I can't imagine anyone not smoking this cigar (Hoyo Excalibur). I keep experimenting and trying to find a better cigar, but to no avail. I realize everyone's taste is not the same, but logic tells me if this cigar is not one's favorite, it is because they have not tried it. Each time I light up one of these beauties, it is a celebration of what cigars are meant to be.
The (Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur) is a regal smoke! It has a cedar sweetness that balances the other appealing flavors that are present. It smokes very easily and burns perfectly; you never have to fuss with it. If Enrico Garzaroli's Graycliff 1666 is a sumptuous feast, the Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur is the perfect dessert!
The Hoyo Excalibur # 3 was exactly what I was looking for. Taste, construction, smoothness and fairly priced make this cigar my all time absolute favorite, Amen!
This is by far my favorite cigar (Hoyo Excalibur). It is a full 7 inch, 54 ring gauge beast, good for almost 18 holes of golf with smooth mellow flavors of chocolate, leather, and spice throughout. The burn is so amazingly smooth the ash can get to 2-2 1/2inches before the first flick is required. I have smoked many 90-94 rated cigars; I would rate this cigar among the best.
A classic tasting cigar (Hoyo Excalibur). It has big bellows of smoke and a wonderful taste and aroma. Well made and keeps well in the humidor. A must to add to any cigar collection.
I first picked up an (Hoyo Excalibur) in Abilene, Texas in 1983 and 26 years later I'm still buying and puffing.
Simply an excellent cigar. (Hoyo Excalibur) Medium in strength, excellent draw and firm ash. Absolutely even burn and wonderful flavour.
The No. 1 is, perhaps, the best golf cigar on the market. (Hoyo Excalibur) The ash will last about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. The aroma is great, also. For the price, you can't go wrong !!!
I picked up a 5-pack of the #2s (Hoyo Excaliber) to try them out. Just finished the fourth, as smooth, consistent, and tasty as the first. Draw is REALLY smooth, and the burn is perfectly consistent. This may just become my favorite!
I really like the Hoyo de Monterey Excalibur. It has some great flavor and a fair price, you can't beat it. First third is excellent great flavor, smooth and plenty of smoke. Second third just as good. Last third is good just draw slowly to keep it cool. I think you'll like these, I'm glad I purchased these and will do so in the future.
The Hoya Excalibur has been one of my favorites, almost always a sample is in my desk-top humidor. Just enjoyed one prior to the end of the year, early on New Years Eve, 2011. Paired with a Starbucks French Roast in the early afternoon on my screened in patio. Enjoyed the smooth draw, the firm construction, and the long ash as the smoke progressed. Around half way, the nuttiness factor became prevalent, with a coffee undertone. This is a medium cigar, not strong at all. I looked at the cigar, and said "Hey old friend, you never disappoint". No, my wife wasn't around to get jealous, but Tucker the dog looked at me kinda funny.... Smoked her down to the nub, another fine cigar experience.
Not a bad smoke, I found the Maduro just a bit flat with little oomfff.
Nothing like the OLD Excaliburs, Earthy Honduran binder & filler with a rich Conn wrapper.
Not bad for a change of pace smoke, not a REGULAR!
Great cigars are consistent every time. I have smoked Excaliburs for years, and the consistency never changes with a flavor never tiring: 100% FANTASTIC!!
I first tried the (Hoyo Excalibur) a few months ago. It is now my favorite cigar. The price is right and the flavor is excellent.
I just smoked the Hoyo Excalibur, in Baghdad, at one of Sadam's old palace, and it is a very mild cigar. It held a real good ash and was mild all the way to the end. One of my favorite milds to date.
After a dozen years away, I have rejoined the ranks of cigar lovers...never lost the love really, but with a career in health care...well, anyway, after retiring, I can now sit back and enjoy again. I recently tried the (Hoyo Excalibur) Prensado Oscuro...bought one of the 5-pack specials, then bought another one...I am now eagerly awaiting the box that should arrive tomorrow. What a great cigar for a maduro fan! Wonderful flavor, great draw, and a relatively fast burn given its size, that is just right if you don't have two or three hours to spend over a box-pressed, tighty. I own three humidors with something approaching 400 gars stashed back. The Excaliburs haven't and won't stay there long! Thanks CI for offering great 5-pack specials on premium gars, so we can taste before filling the larder! ...CC...
I have one humidor devoted to the Excalibur #1! That's how much I love these cigars. They are incredibly consistent, they're perfect every time, right out of the box, or 6 months in your humidor. Smooth, delicious, and flavorful. I can't decide if I like the EMS or Maduro variety better. Oh, well, I better go smoke one right now to decide!
You just can't go wrong with a Hoyo Excalibur. Always consistent in every way: Construction, draw, flavor... Beautiful cigar. Mild to medium strength, but a fan favorite from beginners to even the well experienced. Buy a box. You wont be disappointed.
The Excalibur deserves any high honor a cigar can receive. For 48 minutes I had pure smoking pleasure, even burn, great draw, and billows of smoke. This was a true work of art, as I watched each puff create a long grey ash. Simon Chase said in best in one of his articles I read sometime in the past; What is full to one person, may not be full to another. The smoke is so smooth from this cigar, that it is difficult for me to place it in any one category when it comes to mild, med, or full. What I can say; it is an outstanding cigar for all to enjoy, and worthy of any humidor.
This is a high class cigar at a decent price. The construction is great, which makes the cigar create huge puffs of smoke, and a smooth flavor that develops as you smoke. Not a mild cigar, nor a gull bodied one. It is somewhere in that perfect middle creating a fantastic smoking experience.
A little change of thought after smoking a few of these. Not bad, but finding I need more power than these can provide. Great for mild stogie smokers, just not me. I will give these away over the holidays as the family pours in (making our house look like a homeless shelter). Can you tell I enjoy the holidays? I believe I might try going to a medium smoke for a "every once in a while" switch from maduro's. Thanks anyways CI. You guys are still great in my book. Keep the prices low for the new year...
These arrived today. I was in the process of putting them in the ol humi, and decided to smoke one straight from the box. I usually try to get a good month or so of resting my sticks before I light one up. I am not disappointed at all. These are a fresh change from my normal maduro 5 Vegas every day smokes. These pack a ton of flavor all the way down to the nub. These are absolutely going to be in constant rotation from now on. I am ordering another box right away to try and age a little. I know this box I just got will not last long at all. Keep up the great prices CI!! I am a happy camper...
These are the most satisfying cigars I've ever smoked. Great milk coffee taste the whole way through. Not complex at all but just a delicious smoke. I could smoke these every day and never tire of them.
I received one of these in a sampler pack and waited for just the right time to light it up. Unfortunately the draw on it was horrendous. Even after stabbing it with a draw pick, it was still tough. The taste that I was able to get from what I consider a fine stogie, was very good light to medium and just the way I like my cigars. I guess I was just unlucky this time. I've had other Hoyos before and will surely buy them from time to time.
As an occasional cigar smoker and a die hard H Upmann Reserve fan, I'll have to say that Hoyo Excalibur will have a permanent place in the humidors next to the H Upmann. It is smooth with a citrus undertone. Great ash, draw and construction. Just orderered a box after trying one of the five pack that I received a week ago.
I normally smoke Maduro cigars only...I'm a fan of chewy wrappers with very spicy notes...I got this in a sampler and decided to relax in my dining room with a cup of coffee...I'm extremely impressed with this smoke...the construction could've used some improvement in my opinion, but I had humidor issues before it stabilized, so that plays a major factor and could strictly be my fault...flavor was superb...the most important thing is that this did not leave a disgusting after taste...all in all one of the best cigars I've had...I think I'll be ordering some more of these!
Very nice small cigar, nice taste, burn, and smoke. One of my favorites; just good tobacco flavor, satisfying, yum. buy em and enjoy em!
It was an OK cigar for the price, not my favorite, but wasn't bad....smoked very even and cool.
Nice draw and even burn. Tastes of dry white toast. I prefer a little more complexity, but enjoyable none the less.
The epicure didn't give off much flavor until about 1/2" was smoked. Once it did the flavors were great.
My 2 knocks on it were a really noticeable crease in the binder. This led to a wonkey burn. It was even the first 1/3 and then got really out of whack, but then would self correct itself and then it'd go crazy again. Always on this crease. I'm guessing this was a manufacturing defect when the cigar is pressed.
That said, this is a cigar I'll be giving another try sometime in the future.
What can I say that hasn't already been said about these?
I'm young in this game, and thanks to my old lady I was introduced to this uber consistent, delicious, evenly burning, mellow-yet intriguing piece of heaven. I've not yet gotten my own humidor, but that's happening
soon. And ya can be damn sure that the Hoyo de Excalibur will grace my humidor.
“The Hoya Excalibur is one of my top shelf displayed proudly in my desktop humi. A good mid-afternoon smoke on a cool fall/winter day. Paired this with a cup of black Mexican Lalaguinilla coffee I roasted. A smooth smoke, great every time. Quite honestly a humbling cigar to relax to. Stellar flavors of coffee and nut burst through after about half way. Solid burn and large clouds of smoke. Just try it and decide for yourself.
I've tried countless cigars. For some reason I keep coming back to the Excalibur #1. It's never let me down. Easy draw with a nice burn. This baby has always a had a very satisfying flavor. If you don't like it, then you don't like smoking cigars. No doubt it's always been one of my favorites. Can't believe they don't cost more. You truly get BANG for the BUCK.
ok, this is the third time I have tried to offer my reivew of the excalibur. I'll not waste my time to go into the length and detail I did before, I'll just say that if you have not tried them, you should.
Having enjoyed my first Excalibur just a few nights ago, it opened a new door to fine cigars. A nice basement smoke; the smoke output was not overwhelming. Delicious through the whole stick (Epicure). Only needed 2 touch ups on about an hour of smoking time, burnt it to the last inch! All in all, I'm happy I still have 2 in the humi. Thanks CI!
After reading the reviews I thought it would be a fabulous cigar. I was wrong. Maybe it was just the one cigar but it was so incredibly loose that it was nearly impossible to smoke. I had to fight to keep the thing lit. Burn was horribly uneven. That being said the flavor was nice.
Excellent stick with a great wrapper flavor and a smooth, consistent medium fullness right to the nub. Enjoy it with a port or a single malt. Take your time. Long ashes to you.
One of the most underrated cigars on this site! I like a mild to medium smoke and have never had a bad Romeo y Julieta or Macanudo, my old favorites. Well, move over because the Excalibur Epicure just became my #1 choice. Got it in a mega sampler 5 for 14 bucks? What a steal. Now on back order:( I am ordering a 20 count! They are that good.
Quite possibly one of the the most enjoyable mild-medium smokes out there! Tried it in a CI build your own sampler and never looked back! A staple in my humidor!
The perfect summary to an awesome ribeye steak, loaded bake potato, and the perfect salad; Martell Cognac V.S.O.P. and an Excalibur #1 natural, let it cool after lighting it. I promise you'll appreciate my recommendation.
A very, very excellent Honduran-made cigar which was always in my humi when they were available in the smaller #6, #7, or #8 sizes. Can't find those anymore, but I'd certainly spring for a box of coronas if they weren't chronically on backorder. But when I had 'em, I never smoked a bad one, and all were a solid medium body, full flavor.
My new favorite cigar! The HDM Excalibur Maduro is so densely packed it is almost like smoking a cigar and a half. Perfect construction, slow burn, and very consistent flavors throughout. The perfect medium bodied cigar + a really great price = a must have in my humidor.
The Excaliber is a 1st class piece of work. I had my first taste today, and I can say that I am definitely coming back for more. The slight peppery taste threw me off for a minute, but then I got acclimated to the smoothness behind it. This is truly a big boy cigar.
A bit on the pricey side, but these and Carlos Torano Silver Exodus are at the top of my list! Creamy billows of delicious smoke!
Great Cigar !!!
The Excalibur is one of my go-to smokes. Great taste, burn, draw...it always is stocked in my humi.
Terrific! A luxurious, mellow smoke with nary a flaw. Perfect burn all the way through - every single stick. The Churchill represents hours of relaxation and superior mild taste.
