A monumental success.
Torano is known for churning out 90+ rated cigars, and it is no surprise that they have another treasure on their hands. The new Torano Colosseum opens with a dark and sleekly oiled Ecuadorian Habano wrapper surrounding a bevy of Nicaraguan and Dominican long-fillers. Medium to full-bodied and ultimately powerful, this handmade features notes of nuts, toasty tobacco, black pepper, coffee, and a caramel-like sweetness. Add in a super-discounted CI price, and these are a no-brainer.
“First time trying this cigar. It was a little tightly packed and hard to draw until it warmed up. The appearance is very nice. What surprised me was the aromatic odor of the smoke. It was a little sweet and very pleasant. Almost as nice as pipe smoke. I'm going to buy more. The taste had a hint of spice - almost like that cranberry Christmas candle your wife buys. Then it smoothed out with a hint of caramel. Good smoke for the money. Highly recommend.”TC of Indianapolis, IN
“What a great Smoke! perfect burn for a gordo, very smooth sweet notes of caramel, coffee and tobacco with a long soft finish. Absolutely delicious. definitely a new favorite! well done Torano”GT of Columbia, SC
“I got a couple of these in sampler and had low expectations because Toraños aren't listed among the CI Big List. So, the robusto I tried today had been resting in my humi a while. What a surprise! Lotsa sweet smoke, easy draw and all kinds of flavor from nuts and caramel to chocolate and pepper. Smooth, easy draw all the way. At less than 4 bucks a stick this a quality smoke anyone can enjoy.”CL of Cedar Hill, TX
“Okay, so I wasn't bright enough in my previous post to notice that these fine smokes ARE listed in the Big List under CARLOS Torano. Nonetheless, my opinion is unchanged and I am ordering more of these tasty bad boys right now while they are on sale.”CL of Cedar Hill, TX
“A friend and I both tried these (6x60) over the weekend and had similar experiences. We both agree this is by no means a medium-full. It's a medium, at best. The initial light gives a light spicy taste, mostly from the direct contact with the wrapper and not the smoke. The blend itself is rather bland up front and more of the flavor comes from the after tastes on the palate, mostly wood and some nutty notes. The first 2/3 of the stick were very one dimensional. After his cracked I chose to let mine rest until it went out then did a purge/relight. This provided the most flavor the cigar had at any point and revived some of the spice flavors which again subsided after a few draws. Overall, not a bad cigar if you enjoy medium bodied smokes. If you prefer stronger blends, avoid this one.”AM of Centennial, CO
“I just bought bundle of these, in the Gordo size. I am a big fan of Torano cigars. This cigar looks really nice, burns evenly, and the ash is perfect. This cigar has some faint pepper spicy taste to it in the beginning, that stays the same thru the whole smoke. It gives off wonderful volumes of smoke, but no flavor! How do you make a flavorless cigar? An empty cigar. How do they do that?”GG of Healdsburg, CA
“Delicious and sweet. This is a great cigar with hints of peppery and caramel. Bellows of thick smoke this cigar is chewy and made to perfection. I love it!”EW of Virginia Beach, VA
“The presentation of the labels is beautiful too.”EW of Virginia Beach, VA
“Nice looking cigar, but like one other reviewer, I did not get the tastes expected. Stayed one dimensional throughout the smoke. Can't really say what the taste is. I also disagree with the med-full designation. To me this is on the mild side of medium. I'm going to leave these in the humi for a few more months to see if they improve. If they stay the same, won't be buying in the future.”RA of MESA, AZ
“Must have gotten a bad batch. This cigar flakes ash like snow, has a tough draw, needs constant relighting and burns unevenly. Its tastes sharp and unpleasant and the aroma is forgettable. Quite disappointing!”AV of CULVER CITY, CA
“....It has now been in my humidor for a month and still no improvement. Impossible to keep lit, burns unevenly, and flakes ash like snow flakes. The only positive is that it has a pleasant aroma....”AV of CULVER CITY, CA
“This cigar deserves a third review. Every time I light one of these babies up it's like the first time, great experience. In my opinion it is one of the best cigars on the market. It is definitely the best cigar in the Torano lineup. From the construction to the last puff it is an excellent cigar. It ranks right up there with the Gurkhas and other high point cigars. It's a winner in my humidor. Hell! I can't enjoy the other cigars because I'm stuck on this Torano Colosseum. Wow! My bad! I already have three boxes. I done lost my mind. I might need to do some tabletop dancing for this one(just kiddin)!”EW of Virginia Beach, VA
“I am not a big Torano fan, but thought I would give these a try. The Good: Great looks...lots of bellowing smoke...decent draw The Bad: Ash was very flaky...could not keep it lit. Several relights required. I have only burned one, so will let the other rest in the humi for awhile and hope they improve.”JP of Indianapolis, IN
“Of the 20 ct bundle I received, most were an enjoyable smoke. Good flavor, even burn, etc. I'm not through all of them yet, but I've had 3 that the wrapper wouldn't burn and I'd be an inch or so into the filler farther than the wrapper. Could also be the binder. Makes for some frustration in the experience.”TH of Firestone, CO
““I bought the "Legal Limit 18-Cigar Sampler III" wanting to expand my pallet into the Full strength cigars and thought I'd write a review from a novice's point of view. I found the 'Colosseum' lightly spiced with a smooth robust flavor. It will be a regular in my humidor.”TN of Valrico, FL
“Great cigar from beginning to end. One of my new favorites. Just loaded up the humidor for the summer and of course added these..”BH of BEAR, DE
