Gene Arganese created First Draw Wrapper cigars by carefully folding the end of the wrapper around the foot. This 'covered' foot ensures that your first puff is loaded with nuances of the oily maduro, or silky Connecticut wrappers. And boy is the maduro oily, boasting a natural, almost shiny glow. Not to take away from the Connecticut mind you, which is equally impressive, thanks to a seamless appearance and silky texture. But whichever tickles your fancy, there's plenty waiting beyond. Dominican long-fillers then join the party, for a smooth, balanced and satisfying experience. Besides getting a chance to truly taste the wrapper at hand, FDW is worth your time on price alone. It's no doubt of the best bang-for-your-buck handmades around.
For the price these are some of the best smokes around. Nice burn and draw. Even flavor throughout. Good build quality. In a box of 40 I had only 1 or 2 canoe on me, which isn't bad for bargain smokes. Also, the sweet cigars have a hint of spice to them. Not overwhelming, but a little sweet and spicy aftertaste. Nothing along the lines of Drew Estate or Acid, but if you like those, these are a poor man's substitute. They come un-banded, which for me is a plus. Less waste and when I give them to friends I can tell them they are the "special" smokes. OK, most of my friends wouldn't know a good cigar from a great cigar anyway, but everyone I have given one to has enjoyed them. Great for golf, barbecues, yard work or just sipping a drink on the deck. Give them a try.
