This is simply a worthwhile cigar. End of conversation.
I love these San Lotano Maduros. I have been smoking cigars for around 14 years and this is in my top 5. Then again I am biased, I love almost everything AJ makes. They are cuban-esque, with loads of flavor. Try em out.
This is flat out my favorite cigar. Though I must add I have yet to try the "Oval". I've smoked many very expensive cigars, at three times the price, that can't hold a candle to this one.
I'm about half way through while writing this note, and as mentioned several times before I am a big time A.J. fan, so nothing new can be said except he's done it again. This blend hit me with some spice up front, but cooled down about an inch in. Afterwards, the perfectly meshed flavors take over and create a wonderful aroma that's really pleasant to enjoy. Yet another masterpiece by the living legend.
Great box pressed cigar. Dense smoke, even burn, lots of flavor.
WOW. I lit one of these right off the truck and was Very impressed. Deep rich flavor, smooth, clouds of smoke, even burn with not one relight. I will be ordering a box of these soon.
got a robusto 5" the other week, finally smoked it the other day...I'm generally a fan of most maduro's and this one is no exception to that...smooth smoke, ample smoke, great aromas, not the most complex or outstanding cigar I've ever had, but it is definitely a good cigar and one I'd smoke again.
I had the San Lotano Oval before I tried the Maduro... the Oval was so good I had to try the Maduro especially after I heard that the Maduro had all the same flavors but added creamy and unsweetened dark chocolate notes. I just finished the Maduro about an hour ago. This cigar is TASTY! First I'll start off by saying I think I got a "lemon" in my particular stick. The draw was smooth and easy but I got very little smoke most of the time and usually had to puff on it a few times to get a decent plume of smoke. The burn was very uneven and I had to keep up with it the entire time to keep it burning right. Now while I did have some burn issues, when I did get a good puff out of it the flavor was simply amazing. The foot was spicey as could be but after the first half inch it mellows out and sustains a nice peppery flavor throughout the rest of the stick. Throughout the smoke I got a nice creamy flavor, notes of dark chocolate and sweetness, earthy tones, and a taste of leather. This cigar had a nice complexity to it. As long as you don't have the burn issues I had, and I am pretty sure you won't, as the Oval I had didn't have one burn issue, this is a fantastic cigar. I'll be ordering a 5 pack of these in the near future so I can get the full affect without burn issues.
Pepper and spice, and everything nice, that's what this cigar is made of! I don't believe AJ can actually make a bad cigar. Medium-Full bodied fans should definitely give this heater a try.
Awesome cigar! Dry box the maduro for a few days before smoking and the wrapper will burn easier without having to constantly re-light.
Chances are that you have tried & thoroughly enjoyed several of AJ Fernandez myriad of offerings. Core & Nica Libre leap to my mind. Enter San Lotano, bearing the genius' name & featuring six delicious blends, three of which have garnered 93-96 ratings. San Lotano Maduro is box pressed & sports a chocolate brown San Andres wrapper. Meticulously constructed, SLM delivers volumes of smoke, along with a very even burn. Medium bodied, but quite flavorful, it has an earthy core with hints of expresso & caramel. It is hard for me to totally recommend San Lotano Maduro. Not because it is flawed. On the contrary, I give it a 90/100 rating & find it a satisfying vitola. It's the cost. I rate several Maduros, that cost much less, equal to or higher than San Lotano Maduro.
this was the first of the san lotano line I have tried. from start to finish this maduro is full of flavor and smooooth. never one harsh moment. it was such a pleasure to burn. this is a must try. i look forward ti trying the others i have resting in my humi.
San Lotano Maduro, masterpiece. This cigar burns even is solidly constructed and full of flavor. Easily one of my top cigars and worth the price of admission.
I often regret writing a review after trying a blend for the 1st time. At least, passing a rating judgement, is something that might be better served after having smoked several & over a period of time. So it is with San Lotano Maduro. The fact that a toro costs just South of 7 clams can color ones judgement & lead to a less favorable judgement. Now that I have had the opportunity to sample SLM 6 times, over the course of several months, I wish to resubmit my review. Thanks to CI & their wonderful "Kitchen Sink" mega-sampler, of which I have purchased over & over, each time a new sampler arrives, I can pull out the stored sticks & smoke them. The latest one had about 40 days of storage, The San Lotano Maduro is a handsome Gus, gently box pressed & sporting a deep, dark San Andres maduro wrapper that is veinless & supple. I love this particular wrapper, as it lends so many flavors to the overall tobaccos employed. None more skillfully than SLM, truly another top quality blend from the master of that craft, AJ Fernandez. Burn is straight & true. Medium bodied, complex & layered with hints of cocoa, expresso & oak, SLM remains cool as the burn progresses. Smooth as churned butter, the taste is addictive. In summary, everything about this cigar is top quality & I give it an enthusiastic 91/100. I must admit that number might even be 93 or 4, if the cost of a stick was not a good deal higher than my strict 5 buck limit.
Didn't find one bad thing with this cigar! What a enjoyable relaxing smoke and way better that other expensive cigars I've tried.
Excellent cigar...great taste and smooth flavor. Looking forward to my next one!
I've ben a fan of AJ for some time and the San Lotano Oval has been my favorite cigar since I found it about a year ago. I like maduros and decided to buy a box. I have a new favorite!! Great look and feel, perfect draw, not a single touch up on the burn, and cool to the nub. Started with a burst of chocolate with plenty of smoke, remained silky smooth throughout. The prominent flavors were noticeable; chocolate especially on the front end, light coffee, pepper, and a soft spice. Definitely a solid medium body all the way. You'll smoke this to the nub and hate to put it out.
You can't go wrong with this cigar. Truly one of the best. I am an AJ fan, and this one is very near the top of his entire menu.
