The 1st review of the Pinar del Rio Small Batch Reserve Habano is here & the outlook is good. A true medium bodied smoke, that mellows as it burns, flavors of cedar, faint leather & cocoa abound. Perfect with coffee, the corojo fillers married to the reddish Habano Brazilian wrapper, had me inhaling every puff. Smooth & delicious, this cigar receives 3 1/2 vitolas. Only because the asking price is $6.70, which is over my strict $5.00 limit. Considering I got this in a freebie & invested a whopping $1.50, that rating jumps to 4 1/2 vitolas, out of a possible 5. The mild bodied lovers, may well find this a perfect upgrade in flavor & intensity, that their Connecticut & EMS wrappers lack.
I got two bundles of these on a special, and the great price I paid made them even more special. Typical of all the Pinar del Rios I have smoked, these have been nothing short of fantastic!! They are well constructed and have only had one cigar out of them all that I had to keep relighting. The robustos all lasted at least 45 minutes. The product description is exactly what I got. Waiting to see how the ones which are aging in the humidor will develop over time. Can't wait to try the other small batch smokes.
While I hate to part with more than five bucks a stick when I buy a box, this one is really worth it!
Great appearance / fine construction / good full flavor without being over the top / complex and changing throughout the smoke / yet not so demanding of one's attention where one can't enjoy one while doing something in addition to savoring it.
