“BAM. This is one powerhouse cigar (Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970). Very strong and flavorful, this is one of the best cigars I've ever had - bar none. Cigar Aficionado says it's one of the year's 50 best. Well, they're right.”

“I love a full flavored smoke and one day when I was feeling like trying something besides my La Gloria Cubana Series R #6 maduro...my local Cigar shop owner turned me on to the Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970. He told me to make certain that I eat before I smoke. He was right. For the size it was a real @ss kicker. Smooth, flavorful, and the type of smoke that lets you know that you had a smoke. I highly recommend this stick, unless you are the weak of heart...and stomach! Antano packs a punch!”

“I've become a fan of full-bodied cigars (i.e. La Flor Dominica Double Legera, La Gloria Series R and Comacho Corojo), but the Joyo De Nicaragua Antano 1970 is at the top of my list. The flavor is fantastic and the price is usually right! This is the type of cigar you'd be proud to share with a fellow aficianado who appreciates a strong, full-flavored stick. II cannot think of a cigar that I've enjoyed more then the Gran Consul, though I'm always looking. Cheers Andy”

“Man, this has got to be the heaviest smoke (Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970) I've ever had. If you're looking for full bodied, your search is over.”

“The above posts are right, the Antano packs a wallop! The bigger the ring size, the bigger your meal beforehand ought to be. The Gran Consul takes the prize! The Belicoso is also a big hitter and even the "little" consul is a heavyweight puncher! If by some chance you get interrupted and one of these goes out, be very very careful when you re-light it cause it is almost unsmokeable. And I smoke one everyday when CI has them in stock! I've smoked alot of strong cigars, but this guy is the best I've smoked when it comes to satisfying my 'muscle cigar' cravings! Great, great, cigar!”

“I think all true cigar smokers are looking for a cigar that is the hidden gem, one that compares to or out performs those high priced sticks. This is one (Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970). Note: When you light one up... Have a seat, these suckers are pretty strong.”

“I'm a true fan of the Joya de Nicaragua Gran Consul. This cigar is truly wonderful. It tastes great and leaves no harsh aftertaste. The only problem I have with this cigar is that sometimes the draw isn't so smooth. Overall, one of the best I've ever smoked.”

“Not for for the nicotine non-adapted (Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970). This thing is a stomach turner if you are not used to smoking full cigars or pack +/day on cigs. Probably one of strongest drop your stomach head spinners out there. If your 12 yr old son decides to sneak one of these from your stash, he will probably be sure to become smoking adverse. Might help with his insurance rates when he gets older but what good is money if he cant enjoy a good cigar?”

“Smoked the Robusto Grande. Beautiful looking cigar. Strong smell of raisins on the prelight. Easy draw with lots of smoke. Resting smoke was quite strong and pungent. Smooth yet definitely full bodied. No problem retrohaling. Given the strong raising smell, I was surprised there were not stronger fruit notes as with the JDN Celebracion.”

“This is one of my top picks for full flavored, well balanced, and very consistant cigars. Smooth and rich smoking experience. Potent...yes, but the well rounded flavor of the Nicaraguan leaf and Dr. Alejandro Maritinez Cuenca's attention to a well rolled cigar make this a winner all the way around! I keep plenty on hand because they are sooooooo worth it.”
JG of Congress, AZ
“What a fantastic cigar! I'm on the hunt for 5 great cigars... I've found one. Strong but not too strong, very flavorful and fantastic to look at. The Gran Consul burned slow and cool and will be on my smoke list for years to come.”
J of RBrewster, WA
“What a flavorful, intoxicating, yet deceitful beauty this Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 is. You will simply fall in love with her; right before she knocks you on your ass. You must try this one; but beware.”
BD of Red Lodge, MT
“Wow. Looking for a full bodied flavorful cigar. This is it. Great draw, even burn. Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 is just that, a jewel. Enjoy!”

“First off...dont let the reviews scare you too much...this cigar is definatly full bodied but it is NOT harsh (Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970). Full of flavor and has a wonderful complex taste too. the aftertase is almost like carmel. Do yourself a favor, get a big ring size, sit down and enjoy this one! a must try.”

“I did not find alot of bells and whistles with this cigar (Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970). What I did find was 100% pure nicaraguan goodness. You get a medium to full bodied cigar that is woodsy with just a hint of leather through the nose. It has an awesome draw with thick clouds of light grey smoke right off the bat. It is a wonderful after dinner smoke. I just came inside from smoking my first one. The ash held on for a full 2 inches before dropping off. Half way in it just gets better with more prominate wood and toast flavor that coats your palet without killing it. You can be sure that I will be ordering a full box ASAP. Thank you CI for your outstanding quality of cigars at prices that most anybody can afford.”

“I've had a few of these sitting in my humidor for some time and never tried one. One afternoon I was craving a quick smoke because I didn't have a lot of time. I spotted the little Joya Consul and assumed that would satisfy my 'need'. WOW!! This thing is POTENT!! One of the strongest I've ever had, but oh so tasty!! If you are not used to this kind of punch, as mentioned in another review, eat something first, have a seat, light up, and prepare to stay in your chair for a bit! (can't even imagine the power of the bigger ring sizes!)”

“I am a dyed in the wool fan of CT shade wrapped cigars, especially 5 Vegas Gold. But sometimes I crave something with a little "tooth" to it and Joya de Nicaragua Antano is the stick that beckons me. Power and flavor expertly matched makes this the perfect afternoon or evening cigar.”

“I smoked a 6 x 54 belicoso shape (Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970). It was strong but certainly not harsh. The draw was somewhat tight and the burn quite even. There's plenty of flavour. This cigar is, in my opinion, best smoked after a fairly heavy meal and smoked very slowly.”
MC of MLeesburg, VA
“I so much enjoy relaxing in my backyard with a glass of Merlot and a Joye de Nicaragua robusto. It's just one of life's little pleasures.”

“*** Just had a JdN 1970 Antano late this afternoon with a nice stout and brown ale ... I was preparing myself for a kick in the gut (from the known strength) ... yet it was so smooth, rich and had a touch of sweetness that made it even more palatable ... can't say how good it was ... funny thing is I can't remember if it had a tapered tip (belicoso) or round but it was very thick and short (Gran Consul or Robusto) ... it was gifted to me and had a decent period of time in the humi. Great cigar. (I've really enjoyed the Consul with a strong cup of *bucks coffee.)”

“After the buzz late summer last year about the Nicauguan's getting a bumper crop of leaf that didnt' taste like the blood of thousand Sandanista's... I was prompted to try both the Celebracion and the Antano... truly worthy of the praise and adulation. This a fragrant beauty, with punch -- I'd call it the velvet south paw. Nice. As you draw down on it, it switches up a bit to a smoothness not typically associated with Nic' tabacco. This was entered into my staple stash... a lovely smoke, truly. My rate this stick: 88”

“I started smoking the Joya de Nic Antano while deployed to Iraq for OIF. Of all the cigars smoked over there during the course of a year...and we smoked tons, from just about every country...the JdN Antano is still by far the best smoke! Very full bodied, loaded with flavor, smooth with a peppery kick. I cannot say enough about the flavor...it was the best thing we had over there! My humidors are NEVER without an ample supply.”

“I am one of those people who prefer a fuller bodied cigar. I have tried many different brands. I received 2 of them (Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970) in a 90 rated sampler pack. I liked them so much that they were my favorite cigar in that pack. I immediately went and bought more. This one certainly packs a punch and is the best tasting full body cigar i have had. It is the best tasting cigar on the market and is my new favorite.”
LR of INDIANAPOLIS, IN
“don't know why' but the one I sampled just wasn't as strong as the reviews have all warned of (Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970). Love it though! Keeps my tongue smackin' the top of my mouth trying to figure out all those flavors. I actually found it very smooth and far from strong. Great draw, burn and ash...excellent 45 min of my life. ”
CC of Camarillo, CA
“Just got back from work. I lit a Joya de Nicaragua Antano and opened a of bottle of ale. After a few minutes things were back to where they should be. I've smoked some great cigars but this cigar is, for me, what a cigar should be. If I ever order anything else please remind your great customer service staff to disregard the order and send me another box of Joya de Nicaragua Antano. Cheers! ”
DB of San Francisco, CA
“im bewildered at how many people say this is a strong cigar, yes it is full flavored, but this is one of the best balanced cigars ive had, robust coffee and earth , with black pepper on the tongue, smooth . dont be scared of this, camacho corojo and patel edge are much more powerful. but i have to admit i think these are more complex and absolutly delicious. will be smoking more of these.”

“The wrapper was red and smelled very sweet. This was nice suprise since this blend is full bodied. The cold draw was really tight, but still gave off the sweet sugary smell. The cigar bled a bit of the red color onto my lips and fingers. I didn't mind since the cigar was well constructed. The cigar was hard as a rock and had very little give. I don't know why but I really liked the way it felt in my hand. It felt like a Mac Truck between my fingers. The start was medium with some leather and spice. The cigar was tough to get going, but it boomed a ton of nice smoke. Until half way in I wasn't super impressed with the cigar. The cigar changed mid way through into some special. It moved into a complex floral and spicy mix which is something I have never experienced. This Joya was super slow burning and allowed me to enjoy every note. The spice increased all the way until the nub. The end was very leathery and pleasant. The smoke smelled like a dream. The cigar started to get a little hot towards the end but the cigar had smoked so long I didn't mind at all. I don't believe the cigar was full bodied or a muscle cigar, but it was super tasty and had be wanting more. I am glad I have 9 more and will smoke every last one to the nub.”

“One of the best cigars I've ever had. Better than a Cuban Hoyo de Monterey and as good as a Cuban Cohiba. Out of approximately 5 boxes of theses cigars, I've not had one bad one, very consistent in flavor and strength from stick to stick. If you like full bodied cigars with a oaky, leathery flavor and one that is very peppery, you must try these. But, be warned, they are addictive.”

“This cigar,( Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970) , is a delicious, sweet, full bodied stogie! It is going to replace my standard Gurkha Symphony as my cigar of choice.”
TD of fresno, CA
“I finally got to enjoy my first Joya 1970 today. This has to be the best cigar he has blended and produced. I allowed mine to sit and marinate for a bit, A very medium to full bodied smooth and flavorful cigar, with hints of spice leather and earthyness, just the right amount all around. Excellent clouds of smoke and very aromatic. This is a cigar that some to many seem to make out to be very strong but it really is not, if you allow it to sit in the proper condition, in a well maintained humidor. This is a cigar you want to be patient with and allow to sit for a while. One that is worth every dollar.”
KD of Broken Arrow, OK
“A great deceptive cigar all around, this stick will fill your stomach and give a nice buzz kick in the head if you're constantly pulling on it, and that's what you'll be tempted to do when you're getting a constant smooth foray of pepper, earth, and cinnamon swirling on the finish. Good value and solid contruction with no burn issues. For me it's not an everyday cigar, but full body enthusiast will be in for a treat. Tends to feel dry on the finish, I recommend some type of libation or even club soda to compensate.”
RA of Glendale, CA
“Absolutely none better. "Muscle Cigar" doesn't even come close to describing the great flavor and smoothness. It is no-nonsense yet not overpowering by any means. Just a completely delightful cigar in all sizes. Rocky and Gurkha can put together some incredible fancy schmancy blends and many are quite wonderful, but I always come back to old reliable Antano 1970.”
LF of Mesa, AZ
“I bought two boxes of these years ago. They age gracefully. These are one of the best top drawer cigars that has ever been formulated and made. You can take it to the bank with your fiat money.”
CS of Rock Springs, WY
“I had these years ago (about 20) and recently bought some. They are still the same today as then; AWESOME!!”
CS of Rock Springs, WY
“I recently had the machito, covered by brilliantly astounding bloom all over the cigar. I was blown away by the intensity, complexity and balance. While full-bodied to say the least, it was a mind-blowingly amazing experience that was overwhelming but in a thoroughly good way. Very similar to the first time I smoked a Liga Privada Unico Dirty Rat, but this cigar is easier to find and much cheaper.”
SN of Oakton, VA
“This stick is incredible,(Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970) and I will not say for the price. The price of this cigar is irrelevant. You need not try to find the flavors in this cigar , trust me they will find you. Eat up before you smoke up and drink a stiff one.”
BH of Salt Lake City, UT
“I had a 5-pack of the Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Gran Consul. I bought this cigar because I was looking for something with a lot of strength. Being a cigar novice, I was expecting to be floored by these. Oddly enough, I didn't find them to be as strong as everyone touted. Despite this mild disappointment, they are quite enjoyable. Beautifully constructed & very solid. Consistent slow & even burn. Despite the Consul's shorter length, it lasted anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours. It's quite a treat for anyone who enjoys a full-bodied cigar with luscious amounts of smoke.”

“This is not a cigar to smoke before bedtime. This is Cuban Coffee strong in the lady nicotene area. I remember my Dad smoking these. Did I mention it's not just potent but a rich and tasty smoke? This is my 2 pm cigar. Screw tea time, have one of these and skip the coffee. A wonderful cigar!”
JS of Arlington, TN
“I'm back to reconfirm. This is a full bodied, but incredibly smooth smoke, and from the many I've had, quite consistent. This offering puts many other full bodied smokes to shame. No bitter bite, but you sure know that you are smoking a full bodied delight! And gobs of smoke per puff. This remains a fave of mine. May have to now buy a box and stop the piecemeal purchases!”
MS of Bethlehem, PA
“I've been told that these will knock your socks off. Not seeing it or feeling it. They do produce a dense and flavorful smoke, like having a double strength coffee or a heavy hot chocolate drink. But the power sure seems to be in balance with the powerful taste. I come and go on cigar strength. Sometimes I like a lightweight toasty smoke (say a Cu Avana), other times? Let 'er rip! This one rips quite satisfyingly! Have had a few. Even burn, good, ample smoke, as in volume, but not as generous as some I've smoked. This is a go to when I want rich, hearty, and dense flavor. I always keep a few on hand.”

“This is a reincarnation of the original JdN that I began smoking at the cigar shop back in the late 70’s, before the Nicaragua rebellion interrupted things in the early 80’s. The tobacconist recommended these to me back then (as well as the original Honduran Punch and Hoyo de Monterey) as I began to want a more full bodied smoke. It is true what the other reviews have stated… if you enjoyed the originals, these are every bit as good. What’s even better, they make larger vitolas now than they did back then so if you enjoy a large ring, take advantage and smoke both the Gran Perfecto and Magnum 660. I smoked both and had no issue with the draw or the burn and the flavor was full bodied, but not as full bodied as I remembered. Or maybe it is that I have smoked so many great full bodied complex cigars being blended today that I personally enjoy more. All in all, this cigar provides a very pleasant smoking experience and these cigars will not disappoint if you enjoy a good traditional full bodied smoke.”
