates Gold I smoked was long ago. Today, I found the ring band I save from cigars I would recommend to cigar friends. Well friends........booyah for Pirates Gold and the smoking pleasure it will reward you. I am going to buy some maduros and lay them to rest aging gracefully as I rotate these puro gems for my smoking enjoyment. An 88 rating it's the low price winner for a stick of this quality.”
“I was afraid these would be too harsh because of the priceSearch > Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes and the fact that they are advertised as full bodied. But, I forgot that RR isn't your ordinary blender. No, these are full bodied alright, but smooth, nice, and they get real creamy towards the last third. And don't be afraid that since they are bargain-priced that you'll have all sorts of quality control issues either... Just let em air out for a week or two and dig in. Maybe the best deal at ci.”
“So I confess that I went into this purchase a tad skeptical, but I have smoked other offerings from Rolando Reyes Sr and never been disappointed. Personally, I think they can definitely hang with Rolys. I wouldn't say better or worse because they are 2 different smokes. Of course these have the look of a Reyes offering, but the taste was very distinct. On first blush it was a little intense, but I definitely noticed a taste that had a little bit of a nutty flavor, and there really was a subtle hint of cocoa in them. I would say that these are a very middle of the road smoke, but with a cup of robust coffee, they are fantastic. As El Cheapo's go, these are top notch. I mean you won't mistake this for a Macanudo or La Gloria Cubana, but Senor Reyes definitely hooks it up. Easily worth the price- a no brainer in fact.”
“This is one of my favorites (Pirate's Gold)! Not because of the price, but because this cigar doesn't bite you, even when you are at the last inch! It is extremely smooth and good tasting. Get 40, because you will smoke every last one!”
“TG Belize Central America (Corozal Town) I was completely surprised with these Cigars. I am a Rocky Patel smoker most of the time. These cigars were great. Ash was tight and white and the burn was great. Construction was solid. The best stick for the price I have ever smoked and that covers 15 years. Gives me hope. In the early days I got burned on a couple of sales (cheap cigars) deals. Then I switched to CI and found they back their product. Since I have been with CI I have only had one bad batch. Thanks CI.”
“Smoked my first two sticks of the Pirates Gold today. Killer!! Distinct peppery taste throughout...a steady and even burn. But most of all, an easy DRAW. One of those cigars that would easily fool most as a ten buck cigar, came in my UPS delivery. A great day. Thanks CI...nice review and referral. ”
“Pirate's Gold is a very aromatic cigar. I was surprised by the perfumy aromas, reminded me of ACID cigars. However, this is not a flavored cigar. Lots of smoke, great draw, favorful and very pleasant aroma. My wife actually enjoyed sitting in the car with me while I burned one of these. Great value as well.”
“I have bought many "everyday" cigars for my desk humidor to share with the Marines that I work with. This is by far the best value in an everyday burn yet! Long leaf and well constructed. This cigar competes well with with cigars in the $5.00 to $6.00 price range from your local cigar shop and seem to remind more than just me of an AF 8-5-8.”
“I was a little skeptical about this cigar. The goofy looking Pirate really didn't help either. But when I realized Rolando Reyes Sr. created this cigar, I knew it had to be good. So I ordered a bundle of the #2 naturals. I let em sit in my humidor for about 2 weeks before I smoked one. I must say, this cigar is pretty darn good. Not the best from the Zen Master, but an excellent bargain for $1.25 a stick. Would easily sell for $3-4 a piece. It's got a good even burn, smooth draw, nice construction, decent ash, pleasant smell and tastes good. I'm not one of those guys who can tell you all the flavors a cigar has. I either like it or I don't like it. And I like me some Pirates Gold. The description says it is a full cigar but it's more of a medium cigar to me. If your a Reyes Sr. fan like me, this is a no brainer. But if you've never tried one of his cigars, trust me, he knows what he's doing and I highly recommend you try a Pirates Gold. Not near as good as his Cuba Aliados but it's way better than his Flor Del Todo, which I enjoy while doing yard work btw. Honestly, I doubt if there's a better stick on the market for only a buck.”
“I thought it was interesting that the BOTL compared the Pirate's Gold to the Gurkha Castle Hall, besides the similar coloring of the label, I had the same thought. Early ones I had OTT (off the truck) had a difficult draw, and despite my favoring of Rolando Reyes, Sr. products, I wasn't happy with them. Then last week I had a maduro robusto that had spent significant time in the humidor, and it could not have been better ... it has me looking for more ... the draw, burn and construction were close to perfect and the smoke had a nice flavor to it, I think the Maduro leaf giving it some more body and depth. I really enjoyed it and normally I go for bigger cigars especially in the ring gauge. Highly recommend them, based on the one I had this past week which had a good cedar nap before I smoked it. ”
“These have been a very pleasant surprise for me. Secured a bundle of the Maduro Robusto size, and was blown away by the taste, draw and construction for a cigar costing just a few cents over a buck each. Will continue buying these as long as they're available Recommend them to anyone looking for an ffordable daily smoke. I have finally found that "good, cheap, daily smoke" I have been searching for over the past few years.”
“I found Pirates Gold (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes) in 03 and fell in love with the complex flavors. I was overjoyed when CI Started offering them again. A well made smoke complex and clean a must try for any cigar enthusiast.”
“Great tobacco flavor dominates this cigar throughout. For me, the first half pulls in a subtle note of pear with an even more subtle note of cinnamon. The second half is creamy and stronger with intermittent notes of anise. Complements a Jamaican Stout (beer) very nicely. This is the best sub two-buck cigar in the galaxy! Spend an hour with it and taste how convincing it is.”
“My buddy and I have split several bundles of PG maduros over the last year plus in all 3 sizes. There is nothing wrong with this cigar at all. I've tried other "everyday/yardgar" cigars as candidates but I still keep coming back to this one. PGs are not complex but they are consistently and decently flavored. This cigar is hands down the best cigar for the price range.”
“Got one of these out of a sampler in a small torpedo size (I don't know what you would call it otherwise). First glance it seemed a little rough looking, the wrapper was a fairly veined leaf, not smooth. The construction felt light in hand an had a spongy feel. Lit it up and was pleased with the flavors. The construction in that one may have been the exception, but it was so loose that had I given it repeated hard draws, I am convinced 2/3rds of the stick would have been burning at once. The wrapper gave it a little uneven burn, but it mostly self-corrected. So, given the price, I would not hesitate to pick up these as knock-around sticks. You can't go wrong with CI.”
“Daarrr!!! I was REALLY skeptical when I got some of these(Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes).I smoked one, then two, then wow! These are actually pretty good! Burn was excellent, construction was very nice, flavor was pretty mild but had a nice cedar-like aroma through the nose. I will definately keep these in stock. Thanks CI!”
“A cigar should never be this hard to draw... Cigars are for after work, they should not be work themselves... Flavor wise, they are really good... They're just too much of a chore to smoke. I'm going back to the Sherpas. Was worth the try anyway...”
“By far, the best cigar (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes) for the money!! I've tried some cheaper cigars and even the over priced ones, but this is the cigar I always come back to. Halfway thru, the taste hits you like a HAMMER!! But the great thing is, its wonderful flavor lasts to the very end. This cigar is a must have for your humidor. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Mr. Reyes, I salute you!!!”
“Please don't buy this cigar (Pirate's Gold by Rolando Reyes)! I don't want CI to run out. Great smoke, even burn, mild-medium, and full of flavor. Last 1/3 gets a little full but still very smokable. So please don't buy (Pirate's Gold) so there is stock left for me.”
“I must start out saying I am a bit of a snob when it comes to my stogies,I rarely agree with the ratings that are given to cigars,I say to each their own.I love a very stout smoke,Sancho Panza,My Father, etc.I was out of my everyday smoke and was impressed with the reviews on (Pirates Gold) ,I like a good medium for everyday and as most have been burned more often than not,as usual I opened the pack to smoke one right away,,,,WOW,I have never been a fan of Rolando but this is nice.Never thought I would rate a bundle,but,93.”
“The facts are as follows: 1. Great value! Repeat; Great value! 2. Natural and Maduro are almost identical, you really can't tell the difference. 3. These are not full body cigars, they are mild to medium. 4. They deliver more than you would expect for the price in all areas. The name and band might be what will throw you off, (refer back to #1). 5. For short money, perhaps the best value in the CI catalog.”
“I got the no. 4 Maduro (a corona) and lit it up the day I got it. It is a very fine smoke. Now that they have sat in the humi for a few weeks, even better. The price is RIGHT on these beauties!”
“Just had my first Pirate's Gold. I was pleasantly surprised. This budget cigar had similar characteristics to the Gurkha Castle Hall. I thought the castle hall was a good bargain, but this stick is a tremendous value! ”
“I really enjoyed the Pirate's Gold. I purchased a bundle back when CI had them as a 2fer. I really enjoyed thier taste and how well they were made. I have difficulty describing different flavors and tastes. All I can tell you is that these are very enjoyable, so much that I ordered a bundle of "The Big Boys" the Semi 5.5x56. I am very confident that these will be as good or even better than the other sizes that I've smoked. I would highly reccomend these to anybody looking for a very good and inexpensive everyday cigar.”
“An amazing value at CI's crazy prices. The Pirate's Gold Natural has a nice, earthy flavor that is a perfect complement to the potato skins served at my favorite brewery. Let these sit in your humidor with a few premiums, they age quite well.”
“Bought 2 bundles on sale #4 coronas. Good smoke and after letting them lay for 3 or 4 months they are really good. Real good construction, nice draw and a good, I don`t know how to put it heavy flavor. It grows on you. The price wraps it up”
“Just had my first #4 natural today after a four day rest in the humidor. I have to say that cheesy label aside, I was pretty impressed, but perhaps I shouldn't be, since Reyes makes some of the best bargain smokes on the market. A solid medium bodied stick, with nice flavors of cedar and earth with a bit of spice, it opens up and smooths out and even gains an occasional touch of sweetness as it goes on. It seems to sit somewhere between the Cuba Aliados and the regular Puros Indios. Of course, it has the characteristic near-perfect burn that I have come to expect of all Rolando Reyes products. A nice nap in the humidor would surely help to round things out. At these prices, a bundle is a no-brainer, as soon as I can scrape all of my stray pennies together!”
“I like to smoke while watching the pirates of the caribean trilogy, hammered drunk off rum and coke. BUT seriously. great price. great cigar...gives me a tingle in my stomach”
“Very difficult draw, filler tastes pretty rought, Bitter. Hopefully will mellow is it sits around for a while. I want to like them. Time will hopefully tell.”
“Just got my order of the discounted Pirate's Gold Bigboys in maduro and they are great. The freshness was just right and the smoke has just become one of my favorites. I hope I can get another deal before they run out. I'm a loyal customer for life. Thanks guys for making even the common mans smoke an enjoyable one. You guys rock as the kids say.”
“I was very hesitant at first of buying these but what the hell for 30 dollars it wasn't going to break the bank. I'm very glad I did I will continue to come back for more of these great smokes!”
“What's not to love about these things. Having tried both the maduro and the natural, I am in love with the maduro. With a smooth flavor, perfect draw, and just over $1 a stick, you can't go wrong.”
“Insanely good deal for the price. These had a much more complex flavor than any other stick could hope to have in this price range. The more of them I had, the more impressed I became. These will without a doubt become my every day smoke.”
“Smoking one from the brown bag sampler. The maduro one, dont let the price fool you. Very smooth little creamy, nice after taste it leaves behind, I can't tell you I taste oak, pepper what not, Maybe my tounge isnt good enough, but I do know a good cigar when i have one, and this is one of them. Just as good IMO as some of the $5 sticks you can get. Think I found my everyday cigar(can we say autoship). Little uneven burn 2/3 the way down, but even out, but nice salt & pepper ash, got it to 1.5" before it fell of in my lap. Great cigar will buy MANY over and over again.”
“Have you guys heard about that new pirate movie? It's rated ARRRRRR! ..... buy this cigar! It's way better than that joke! A+”
“Really good smoke!”
“This is an inconsistent smoke to be sure, I've had four, two were downright pleasant, two were a tad rough. They're still better than convenience store smokes and for the price, you can't really complain. I ordered the smaller corojo I believe and it's a nice 30-45 minute smoke. If you're looking for a cheaper smoke to enjoy casually or to fill up the humidor and let them sit for a few months (trying this now to see if it improves the taste). Definetely a mild cigar, which is to my taste. Buy 'em up while they're cheap.”
“Good tasting cigars for a great price. Made these my everyday smoke. Cured them in the humi for a few weeks and good to go! lots of smoke with a mild-medium taste”
