A reason to love handmade cigars.
Oliva Serie 'V' Melanio has arrived. The stunning follow-up to Oliva's 94-rated Serie 'V' and coveted, limited release Serie 'V' Maduro. I'll be perfectly honest with you. We had the chance to sample these lovelies fresh off the rolling table, and they were every bit as scrumptious as you could hope. My suggestion, get your Melanio cigars now before the backorders build.
Oliva Serie 'V' Melanio will have you at hello, thanks to gorgeous Ecuadorian-grown Sumatra leaf that's dark, thick, oily, and seamless in appearance. Beneath this leaf, a flavorful blend of long-leaf ligeros from Nicaragua unites, including the Oliva's oldest, most prized leaves from Condega and Esteli, along with some extra tobaccos from Jalapa for more flavor and aroma. Each Melanio is full-bodied and full-flavored, with unique nuances such as black pepper, freshly-baked bread, and unsweetened cocoa. You might also notice some toast and lightly creamed coffee. Either way, you're in for a delicious treat from one of the most celebrated cigar-making families in Nicaragua, let alone the industry.
Great news, the Serie 'V' Melanio received an impressive 92-point rating, which noted:
"A gorgeous, box-pressed perfecto with a superb wrapper. This cigar is complex and flavorful offering floral notes and hints of rich, malted nougat."
“I have to tell you, I try not to spend more than $10 a stick, but I treated myself to a Melanio and I will be buying more. All I can say is "WOW". This is a full body with incredible flavor. It starts off good, and just keeps getting better. Treat yourself to one. You deserve it.”GW of Deerfield Beach, FL
“One of the best Cigars I have smoked. Great cigar!”RL of Fort Lauderdale, FL
“I bought a box of Robustos and let them sit for 35 days and decided to smoke my first one on the 4th of July. Easily one of the best cigars I have smoked. The only thing I didn't like is that it didn't last longer. I decided to fix that problem and go with a box of churchills on my next purchase;) Great taste and huge amounts of smoke with a near perfect burn and draw. You can't go wrong here.”CH of HONEYVILLE, UT
“I bought a box of the Serie V Melanio petite coronas about two months ago and put them away to rest until tonight. I am very impressed with this cigar. This little guy packs a lot of flavor. I notice some leather and a bright wood component as well. Burns great...nice long finish on the palate. Excellent! I'll buy more. Goes great with Makers Mark.”BM of PERRYVILLE, MO
“This is one delicious smoke. Start to finish, great flavors right back to the nub. Needless to say, (but I'll say it) the construction and draw were perfect. A very enjoyable cigar.”VB of SAN FRANCISCO, CA
“What a magnificent cigar! I've had a box of robustos resting for about 6 months and just finished my first. All I can say is WOW! This cigar really reminded me of a Cuban Cohiba Robusto. It's got that subtle sweet, smooth, musky essence that I've only found in high dollar Cohibas with just a hint of spice. I've been smoking for 30 years and this is one of the best. I've got a couple boxes of Master blends 3 and this cigar blows them away. A great value.”RV of FREDERICKSBURG, VA
“Having smoked hundreds of brands, this one (Churchill) is still an attention-getter. I have tried and loved all things Oliva but this one beats them all. This is one of the few that I have to smoke on a fortified stomach and/or sitting down.”TS of NOVATO, CA
“I bought 5 last summer from a local shop. Smoked one right away, and although I enjoyed it very much, it was rather dry and under-whelming (this shop's humidor is always regulated at too low a humidity for my liking). Let the other 4 sit for the past 6 months at 72%. I pulled one out yesterday and all I have to say is WOW!. The cigar was simply amazing from start to finish. The texture, moisture content, burn and draw was perfect. The flavors were complex and deeply satisfying to my palate. I will be buying more very soon. These will always have a place in my humidor.”MC of Luling, LA
“This is my go to cigar for right now. Not as pricey as a Padron 1926 Anniversary, but the flavor is the closest copy I have ever found. They need to rest though. Every single Melanio I have smoked at the cigar shop has been a pleasant experience, but the flavors are muted. This is not a budget stick, but compared to Padron prices it certainly is a bargain.”SB of DUMFRIES, VA
“My first stick in the morning and my last at night. Always consistent from box to box.”DA of KEKAHA, HI
“I purchased a box of Oliva Serie V Melanio last Oct. They been sitting in my cabinet since then. Tonight I grabbed one and went down to a cigar lounge I frequent, I was more then impressed with this cigar. It was one of the best cigars I have ever smoked. Big thick creamy smoke with a very light coffee tone to it, with a very easy pepper just enough to give it some spice. Construction was A-PLUS. The burn was perfect right to the end. I have smoked some expensive cigars that don't even come close to what the Oliva Serie V Melanio has to offer. My suggestion is if you have the extra ching around pick up a box and put them in your humidor for afew months. You will not be disappointed. I give the Oliva Serie V Melanio a 95 rating.”KC of Terryville, CT
“fantastic smoke. not a cheap smoke, but one of the best values for a top shelf stick. if you like padron '64 then you really need to try this. killa stick.”MK of DALLAS, TX
“.... Absolute HEAVEN!!!!! I mean the padron was,,,,ok,, but for that price- GEEEE!, does anybody out there know what a top 5 star cigar is?, or do we just hand out 5 stars left and right?? This Oliva V is like my benchmark! As other have posted, the cigar is just amazing, creamy hints of EVERYTHING, sooooo smooth. Burn-excellent, smoke- you just don't want any of it to leave the room, aroma like nothing else- will just bring sweet tears to your eyes. But to put this into perspective; here are some of my 5 stars for comparison,,,,,,La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor (awesome!), Flor de las Antillas (it's like smoking velvet!), My Father No.1(only on sale) ,,, 4 stars (some)-Nica rustica (just nothing like it), Torano Exodus 1959 or Master, Perdomo 20th anniversary/ or the Champagne NIOR(incredible flavors, have got to try!!), Alec Bradley Presando,Alec Bradly Tempus, , just to name some for the point....”GN of Helena, MT
“very nice cigar(4.5x46) construction/burn/flawless/flavor very nice. Not close to padron 1926/t64. But there is now room in my humi for these ”TB of winona, MN
“Finally got a chance to try one of these yesterday. I'd say they are med-full, not quite full-bodied, but they are deceptively smooth, and I really enjoyed this cigar (torpedo). This shouldn't surprise me, as I like most of what the Oliva family makes. Based on my experience with the V maduro each year, going back to the 2008 original (also one of my top-ten all-time favs, and I still have a few), as well as the Master Blend 2 and regular V, G maddie, etc., and considering that experience and what I taste in these cigars, I expect they will also age very well. Pretty much fantastically, in fact. I just wish they were a little less expensive. I'd love to be able to stash a box away for 4-5 years, at which point they should go from really damned good to amazing. At the present time, I'd rate these a solid 94. With five years of properly-stored aging, I'd expect to see them pick up another point or two. While a bit expensive for me now (setting up a business is a good way to drain whatever money you've saved and incur plenty of debt), these cigars are excellent, and good enough to serve as a special occasion smoke, too....I honestly cannot recall the last time I had an Oliva cigar I didn't like, and even with that having been said, the Melanio stand out. Have some Melanio maddies on order, too...can't wait to try them.”TP of Freeland, WA
“I had a Petit Corona a couple hours ago. It's a really small cigar that's good for about a 35 minute or so smoke. Ash held on till it was half smoked. Perfectly even burn. Great earth flavors with a strong coffee note. About halfway through I began getting this slightly bitter chocolate flavor too. This is an excellent cigar. My personal preference does lean toward the traditional circular cigars but the box press shape didn't hurt this cigar. You can't go wrong with this cigar.”SS of Fargo, ND
“I absolutely love this smoke! These cigars get better and better every time I have one. Full bodied and smooth from start to finish. Even burn every time and have never had any construction problems. I will continue to reload over and over again on these babies.”AG of West Deptford, NJ
“From the moment you pick this stick up to the last draw on the nub left after you get done smoking it you will only be able to say, "WOW". I am a big fuente opus x fan and a don Carlos fan, but this cigar from Oliva rivals the best Opus. I have over 100 of them in my humidor and every single one I have smoked over the past year has had a perfect burn and a perfect draw. One of my friends tried one the other day and said to me, there is no way that is fill bodied. My reply was, yea it is definitely full bodied, they are just so damn smooth and creamy that you just don't realize it. This is truly a gift from the heavens. Well done Oliva. There is no reason why this should not be in the top 25 for 2014 this year. Truly a cigar lovers dream. This is what all cigars should be judged against!!!”JW of Manassas, VA
“(Churchill) Took the final inch and tamped it into a pipe with no re-light and the draw was still impeccable if that says anything. Creamy crushed-velvet like delivery of light cedar maintained from start to finish. Excellent construction, voluminous smoke and razor sharp burn. Lasted and hour and a half with a steady inch and a half ash. No real development of flavor other than intensity into the last third which I have no complaints about. Some classify that as a "one trick pony" others relish the "consistency" so it all boils down to what you are looking for. No criticism of the cigar here- would definitely say that if I were looking for a "full" bodied smoke I would have been searching for more as the last third reminded me of how a "full" cigar starts out if that makes sense. However, as a "Medium-Full" cigar this is right where you want to be. (Benchmark cigar: Arturo Fuente Sun Grown Double Chateau)”JH of BEAVERCREEK, OH
