Tall tales seem to pop up left and right nowadays. Some celebrity did this, or some politician did that. Don't get me wrong, I love a good story. But the kind of story I really appreciate is one that happens to be true, like the story behind Macorix cigars.
Jose Blanco (the fella behind brands like the 90-rated SWAG) discovered tobacco plants growing naturally in a the National Park of Los Haitises. 500 years ago, this was the area of a tribe called Macorix. Taken back by the quality and beauty of these uncultivated plants, Jose scooped up as many seeds as he could muster and set out to create the ultimate cigar. From these seeds, he harvested rare crops of Corojo, Piloto Cubano, and Criollo '98. After 2-3 years of aging, these filler leaves were combined with 3 delectable wrapper options. The end result yielded 3 legit, and highly unique blends. Normal box prices would set you back over a hundo. But you'll find each blend has been given a hefty haircut off MSRP, in true CI style.
