My brother turned me on to one of these Morado's and I have to say I think it will become one of favorites in the humidor. The burn and draw are fantastic and so is the flavor. This cigar is every bit worth its high rating. I recently bought a box of the Black Pearls but I like these MUCH better. I'm kind of biased toward African Camaroon wrappers anyway. These cigars are offered at unbelievable prices and I'll be stocking up on more.
Recently got a box of the La Perla Habana Morado in Toro size after reading good things about Black Pearl. Having smoked a handful of these the verdict is: Great Cigar! Spicy with a decent burn, medium to full. And this is from one finicky long time cigar smoker. Price is not always an indication of quality.
Usually I take ratings like a 93 with a grain of salt. Maybe my tastes are just that different from everyone else's? The Perla Morado however, is deserving. I haven't had a box of cigars that has been this excellent throughout in a long time. As soon as you light up, this cigar is complex. You will hit everything from spicy, to chocolate, to earthy, and woody. I keep waiting for it to take me over the edge, but it gives you a flavor without overpowering you, then completely changes into something else. The burn is even, the draw is easy. I smoke EVERY SINGLE ONE down until my lips are burning. Bonus: look at the price and no wonder they are on back order.
Luv it luv it luv it. A great cigar at a great price. Well made, cedar, earth, and leather. One of my alltime favorites.
Excellent cigar. Great construction and burn. Rich espresso taste with light spice finish. Love it!
I've only written a few of these reviews, but I feel compelled to write one about this cigar. I've smoked cigars since the late 70's. Not that I'm any pro, but of all the stogies that I've smoked, this cigar is one of my favorites.Once you light one up, the aroma and flavor are outstanding. This flavor, aroma, and great taste last throughout the cigar. This type of cigar would sell for three times what CI wants, if bought at a brick and mortar store. The construction of this cigar is perfect, as is the burn. All I can say is, I love 'em, and they will have a permanent spot in my humidor. Well worth their 92 rating, if not higher!!!!!
Most try, will keep this one in my bedroom humidor, away from visitors. Very good flavor, smooth and cream taste to the end, nice ash and smoke, no much attention need to a evenfull burn. Glad to buy double portion on Joe's Jam at still price for 20 compare if bought a box but no doubt will buy a box at CI price any way. Couldn't help burn two within 4 hours with some mixed spirits.
WOW! This is a great smoke for the price! I got a Black Pearl in a sampler and thought it was good. Bought a box of the Morado and it was well worth it!!
I'm a big fan of Cameroon wrappers any way and this is a really good cigar. Spicy, some hints of cocoa, well made, good burn, and the flavor stays consistent till you burn your fingers. If you like the original Partagas but have a hard time smoking them everyday due to price....buy a box of these, you be very happy.
What a great cigar!full body, full flavor, nice big clouds of smoke! this has a very complex flavor that sits well with me as do all of the other flavors I have tried. This is a great everyday cigar with a cup of joe,and you just cant beat the price! It has a good ash,a even burn and a good draw.
I bought my first box of these while deployed to Afghanistan. I loved them. I then bought the sampler to try the other Black Pearl varities. All of them were good but none compare to the Morado. You will not find a better cigar at this price. $60 for a box of 20 is worth every penny. I have purchased several boxes of these now and always have a few in the humidor.
Having getting back into the cigar scene after a few years and trying a number of great sticks.....this one is fantastic. I keep these in my locked humidor away from over eager hands.. Great flavor,mellow...good even burn..Looks like I have found one that I will buy quite a few more of..
Got a box from CI today and I have to say simply I love this cigar. Got mine on a daily special so the price was awesome too. And these cigars arrived oily and perfect to smoke straight off the truck. Look out rocky p and the edge, this cigar may become my go to...for sure will be a fixture in my humi.
Just purchased a box of the Morado and all I can say is they are fantastic! A nice medium to full bodied smoke, that's soooooo smooth. Usually I wait a month or two to let any cigar sit in the humidor, but I couldn't wait. And I'm glad I didn't! They don't need it. Im on my third one in two days. Very happy with this purchase and I will be buying more in the future. Thanks for the great deal CI! Once again you guys came through.
Cameroon wrapper is not as tasty as some of the other La Perla offerings. But overall, a satisfactory smoke. Good construction but draw was a little tight. Good straight burn though, nice ash. The real treat was the Grand Pearl 5pk I got along side. Those of you who didn't spring the extra five bones missed out BIG TIME! But thats another story.
Morado is a great medium-bodied blend. Competes very well, flavor wise, against others in this category, like 5 Vegas Classic and Ave Maria. However, it falls short in construction. That delicate Cameroon wrapper can't help but crack or unravel at some point in the smoking experience. It takes a little patience to get through a box, but the flavor is worth the effort.
I bought a La Perla Habana sampler as part of a Daily Deal along with my regular order and didn't think anything about it. I was enjoying each separate one without much thought until I got to the Morado. Wow, I was not expecting such a great cigar. It blew me away. I then discovered its high rating and understand why. Now it's one of my favorites. Another plus is the price; I can smoke more of them for less. I just picked up a handful in the Bethlehem store this week.
....After seeing all the great reviews on the Morado, I decided to buy a five pack.... I had high hopes for this one and really looked forward to getting them. After letting them lay for a few days I cut one and got zero draw.... I know this happens sometimes, so I went for another and got the same result. I decided to let one sit on the counter for a day and....still no draw. Although I heard they have good flavor, construction could be an issue...
Found it to be medium-bodied, even though advertised as full-bodied and cubanesque. Smooth as silk, notes of rich black coffee, almost espresso, and some hints of caramel.
A new add to my list of must have in stock, a great, great smoke!
The Morado Robusto is my favorite Cameroon wrapped cigar. I have ordered boxes of the Rojo, Maduro, Morado, & one bundle of Oro, as well as two of the Cameroon Figurados in the past year. Many were either discounted or had freebies like a five pack sampler, keeping my overall cost at less than two bones per stick. Considering the quality & price, it's hard to beat the deals CI offers & as a result, I keep La Perla vitolas in my regular rotation. None are better than the Morado, which may be La Perla's most full bodied blend. It smells great & emits clouds of spice filled smoke. Notes of caramel, pepper & cedar delight the senses & coat the palate, while never becoming harsh or cloying. A recent inventory of my humidors revealed only one Morado Robusto & four Classic Maduros left, so I will be looking for a deal, in order to restock my inventory of these affordable, delicious cigars.
This is one of the best cigars I've ever smoked. Dollar for dollar I don't see a better value out there. Try some today!
I typically smoke a cigar or two throughout the week with co-workers and usually burn a few more over the weekend. Since I don’t go through too many, I don’t think twice about splurging for an hour or more of genuine smoking enjoyment. I don’t do “every day cigars”—either it’s good or it isn’t. The La Perla Habana Black Pearl Morado Belicosos are fantastic at any price.
I am passionate about cigars, and while I like to give them some time to sit in my humi, like any passion I get excited—I always light one as soon as I get a box. I did the same today when I came home to two boxes of these; I’m glad I did and can only look forward to how they mellow after some time in the box.
First off, although the CI description says “Cuban-esque,” I would disagree, I didn’t get the dry cocoa powder and slight “twang” from this cigar that you would normally associate with a cigar from south of Miami. That isn’t a bad thing. What this cigar excels at is bring the best qualities of its constituents into a glorious whole—the result of which is indeed greater than the sum of its parts. The slight sweetness of a true African Cameroon marries beautifully with a foundation of the savory nuances Nicaraguan tobacco has become famous for. It doesn’t need to be, “Cuban-esque,” it is something quite different, but just as good or better than anything coming from the forbidden island.
These cigars smell like a like a cedar wrapped, chocolate malt, and sea-salted Caramello—divine! They start off like an AF Hemingway with a little more oomph and develop into a full bodied, full flavored masterpiece--from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons to Gustav Holst’s Planets. From a blanc de noir Champagne to a rich, slightly tannic Bordeaux. It finishes with a roasted nuttiness and wood really coming out to carry the tune with the Cameroon’s sweetness as a back note.
I went beyond smoking it to a nub—I nearly roached it. This is what smoking cigars is all about. Highly recommended.
....At first seemed a little harsh, but after a few more puffs.....this cigar turned really nice. Glad I pulled the trigger on them!
If a cigar a day keeps the doctor away then this is my daily medicine. I personally taste unique hints and aroma of black cherry with a nice smooth sweetness on the end. A lovely experience that has deserved its accolades. These have a future with me. Life is good.
Hands down one of the BEST CIGARS I have ever smoked. Pure pleasure from the first draw. I can't keep myself faithful to one cigar when their are so many wonderful products on the market. Here we have history with no over pricing. Here we have tradition and no thousand label marketing. If I were to be stuck on an island? Hands down the Morado is my cigar of choice!
Love them, and many people do. They are on back order last three times I tried to order. Rojo Toro is right up there. Like them almost as much.
One of the best under $3.00 per cigar brands out there. Not sure who's really making it but I don't care because it's reliable and considerable every time.
This is a great cigar! In the past two years plus, I have smoked 10 boxes. ALL 200 of those cigars were perfect. Great draw, great burn, great smoke, no wrapper issues at all. Needless to say it is on auto-ship, and I buy them whenever there is any special. Keep a box in you humidor, if you can.
I got a box ten months ago and have one every month or so. Was a very good cigar off the truck, but every time I have one they seem to get better. The Cameroon wrapper is top notch, imparting that unique, semi-sweet taste you only get from a true Cameroon. Pair this with Nicaraguan fillers and you get a real winner. I have been a HUGE fan of Nicaraguan tobaccos since Oliva and Perdomo were just dipping their toes in the water. Well deserving of the 93 rating on it's own merits, but when you factor in value I would bump it up a couple more points. My 2nd box is now on it's way and these will always be in my humidor.
The Black Pearl Morados have quickly become a favorite. Great construction, even draw; smoke maturing in the air around you to a rich sweetness. The belicosos almost always burn evenly; very little maintenance involved. Overall a much better cigar than many that cost three times as much. Hint: CI’s periodic 20% off sales apply to these, making the price (even more) surprising considering the quality.
Taste like Jesus rolled them!!! I too was a skeptic than I pulled the trigger when a special offer came by and, Shhh! - Now I'd pay 3x the normal price. Complexity right from the start, once you think you've figured it out - BOOM - It changes again. These will always be in my humidor.
The La Perla Habana Black Pearl Morado in the 6x60 is such a smooth and tasty smoke! The draw is perfect. Cedar, leather and creamy coffee bean notes. The ash is white and solid, easily producing 2" before dropping. A real pleasurable experience.
What an unappealing pale wrapper with an odd greenish hue. Don't be fooled; this one tastes, draws, and burns like perfection.
I've learned in 44 years of smoking dem ceegars that price has NOTHING to do with how I'm gonna like a stick...and the La Perla Black Pearl Morado is one of the reasons why! I like the bigger sizes, got me a box of Toros, and smoked 'em all... enjoyed every one! I don't get picky with my smokes, all I care about is hey...when I open my humidor, do my eyes fall upon a particular stick...and these fit the bill! They are gone now, so I'll be ordering more in the near future!
If the La Perla Habana Morado were priced at $50/box I would smoke no other. Unfortunately I smoke 4-5 sticks per day, so I have to mix in some $2/ea sticks to prevent my wife from going on a rampage. There are very, very few offerings that can keep up with this multi-faceted stick: Diesel, Partagas, Fuente, and Padilla. Fortunately the LPH Morado sells for less, so it will always find a spot in my humidor. Smooth, well built, potent, and tasty...like a good woman!
I have been happy with previous purchases of this brand, however my most recent box arrived very dried out. The wrappers disintegrate. I keep them in a small humidor with a propylene-glycol based humidifier, and have not had a problem until now. This had been my go-to brand for a reasonably-priced regular smoke, but I am going to try some others going forward. Disappointed.
