With a reputation for crafting top-notch pipes, it seemed only natural that Savinelli would dip their toe into the world of premium handmade cigars. In 1994, Savinelli began to team up with some of the best manufacturers in the industry to deliver highly sought after, highly rated cigars. Case in point: the 92-rated Special Selection 2005 made by Oliva.
Dressed in a seamless Ecuador Habano wrapper, and chock full of vintage Cuban-seed Nicaraguan long-filllers, each 2005 is primed for slow-burning bliss. Cool, billowy smoke coats the palate as notes of leather, wood, caramel, coffee, spice and a distinct cherry-esque note all enter the fray. This complex bouquet is further complemented by a long lip-smacking finish. Medium to full in body, each 2005 is a treat that should be savored, slowly.
In addition to being named the 24th Cigar of the Year in 2008 by Cigar Aficionado, Special Selection 2005 Received a 92-point rating, noting, ""A torpedo with a deep brown wrapper. The first puffs are leathery and woody before some caramel and coffee flavors settle in. The long, spicy finish has a cherry note."
“I used to smoke the Savinelli cigars back in the mid 90s but got away from them when our local cigar store stopped carrying them. I saw them on here for a good price and decided to take a chance, hoping they were still a good smoke. I waited until a friend came over who used to smoke them with me back in the 90s. I cracked out one for me and one for him. He said "Wow, this is a blast from the past!" We both agreed, this smoke while a different blend was as good if not better than we remembered in the Savinelli cigars of old. Smooth burn and even draw. It held a long, white ash and was a great medium-full bodied smoke. Both of us immediately agreed another order of these smokes was in order. This has become a new cigar that must be in the humidor.”
