I received one of the PDR Sungrown(Toro), about three months ago...wanted to smoke it right away but waited...did so today...honestly, if you stacked it up against the RP Sun Grown Toro, you would have an issue in deciding which is best! Excellent draw, no relight, beautiful aroma, no veins, three ashes and it took 2 hours...oh, had to feed the chickens...had to relight the last one fith of it using the prescribed procedure for relight that CI suggests...no bitterness...took off like a kite again! For about $25 less for a box of RP Sungrown, you cannot go wrong! By the by, I think this is pound for pound, the best Habano Sungrown Wrapper out there that PDR uses!
Just to put my money where my mouth stated...two references below und JH Mena Ar, I picked up a Joes Daily of 10 torpedos for $25.00...not 31.50 as usual...but I made it 4 bundles equaling 100 cigars for less than a box usually is....again, this is one of the best cigars I've run into in my 40 plus years of smoking all kinds of premium's, dummies, and higher priced cigars...watch for these and snatch them up when you can! It is one of the rare cigars that you can smoke right after you receive them shipped in bundle (through no fault of CI and humidity in shipping)...Anyone reading this....please send an email to CI...ask them to ship a humi pillow for one dollar more in your order...it will really help in transit I think...what do you think, CI? warmly, John Boy H.
The PDR sun grown is one of those "fly under the radar" tasty smokes. They make frequent appearances on Joe's Jambalaya for about 2 bucks a stick, and at that price are a great deal! Good construction, nice flavor, watch the Jam and get them at a great price.
A local BOTL & banter buddy traded me one of the PDR Sungrown torpedos .. first of all, I liked the way it looked, the colors in the label, the construction of the cigar, it's a beaut. I really didn't know what to expect, but the result is to make me take a closer look at the PDR line ... ended up getting a torpedo sampler with all 4 of the main PDR blends/wrappers ... I really liked them all ... so it depends on your taste buds/likes/dislikes and mood of the day as to which might be your favorite ... great cigars for the money. If I had to choose ... for its intensity, I like the Seleccion 2010 Reserva Limitada in the toro ... but I'm not always in the mood for that, (note: I did not experience the same strength in the torpedo from the sampler ... I don't know why but I found it pretty plain, maybe my taste buds were off or it needed more humidor time), the Oscuro, also was very good and probably next in intensity, but again sometimes one isn't looking for them ... I found the Sungrown to have that balance in a medium strength cigar with good flavor that kept my interest ... very pleasant to smoke (all have good burn/draw) ... I enjoyed it a lot ... Last night, I had the 4th of the line, the Clasico which is the Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and it had good flavor without being strong ... I was surprised, I really wasn't expecting much (I was following the Seleccion 2010 Reserva Limitada toro) ... it had more flavor than I expected ... and was very good ... So, in conclusion, I think it's worth trying every cigar blend in the line to find out which one you like, your palate my be different ... I liked them all, but could see that which one I would choose would depend on how I felt and the circumstances of the day and time. Very good cigars for the money.
Got a 10 pack of the torpedo's for 2 bucks a piece. Great flavor, beautiful wrapper, an unbelievable deal at $2 per cigar.
Will definitely try other Pinar del Rio cigars
Got a 10-pack on daily deal and discovered a top-quality new favorite-got the torpedoes. This is just a delicious cigar with some complexity, medium to full strength, perfect draw and a slow cool burn, aroma is heavenly. For me personally it was a 90-rated experience, will "try" to let the rest age awhile and check the progress.Well done Pinar del Rio on a rich, tradional type of cigar and thanks C.I.!
This is a very nice cigar, especially for the price. Very smooth and balanced with great flavors. A medium plus to me. Well worth a place in your rotations.
reminds me of a cohiba siglo III i had about six years ago. fantastic smoke! got the 20 torpedos for 40 bucks! I should've worn a ski mask when i ordered these...
Helluva good cigar! Smooth & clean from beginning to end. Burned evenly with nice ash. Nice creamy finish. A steal for the price.
This is one hell of a cigar. Burn line is a little wavy, but damn that flavor is top notch. Could smoke these all day every day.
WOW I cant believe these cigars have stayed under the radar for so long. The Sun grown pinar cigars are great premium cigars that could sell for $10 each! I have tried all of the Pinar del rio cigars and they are all very good well made cigars that burn perfectly. One day i think these cigars will sky rocket in popularity and price just like the opus x did. I would rate the sun grown a 92 and it reminds me of the rocky patel sun grown but it taste a little bit better and cost half the price. Buy these cigars now before more people find out about them and the price goes up.
This cigar was well constructed and smoked well down to the nub! The draw produced nice smoke production and flavor was consistant and pleasant! I enjoyed this cigar and look forward to trying other PDR variations! This cigar was medium in strength and body and will appeal to main stream cigar smokers. Nice cigar!
Just finished one of these cigars. I really liked the Oscuro and read that the Sun Grown Habano was supposed to have more body. I actually found that the SGH had less body. It also had too easy of a draw for my liking and the flavor just wan't there. An enjoyable cigar anyway, but I think I'll stick to Maduros.
Spicy well constructed cigar but rather one dimensional. Very front of the palate flavor. Didn't quell my craving in the least bit. I'm normally a maduro smoker and I like to try different cigars but I won't buy this one again.
This is a DAMM GOOD CIGAR! I'm usually a maduro man, but after smoking this Habano Sun Grown cigar I'll be keeping this in my humidor at all times. The only regret I have is I only bought one bundle.
The Liga Cubana #5 blend, in a torpedo shape, is a wonderfully medium to full bodied experience. PDR continues to impress with many of it's newer blends. The Sun Grown drapes a light brown Habano wrapper over a ligero blend of tobacco that scream earth & hardy tobacco flavors from pre-light right down to the nub. Tried two I got in a freebie last month & ordered up a ten pack of these soon after. Not as complex as many full bodied ligero cigars, still the HSG delivers clouds of thick white smoke & an even one hour burn. Flavors of anise & black tobacco persist throughout the burn, but are muted on the palate. Highly recommended & often available for under three bills a stogie, I give PDR HSG LC#5 a 4 1/2 out of 5 vitola rating. I am interested to try these in a smaller Corona size, where I believe they might be great little firecracker of a smoke!
Smoking one now as I write this review; great cigar, lots or flavor, and no bad after taste. Very good!
This cigar came in a PDR TORO sampler. Unlike other reviews, I wasn't that impressed with the stick. For me, it burned uneven requiring several retouches. For my taste, it was a bit too bold. For the price, I guess it's a great deal, but if you don't care for it, it becomes somewhat irrelevant.
Pinar del Rio Habano Sun Grown...First one was good, but one dimensional. Second one was bitter the last two inches....
The batch of 60 gauge I am burning through has a thin wrapper that cracks a lot and also lacks the nice flavor of the smaller size I tried in a sampler..I'm disappointed.
Wow, this could be my new favorite. Great flavor from start to finish. Steady burn, tight ash. Great smoke.
This is my favorite PDR so far. Still have a few to smoke from some samplers I have laying around, but this stick really speaks to my palate. I was so impressed I kept the ring wrapper. I smoke a lot of cigars and rarely if ever do this. This company and this blend is on my radar now!
This is my all time favorite smoke. It is well balanced, has lots of flavor, burns well and good to the nub. It is rare to see these beauties go on sale but if they do, don't hesitate!
YES, YES...truly a beaut of a cigar. This cigar can go against Rocky Sun Grown. PDR keeps their brand with the best prices. This Sun Grown is a worthwhile smoke. Smooth, even and a sweet finish. It is my Sunday afternoon "go to" smoke.
Quality and value in one of the best sun grown cigars. This cigar is on equal level to other sun grown cigars that are much more expensive!!
